SBNation NFL Mock Draft: Round One Recap

Editor's Note: This post was written by Matt Miller.  In it, he breaks down all of the first-round picks made, looks at each team's grades and remaining needs, and after the jump leaves us with his Top 50 prospects still on the board.  Tomorrow, we will resume the SB Nation NFL Mock Draft with the beginning of the second round. End Note

Round one is in the bag, with 31 players filling the dreams of 30 general managers (Dallas gets a two-for). The draft may not have gone as planned for most, and there were many surprises. Here's a run down of the first 31 picks and a look at who is left on top of the board for round two.

No Avril in top 81

I've seen Cliff Avril going in the early second in a few places, he's usually gone by the Colts pick at #59 and I've never seen him make it far through the third. You don't think he's one of the top 81 players?
I really like him as a Robert Mathis type DE to spell Mathis and Freeney and provide depth/special teams. I'm curious as to why you have him lower than most places and if there are any guys in the #59 overall range you like better in the role I'm describing. I like Marcus Howard and Bruce Davis as 3rd round guys in that role,  New Era Scouting doesn't seem to high on them either.

Otah & Balmer

I was surprised to see these two drop out of the 1st round. I was surprised to see Green Bay take Baker over Otah.

Same

I have Otah ranked higher than Baker on my draft board, as well. Not that it proves anything, but I was still pretty surprised.

Agreed

And I'd add Devin Thomas to that list.
