With the 35th overall selection in the 2008 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have chosen to address their offensive line issues by adding Nebraska tackle Carl Nicks to the roster. Arrowhead Pride's Chris is here to explain why Nicks is the right choice for the Chiefs in the second round:
It is absolutely imperative in this draft that the Kansas City Chiefs address the problems on the offensive line. The team comes into the draft needing at least two starters coming out of it. The Chiefs only made two free agent signing this off season and none was an offensive lineman. The Chiefs' brass has banked on this lineman rich draft to fill the holes and that won't happen on the second day of the draft. In the second round, after choosing defense in the first, the Chiefs will more than likely select the best offensive lineman available, which in this case is Carl Nicks from Nebraska.
Nicks played both right and left tackle at Nebraska, which is an asset to a team that really has no idea who will be playing what positions next year on the offensive line. Nicks is also at the end of the list of above average linemen in this draft. The Chiefs have to make a move for an offensive tackle at this spot, whether it's Carl Nicks or not.
Matt Miller, host of this site as well as owner of New Era Scouting, provides his analysis below:
The Chiefs missed out on Jake Long in round one, but were able to fill a need on the defensive line. Adding Nicks here is a great pick-up, if he can stay out of trouble. It's never a good sign when a player is not allowed to work out at the school's Pro Day. Nicks has first-round talent, but a free agent attitude. Letting him go up against Jared Allen in practice should toughen him up, and hopefully prepare him to start as a rookie.

That's all she wrote for today. We'll kick things back off tomorrow morning with the #36 pick, being made by the New York Jets, who are now on the clock.

in the New Era scouting report about Nicks....
Is not very mobile. Will struggle against an outside speed rush. Handles a bull rush and inside move well.
Nebraska has gone through a coaching change with the firing of Bill Callahan and the hiring of LSU's former defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, what we're hearing about our offensive lineman is that the former strength coach focused solely on strength, and did little in the way of making the guys faster, so it may be that this is an area in which Nicks will improve with different coaching.
