A Debate - The Greater Secondary Poll PLEASE VOTE

The Mocking The Draft Mock Super Bowl stirred up some debate among Cowboys and Colts fans.  Who has the greater secondary?

Colts:

Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden, Bob Sanders, Antoine Bethea

Key Reserves:  Matt Giordano, Dante Hughes, Tim Jennings

Marlin and Kelvin can cover long enough for the Pass Rush to get to the QB.  Nobody wants to get tackled by Bob Sanders.  Bethea just played in the Pro Bowl.

Cowboys:

Terrance Newman, Adam Jones, Roy Williams, Ken Hamlin

Key Reserves: Mike Jenkins, Anthony Henry, Pat Watkins

Other than Newman, who starts?  PacMan hasn't played since 06 and is a better returner than corner.  Williams can tackle but lacks coverage skills.  Hamlin just played in the Pro Bowl but is not happy with the Franchise tag being placed on him.

lets see

DPOY Bob Sanders vs Pro Bowler Ken Hamlin
Pro Bowl alternate Antonie Bethea vs Pro Bowl reserve Terence Newman
#1 CB on the top scoring D Marlin Jackson vs hasn’t played in over 1 year PacMan Jones
Kelvin Hayden vs Roy “I admitted I don’t want the ball thrown near me” Williams

Newman vs Bethea is the only place Dallas has an advantage and Bethea is 6 years younger.

The homerism runs strong in you

Comparing Bethea to Newman is absolutely asinine. There’s no point. Granted, though, the same goes for Hamlin and Sanders.
But there is absolutely no way you can put Jackson on a level with Pacman Jones when he is on his game. I’ve said this before; the guy’s a top 15 cover corner with the playmaker skills who’s currently working out individually with Deion.
Let’s not mention that the Cowboys have more CB depth than anyone else in the league andjust hired back Campo to coach the secondary, where he’s gained great repute over the years.

I gave the advantage to Newman

and PacMan hasn’t played in over a year and if he was a top 15 cover corner the Colts WRs wouldn’t have torched the Titans in PacMan’s 2nd season. Marvin went off for 172 yards in one game, PacMan was the Titans best CB, that’s at the very least partly his fault.

and Harrison

doesn’t play the slot. To further enhance the fact that Pacman did in fact get burned, Stokley also had huge games against the Titans. That’s three WRs from the Colts who did well against Pacman in company. The only way he would not have gotten burned is if he wasn’t good enough to beat out Andre Woolfolk and get on the field.

Before last year

the Colts were the most boring and predictable team in the league when it came to offensive formations. It was Marvin out wide one way, Reggie the other, Stokley in the slot Edge/Addai in the backfield and Clark at TE, all the time. The Titans could have put PacMan on whoever they wanted easily and I’d think they’d put their top CB on the Colts top WR who was killing them.

Hamlin only got to the pro bowl because he played for Dallas.

As a Seahawk fan, I know that Hamlin consistantly allows the deep pass and is consistently fooled on play action. Roy Williams can’t cover either. They are both like extra linebacker and are good against the run, but neither can cover. The Patriots game I believe is a good example of them getting beat consistently even though the patriots did that to everyone.

Hamlin had like 6 picks last year

and did very well in coverage actually. Admittedly, he tends to bite on play action a bit too much, but he deservedly made the pro-bowl.

Deon Grant was more deserving.

granted im a homer, he didn’t give up the deep ball at all and still made three interceptions.

poor poor Roy

Any secondary that includes Roy shouldn’t be talked about as respectful. If Henry is moved to safety (as speculated) I might have to rethink but with #31 on the field, the Cowboys secondary has a significant weak spot that I don’t see compared to Indy’s.

It's a Tie!

Bob Sanders > Ken Hamlin
Antonie Bethea < Terence Newman
Marlin Jackson < PacMan Jones
Kelvin Hayden > Roy Williams

Notes: Sanders is the best safety in the game and perhaps the most valuable player on any defense… Bethea may be on his way to Newman’s level, but he’s not there yet and it’s not like Terrance should be expected to decline soon… by the time this hypothetical Super Bowl comes around, Pacman will have played at least 18 games at a level high enough to help his team reach the Super Bowl… Williams is a glorified/small LB, so even though I don’t know much about Hayden, I’d take him over Roy anyday.

The most likely place you'd remember Hayden is

returning the INT for a TD in the Colts SB win.
