A second round quarterback for the Colts?

I don’t see the reasoning. You don’t draft a second round QB to have him hold a clipboard.

Manning

Injured. 31 years old.

A bursa sac is not a small injury. Having a backup quarterback, and someone to groom, is a solid idea when a team has so few needs.

Manning is only missing time because he had surgery

on the knee. He could have gone into the season with it, but they didn’t want to take the chance it got worse and he would need the surgery in-season. He had the issue with the knee in college. I’m not at all worried about it.

It’s too early for a QB of the future Manning has talked about playing 16 or 18 seasons before retiring. The 2009 draft will be after his 11th season. Barring a new injury there won’t be a starting job available in Indy for years.

They have Jeff Saturday, Kelvin Hayden, Tyjuan Hagler and Ed Johnson on the last year or one year deals. Johnson will be exclusive rights again so that leaves 3 unrestricted FA starters plus 4 key backups (Dom Rhodes, Matt Giordano, Josh Thomas, Darrell Reed)
So they’ll have so needs more pressing than backup QB, besides Quinn Gray looked pretty good last night.

Pre-Season

So did Colt Brennan. The Colts talked about drafting a QB early this past year, so it’s not out of the question.

The Colts

talk about a lot of things such as drafting a WR/pass-rusher/QB with their first pick this past year. They draffted a Center/Guard who nobody expected.

The Bursa Sac issue is a non-issue. Shake is 100% correct in that Manning had the same surgery his senior year at Tennessee. If I remember correctly, he’s done pretty darn good since then.

The Colts will once again draft someone we won’t expect that will turn out to be a starter and Pro Bowl player in the next couple years.

Hold on

I’m not saying Manning is done or not any good, I ranked him as the #2 player in the entire league not that long ago.

One thing that I think the Colts should do is draft a quarterback to learn behind Manning. Can we all agree that Sorgi is not the answer should Manning go down (God forbid) long-term? Manning may play until he’s 40, but it’s rare for a QB to be able to play that long in today’s NFL. Having a back-up who is capable will only help them, and if Peyton continues to play this well, trade the back-up for a high draft choice. It’s a win/win for them.

Cowboys drafting a TE?

The Cowboys are going to draft a TE in the first round? I think not. They have Witten and spent a second round on Bennett this past draft. They aren’t going to use a first round pick on a tight end.

Coffman

They would use Coffman more like a WR than TE. He’s played mostly split out and on the line of scrimmage at Mizzou. He’s listed at TE, but is a hybrid type player.

Crabtree

is not a senior. He’ll be top 10 if he stays injury free.

Bears

Hey you commented on my mock draft (thx btw i agree completely with everything u said) and i can see the bears being the bears and not taking the all important QB in the first round. Great mock.

Cardinals draft

Is Cushing an ILB or OLB in a 3-4?

Is Lucky a speed or power back?

by cgolden on Aug 5, 2008 4:01 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Cushing

He would play OLB in the 3-4, probably opposite Dansby would be my guess.

Lucky is… both. Think Jonathan Stewart.

Vikings

With Berrian, Rice, and Allison, I don’t think the Vikings have a big need for a 1st round WR. I would think OT (Do they still trust McKinnie?), TE (Does anyone trust Shank-o?), or CB (Winfield was hurt for a few games last season and may not last too much longer) would be the top 3 positions for the 2009 season.

CB

Griffin and McCauley look pretty solid, with Charles Gordon an impressive nickel corner.

RE: CB

I agree that they all look soild, however, you can’t blame the 32nd ranked pass D solely on the pass rush. The personal isn’t all there when it comes to Viking’s CBs and while I know its the preseason, the Seahawks passed all over the Vikings on friday.
