Scouting report: Duke Robinson
Duke Robinson
6’5, 335 pounds | Offensive guard | Oklahoma
Strengths: Perfectly sized for a guard, Robinson has the power to engulf defenders one-on-one. Quickly gets into his stance to block in-line on running plays. Does a nice job keeping his feet moving and repositioning himself. An excellent and scary drive blocker. Incredible lower body strength. Typically plays with good leverage keeping a low pad level. Gets good knee bend.
Weaknesses: Effort seems to run hot and cold and doesn’t always give the best effort. A much better run blocker than a pass blocker. Reacts late to stunts and delay blitzes. Struggles with slippery pass rushers who can spin or dip around him. On the move, Robinson has a hard to locating and neutralizing opponents in the open field. Will have trouble on occasion on pulls and traps.
Final word: For any power running team, Robinson is about as good of a guard prospect as there has been in several years. His play is similar to that of Ben Grubbs. Where he struggles most is against quick, gap-shooting defensive tackles who like to get after the quarterback.
Round projection: 1

Dan, I run a Big 10 blog on SBN (rivalryesq.com), and I am doing a lot of pre draft coverage. I would like to work on some articles with you, so hopefully you will be amiable to working on some pieces. Thanks a lot.

Duke is a safe pick...
Meaning he’ll be in great demand. There’s nothing scouts like more than a nice, safe pick.

what happened there
everyone I heard when he was coming out was touting him as the safest pick in the draft and a surefire franchise LT.

Nah, just because a guy is highly touted...
doesn’t mean he’s safe.

In the mock I just tossed up, I actually failed to find a spot for Robinson, even though I project him as a first round pick. Go figure.
