3 Round Bears Mock Draft
Way early, but is it ever really too early? Going into Free Agency and the Combine I am sure I'll have the opportunity to do more of these that look nothing like this one. I also am only using estimations on when each player will go.
Round 1, Pick 18 - William Moore, S, Missouri
If you've read anything else that I've posted on this site, I just don't see Jerry Angelo and company taking a wide receiver in the first round, maybe not early in the draft. I don't like my offensive line options at this spot and I think the Bears either think they are set or may make a few small depth moves during free agency. The Bears brought in Rod Marinelli to work with the defensive line and the thought seems to be that he will work some kind of Windy City Voodoo and make them dominant, so they will probably run with what they have. Therefore I opted for safety. Mike Brown is not likely back with the team. Kevin Payne is a big hitter, but isn't great in coverge and is only a ok playmaker. Last year the Bears drafted Craig Steltz, but his impact so far has only shown up on special teams. The Bears will start Danieal Manning in Mike Brown's spot, but he is inconsistent. So the Bears bring in the best safety in the draft.
Round 2, Pick 49 - Herman Johnson, G, LSU
Any GM who is any good or has ever been any good will tell you you always take at least one guy on the offensive line and one on the defensive line. They are too important to not have capable backups at every spot. Johnson is a freak of nature. He is 6-7 and 386 lbs. By sheer virtue of his size he is going to a able to man handle a lot of defensive players and hard for others to just move him. All the knocks I've every read about the kid, doesn't bend his knees, doesn't use proper leverage and conditioning are coacheable. The skills are there he just needs work on this technique. The Bears have a lot of age on their line and they have been drafting replacements. They will continue that trend.
Round 3, Pick 84 - Nate Davis, QB, Ball State
This is more of a Bears Nation pick then my pick. A good portion of Bears fans are enamored with this kid. I think when all is said and done, he will go in the 2nd or higher. Some team will fall in love with him like Baltimore did with Joe Flacco, but for now he is projected 2nd or 3rd. Kyle Orton is the starter...period. The Bears will bring in somebody like Chris Simms or Byron Leftwich to compete or just backup. Caleb Hanie showed a lot in pre season this year, enough I would think to garner a roster spot, but if the Bears don't think he can be an eventual starter, they need to start looking. If Orton doesn't take the step forward they need this year, his contract is up after the season and they will need to look elsewhere.

Read the comments. Apparently Nate Davis has a learning disability. First I heard of it. I wonder if he could even learn a pro offense.
Please, please draft a big Defensive Tackle. Please?
