At just over the half way point of this year's college football season, I thought it would be a good time to do a quick update on the positional rankings.

Sometime later this week a new top 100 will be put out.

Among the highest risers were Iowa linebackers A.J. Edds and Pat Angerer. They've been the main players behind one of the nation's best defenses.

You'll also notice that Sam Bradford remains the top junior quarterback, even though he's out for the season. For me, there are still questions Jake Locker has to answer to achieve that spot. And, to me, Bradford is just as good or better than Jimmy Clausen in every area (cue the hatred!).

So those are some of the bigger changes. Take a look through the rest and offer plenty of feedback. More importantly, tell me who else I should have included.

They need a safety

But not Taylor Mays. At least not with a top 10 pick with the way Mays has played so far.

I still think Bradford goes fairly high, in my new mock I have him going #11.

Because I like them better? Both have superior tools. Locker and Snead have the ability to be Pro Bowlers. Ponder seems like more of a solid starter type of quarterback. But given that they’re only juniors, that could easily change.

I still just don’t see what is that great about Snead. He has an arm but has done awful this year

Watch his last two games.

Consistency is still an issue

Locker, I could see the argument. But Snead? How is he at this point a first rounder?

Who said anything about being first rounders?

I'd Rather

Have Ponder over Snead…

Thanks, forgot to take him out and put a couple players in.

I Agree

With all of the quarterback rankings except for Thaddeus Lewis isn’t in with the seniors. Kid can play…

Plenty.

McCoy has a lot more experience. He’s more accurate. Doesn’t have the durability concerns. Their arms are probably about equal strength.

The biggest thing with Pike, though, is that some question his mental aptitude. I guess a lot of people who watch Cincinnati practices come away less than impressed with how he runs an offense. It makes you wonder how well he’ll pick up an NFL playbook.

I’d go so far as to say there’s a big gap between McCoy and the next best senior quarterback.

I think McCoy is perhaps the single most overrated player right now personally

He’s not big, he doesn’t have a great arm, he doesn’t play in a pro system, his accuracy is not good downfield (watch the Red River Rivalry Game, I think his system massively exaggerates his accuracy), he doesn’t make any reads, he’s not going to be a big runner in the pros, the list goes on and on.

I’d say he’s fairly similiar to Colt Brennan as a prospect. At this point I wouldn’t take him in the top 2 rounds and I don’t know if I’d take him in rounds 3 or 4 either.

Take out the big part and add in my concerns and you’ve got Pike.

I think Pike throws the ball downfield a lot better

And has a quicker release, but I wouldn’t take Pike in the first round either. Maybe round 2, probably in round 3 or 4 though if my team needed a QB.

+1

McCoy’s arm is not that big. I’ve been told that he really is just now starting to recover from the flu he earlier this season, but I’d say mid-late 2nd round tops right now.

People point to his great completion percentage, but UT’s system is short throws close to the line of scrimmage. Lately teams have started trying to take that away, and it’s shown (ie Red River Shootout).

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

Pike is injured too, right?

I think Bradford may very well be the second coming of Chad Pennington

Bradford has a stronger arm than pennington

by TheRealSlimShady on Oct 28, 2009 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But still not all that strong in my opinion...

Is that supposed to be an insult or a compliment?

Pennington’s career is above average for a QB. He’s no Hall of Famer but when he plays he has been productive.
Unfortunately, he only has four ‘full’ years out of the eight he has been a starter.

I thinks its an analogy about shoulder injuries

I'm just curious to know what you guys think of Sam Shields, the reciever turned cornerback from the U.

You guys think he has potential at the next level?

He has started every game this year and while he’s had his ups and downs, his problems are all fixable with proper coaching and more expirience at his new position. His technique is terrible but that isn’t something you can’t fix. What you can’t change is size and speed! 6’1, 190 Ibs and a 4.2 forty time. Very athletic. Will probably take one or two years of developement, but he could turn out to be a major steal! Am I the only one that see’s this?
