My mockery of a mock VOL. 4
Please read.
I have alot of underclassmen included. Not all with enter the draft so some players I have going lower could go higher. I also take into account the team's pending free agents, once again i'm aware not all with sign with new teams. If I mention player X is going to be a free agent and you know that they have signed an extension then by all means let me know.
Feel free to criticize however remember you're stupid if you do!
1. Rams QB Jimmy Clausen Notre Dame***
The team needs to get that "franchise" QB. With the injury to Bradford as well as his great season so far Clausen will be in the discussion for the #1 pick. The only question is which one do the Rams like more Clausen or Locker?
2. Buccaneers S Eric Berry Tennessee***
What they really need is a DE but none are worthy of this high of pick (as of now), they could go Okung to help the OL but Berry is too talented to pass up.
3. Titans DT Ndamukong Suh Nebraska
I feel like a broken record. They miss Haynesworth alot! They could go QB here as well.
4. Browns QB Jake Locker Washington***
Anderson isn't the answer and I doubt they give Quinn another chance so they go QB.
5. Chiefs T Russell Okung Oklahoma St.
I was considering giving them Bryant again but with how deep the WR class COULD be (not all will declare) they address the OL first. With Okung they could move Albert inside.
6. Lions DT Gerald McCoy Oklahoma***
With Okung off the board it has to be McCoy.
7. Raiders DE Carlos Dunlap Florida***
We're talking about Al Davis here the only one that has a clue is.... well no one there has a clue.
8. Redskins T Bryan Bulaga Iowa***
My guess is Zorn is going to be fired so a new coach might want a QB here. With Samuels injury that line is pretty weak what good is drafting Bradford if he has no line to keep him standing?
9. 49ers (CAR) CB Joe Haden Florida***
They could go a number of ways here. I gave them Haden to team with Clements.
10. Dolphins NT Terrance Cody Alabama
In my opinion Cody does not need to be taken this high but Parcells 98% of the time goes defense in round 1.
11. Seahawks QB Sam Bradford Oklahoma***
If Bulaga falls here I think he could be the pick. Without Bradfords injury he could have gone #1, Seattle just got a steal.
12. Bills LB Travis Lewis Oklahoma***
Could go OL, DT, WR, QB , hell they need alot and that's an understatement. I could see Lewis rising up draft boards if he declares.
13. Jaguars S Taylor Mays USC
I'm aware of the Tebow talk but to me it's not a sound football decision.
14. Broncos (CHI) LB Rolando McClain Alabama***
As a Bears fan I rather have this pick than Jay Cutler, but hey what can you do? Broncos don't have many needs so I gave them McClain who already plays in a 34 D.
15. 49ers T Trent Williams Oklahoma
They might go QB here but I think Williams is the guy.
16. Chargers WR Dez Bryant Oklahoma St.***
Damn near every WR on their roster is a FA at the end of the year. Question is does he fall this far?
17. Ravens WR Damian Williams USC***
Same as the Chargers.
18. Texans LB Brandon Spikes Florida
Dunta Robinson AND Demeco Ryans are free agents which one gets the money?
19. Falcons DE Derrick Morgan Georgia Tech***
I was tempted to give them Jahvid Best with Norwood and Snelling being FA's. They played Anderson inside Morgan would fit nicely outside.
20. Cowboys DE Arthur Jones Syracuse
Could go OL or WR but Jones is the guy.
21. Eagles LB Sergio Kindle Texas
I was thinking Weatherspoon here but with how the Eagles like to blitz Kindle might be the better fit.
22. Jets WR Arrelious Benn Illinois***
Edwards is a FA and drops passes. Benn will be Sanchize go to guy.
23. Packers T Charles Brown USC
If Kindle falls here I think they could take him, but with him gone they go OL.
24. Steelers S Morgan Burnett Georgia Tech***
Team him up with Troy.
25. Cardinals LB Von Miller Texas A&M***
Gives them a nice rush LB.
26. Bengals DT Marvin Austin North Carolina***
Marvin Austin could be a high riser when it comes workout/combine time.
27. Giants C Kris O'Dowd USC***
Do they need anything? Depth I suppose.
28. Patriots LB Eric Norwood South Carolina
They need to add some depth to the D.
29. Vikings QB Ryan Mallett Arkansas***
If he declares he could be the heir apparent to Favre.
30. Seahawks(DEN) T Bruce Campbell Maryland***
Since they went QB with #11 they need to go OL to keep him healthy.
31. Colts LB Greg Jones Michigan St.***
Jones doesn't have the greatest size but he can play. Has played MLB in college but most likely OLB in NFL.
32. Saints RB Jonathan Dwyer Georgia Tech***
They flirted with the idea of trading up last year for Beanie Wells. They get their power back this year.
33. Buccaneers DE Everson Griffen USC***
They need a pass rusher and if he is available they snag him up quickly.
34. Rams LB Sean Weatherspoon Missouri
Could be a steal.
35. Patriots (TEN) G Mike Pouncey Florida***
Madkins and Neal are FAs.
36. Chiefs WR Brandon LaFell LSU
Todd Haley wants toys.
37. Browns RB Jahvid Best California***
They got lightning who's going to be thunder?
38. Lions G Mike Johnson Alabama
They have some pending free agents at the guard position.
39. Redskins QB Colt McCoy Texas
If they don't go QB in round 1 they will here.
40. Raiders LB Michael Morgan USC***
They have three OLBs that are free agents but with Al who knows.
41. Dolphins WR Golden Tate Notre Dame***
With Tate they could move Ginn to the slot.
42. Seahawks DT Brian Price UCLA***
He could go higher. He would be a nice addition to the DLine.
43. Panthers QB Jevan Snead Ole Miss***
Delhome= Garbage, Backups= Free Agents. I don't think you want Snead starting right away so Delhomme might stick around.
44. Bills TE Jermaine Gresham Oklahoma
Gives them a TE threat that they haven't had since..... hell I don't remember.
45. Buccaneers (CHI) T Selvish Capers West Virginia
They need the Line help.
46. 49ers WR Dezmon Briscoe Kansas***
Another weapon for whoever is QBing.
47. Chargers T Anthony Davis Rutgers***
Could go higher but they have FAs on the line as well.
48. Ravens CB Ras-I Dowling Virginia***
I think they could use another corner. He could play some safety as well.
49. Patriots (JAX) C Maurkice Pouncey Florida***
They got the Pouncey twins.
50. Texans S Major Wright Florida***
They could go corner here and with Walter being a FA they could WR as well. Wright is too talented to fall any further.
51. Cowboys T Ciron Black LSU
Flozell loves tripping the only thing is thats a penalty.
52. Chiefs (ATL) CB Patrick Robinson Florida St.
1st round talent falls to the Chiefs.
53. Eagles DE Brandon Graham Michigan
Could go higher depending on who comes out.
54. Jets DE Cory Wooton Northwestern
If he bulks up a little he can play DE.
55. Packers LB Jerry Hughes TCU
They didn't get a pass rusher in round 1 so they will now.
56. Steelers CB Donovan Warren Michigan***
Replacement for Deshea Townsend.
57. Cardinals T Nate Solder Colorado***
Help keep old man Warner alive.
58. Bengals S Chad Jones LSU***
Don't know if he falls this far or if he even comes out but the Bengals could use him.
59. Giants S Deunta Williams North Carolina***
Safety depth.
60. Patriots DE Vince Oghobaase Duke
After helping the OL they go back to D.
61. Vikings DT Lawrence Marsh Florida***
Replacement for Pat Williams.
62. Broncos RB CJ Spiller Clemson
New England could never have enough RB's and I think Denver could be the same way.
63. Colts T Gabe Carimini Wisconsin***
Could go higher.
64. Saints DE Greg Hardy Ole Miss
Could go much much higher or could really fall.
65. Rams S Reshad Jones Georgia***
Could go higher depending on who comes out. The safety class could potentially be great.
66. Buccaneers WR Demaryius Thomas Georgia Tech***
Bryant is a free agent and Thomas will be a nice target for young Freeman.
67. Titans DE Cameron Heyward Ohio St.***
They have some free agents at DE. Heyward and Suh could be a great duo.
68. Browns LB Micah Johnson Kentucky
Jackson is a FA so this could potentially be a huge hole.
69. Chiefs LB Ricky Sapp Clemson
Value pick here. Gives them a pass rusher.
70. Lions CB Javier Arenas Alabama
Just keep adding talent.
71. Raiders CB Kareem Jackson Alabama***
They need help EVERYWHERE.
72. Redskins DE JEREMY JARMON KENTUCKY
They used this selection during the supplemental draft.
73. Panthers TE Aaron Hernandez Florida***
Adds another receiving threat for whoever is throwing interceptions there.
74. Dolphins LB George Selvie South Florida
Could go higher but at this point the Dolphins would love to have him.
75. Eagles (SEA) TE Rob Gronkowski Arizona***
They took Jack Ikegwanu when he was hurt and Cornelius Ingram when he was hurt so why not Gronkowski.
76. Bills WR Danario Alexander Missouri
A big WR to replace TO. Gives QB nice duo to work with Gresham and Alexander.
77. Jaguars QB Tim Tebow Florida
Here's the deal I don't know if he can play QB in the NFL. Do you? He could go higher after all Pat White went in round 2 last year I just don't know who would take him.
78. Bears T Tony Washington Abilene Christian
They have had good luck with players from Abilene Christian I could see them doing it again. They want to improve the OLine (or so they say).
79. 49ers QB Tony Pike Cincinnati
He could battle Smith and Hill for the job.
80. Chargers DT Phil Taylor Baylor***
Could replace Jamal Williams in the future.
81. Ravens T Adam Ulatoski Texas
They have some free agents at T.
82. Texans CB Trevard Lindley Kentucky
In case Dunta leaves.
83. Falcons RB Joe McKnight USC***
If Norwood signs else where McKnight would be a nice complement to Turner.
84. Cowboys WR Mardy Gilyard Cincinnati
They might go Decker if they want a bigger WR.
85. Eagles DT Jared Odrick Penn St.
Just adds depth. He could go higher.
86. Browns (NYJ) T Sam Young Notre Dame
They need someone to play RT.
87. Packers RB Evan Royster Penn St.***
Never know what you're going to get out of their RBs.
88. Steelers G Mike Iupati Idaho
Some say he's a 1st rounder. I don't see it.
89. Cardinals G Rodney Hudson Florida St.***
Could go higher but here he is a steal.
90. Bengals TE Anthony McCoy USC
They have FAs and injuries to the TE position. McCoy wold be a nice weapon to add to the arsenal.
91. Giants LB Navorro Bowman Penn St.***
Could go alot higher but character flaws could drop him as well.
92. Raiders (NEP) T Kyle Calloway Iowa
Like I've said before you try guessing what Al Davis will do.
93. Vikings RB DeMarco Murray Oklahoma***
Chester Taylor is a free agent so they might need to replace him.
94. Broncos G Jon Asamoah Illinois
They have some free agents at G.
95. Colts DE Thaddeus Gibson Ohio St.***
If he declares he could go higher. Here he is a steal.
96. Saints CB Alterraun Verner UCLA
BPA.

Well I love the whole Tebow in the 3rd round thing for the Jaguars
And I really like the Jaguars taking a safety in the first round. Just not Mays. I’d honestly rather have Morgan Burnett. I understand the pick though, great mock.

In all honesty the Jaguars will continue to be the hardest team to pick for due to the Tebow talk as well as the not knowing what defense they will commit to.

I concur if the Jaguars could get Tebow in the 3rd that would be so acceptable
I also agree with the selection proposed by SoCal, that we take Burnett at the 13th spot or drafting down and then selecting him.

I'd be happy with those first two rounds for the Cards
I’d prefer they take a inside backer in the third but 2 out of three is pretty good.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I thought Rodney Hudson was too good to pass up in round 3.

Move Cody down a bit…I see him going in the mid 1st.

Did you read my comments?
I stated that I don’t think he should go that high. Bill Parcells does go defense most of the time (I know about Jake Long) with drafting two corners high last year and no pass rusher worthy of that pick it comes down to does he go offense (Dez Bryant)? or Terrance Cody? The lack of NT will definately make his stock go up.

The Saints have Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell. Reggie Bush is alright too. They passed on Beanie for a reason
by TheRealSlimShady on Oct 27, 2009 5:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
They tried trading back up in round 1 to get him and reportedly teams were asking too much. Both Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell are free agents. As I stated in the beginning and I quote
“I also take into account the team’s pending free agents, once again i’m aware not all with sign with new teams”

If Bradford is available as you show it I would not be surprised to see someone trade up.
I would love to see the Lions trade out of #6 as Berry, Okung, and Suh are all gone. I like Gerald McCoy but it would be hard to turn down multiple picks for the one. I think a few teams like Washington, San Fran, Seattle, or Buffalo might be willing to part with a few picks to get Bradford.

Yes, you are right. I just have a hard time believing that Bradford will fall that far.
He was being talked up in 2009 as the #1 rated QB if he had declared. As a Lions fan I am happy he stayed put. I think Stafford will be a very good pro. Very happy with his progress.
by NorthLeft12 on Oct 27, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He might not
Maybe a team like the Browns like Bradford more. Look at Sanchez last year he was talked about going mid to low round 1 until the workouts and interviews started then he was going up up up and can see the same for Bradford. It all depends on what team falls in love with him.

I dunno
I agree NO may look for a RB but I dunno about adding one in round 1.
I think they would add a FA ( LenDale White?) and maybe a late round RB
by Montell on Oct 27, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Why not round 1 if they were thinking of doing it last year?
I’m not going have the Saints pass on Dwyer because they could go after LenDale White.
You go ahead and guess what free agents will sign where but I am not doing that.

because Mike Bell
has been beasting for them. He is a legit power back. Also, Pierre Thomas (who he usurped in the lineup) is another very good back. They don’t need to draft a running back high if they keep one of those two through free agency

LOVE the first 2 Eagles picks
but there is no way Andy would pass on Trevard Lindley in the 3rd round for an injured TE. Also, if you change that pick, we have virtually 0 need at DT (Bunkley, Patterson, Laws, Antonio Dixon). If we don’t take Gronkowski with the first of the 3rd round picks, Anthony McCoy would be great there!
by birds'n'raiders on Oct 27, 2009 9:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I'll keep that in mind
I was just thinking the Eagles have a history of taking injured players (Ikegwu and Ingram) so if Gronkowski was to fall there (if he declares) he would be a steal.
With the Odrick pick I felt the value was too good to pass up.
I’ll keep that in mind though. Thanks.

a couple notes...
while i understand you have your own opinions, I just want to note a few things that seem really out there.
Joe Haden is not a top 10 pick. Top 15…maybe
Bruce Campbell is the 3rd best OT in the draft. He should be gone by pick 15.
Tampa Bays does not need O-line help, they have one of the best young O-lines in the game.
You have G Mike Johnson going to the Lions with Ciron Black and Selvish Capers on the board. Black, IMO, is the hands down best GUARD (ya i said it) prospect in the draft. He reminds me of a less athletic Shawn Andrews. Capers is more of a 3rd/4th round Tackle Prospect, but Mike Johnson shouldn’t be mentioned until the 3rd round.
If Jevan Snead declares, he will go 6th or 7th round.
Colt McCoy shouldn’t be drafted.
Lindley belongs in the first 50 picks.
Ravens do not need a tackle that high. Gaither is a RESTRICTED free agent
Spiller to the bottom of the 2nd round??
by birds'n'raiders on Oct 27, 2009 10:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Just like Derius Heyward Bey wasn’t a top 10 pick? Tyson Jackson? Denver drafting a RB?Having two centers get drafted in round 1? Laurinitis and Mauluga dropping to round 2? Kevin O’Connell being drafted by the Patriots in 3rd round (2008)?
Point being crap happens.
Haden true he may not be a top 10 pick but he is the best corner in the draft and there is a drop off after him (not a great deal but still). They are in a position to “reach” no matter where they go if they go OL Trent Williams is a reach if they go NT Cody is a reach, etc…
You have Bruce Campbell as the 3rd OT that’s fine, I don’t. He has the talent to be the first OL taken even over Okung but a history of injuries although mostly minor could still hurt him.
Donald Penn and Jeremy Trueblood are free agents at the end of the year so I gave them a tackle.
Selvish Capers and Ciron Black are Tackles and I did give the Lions a G in Mike Johnson.
Who knows Black may be the best G but he doesn’t play it. Johnson is arguably the best G in the draft and could be taken highly. Capers will go higher than 3/4.
Snead has alot of tools that won’t let him fall that far. 2nd round might MIGHT be a reach but I don’t feel he drops drastically.
Colt McCoy will be drafted. Why would you even say he shouldn’t?
Lindley could be and probably will be a top 50 pick, I have three underclassmen ahead of him so if they don’t declare then yeah he moves up.
Gaither is indeed a RESTRICTED free agent. Which in a year where this no salary cap could be as good as gone if a team say the Cowboys throw alot of money his way would the Ravens match? Maybe, maybe not? Who knows. It should be interesting with an uncapped year.
Spiller is a personal favorite of mine I have loved watching him play the last four years. Yes he could go higher and he probably will. While doing this mock I just found better fits for teams other than Spiller. I was wrestling with the idea of him going #42 to Seattle but gave them Brian Price instead.

I think you got it about right
Our coaches like OT Doug Free, but he is not battle tested so we are likely to draft competition, probably in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Also Marcus Spears is in his contract year and I think another team is going to offer him a bigger contract than we are likely to match so DE in the first round sounds about right.

A couple of comments on your mock.
I don’t see the Lions thinking that a Guard is the best value at # 38. There are plenty of Free Agent Guards available every year. Looking at your mock Dowling -CB, Davis – OT, one of the many Safeties, or Price – DT might be better value here.
I love Arenas in round #3. Fantastic value no matter what the Lions do earlier.
I know there is a lot of buzz regarding Campbell at LT, but I would be very nervous drafting a lineman who can’t stay healthy in college. Durability is something that you have to have on your O line. Especially at the LT. I think where you have him going is a very reasonable spot. He could end up being a steal, but there is a fair amount of risk in my opinion.
by NorthLeft12 on Oct 28, 2009 8:01 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree the Lions could go a number of ways. Johnson is arguably the best G in the draft and I could see them taking him. Guards and centers are the hardest to predict where to go IMO. They got to go somewhere yet no one wants there team to draft one.
Totally agree on Campbell that is why I can’t have him top 15 like alot of other mocks do that I have seen.

Bills
Don’t need a TE- already have Shawn Nelson.
I don’t see them using their 1st rounder on a LB. QB, OT, DT are needs.
by Der Jaeger on Oct 28, 2009 9:57 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I liked Nelson coming out last year but he isn’t Gresham and to get him at #44 would be a huge steal considering he was a top 10 pick last year.
According to my draft scenario the best players at the positions you want is Ryan Mallett, Trent Williams, Marvin Austin. I just can’t see them going that high yet. I really do believe that if Travis Lewis comes out he will skyrocket up the draft board.

The Bills have way too many needs
to grab another TE.
Nelson is damn good too. Gresham has bust potential too cuz of the injury and the whole product of OU’s offense type thing.
Better suited going somewhere else.

If Ponder declares
I say the Jags pick him up. They definitely wont go safety first pick. They need a rushing OLB for the 3-4 and some big men for their O line.

What round?
I don’t think Ponder is a mid 1st rounder. Yet. Why won’t the Jags go safety in round 1? Jags took two T’s last year so you mean guards and center when you say big men?

by tj.hendricks on Oct 29, 2009 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ponder is a Matt Ryan type.
He is ready to start at QB in the NFL day one. He makes all the throws, has great arm strength and is incredibly smart.
They won’t go safety because they already have two decent ones. Nelson would play better with a pass rush. Alexander looks pretty good at SS. The Jags need to redo their entire front seven. The LBers are crucial in a 3-4 and right now they are not good enough to generate the pass rush necessary in that scheme.
Plus Ponder is BAP at where the Jags would potentially pick. I think he is the steal of the draft.
by Slvrgun on Oct 30, 2009 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
uh....
no.
Ponder in no way is Matt Ice.
Ponder is moving up draft charts…yea, but that was cuz he was a 6th rounder before this.
He may be a 2nd rounder, possible a late 1st rounder depending on who comes out.
He comes from a good program, good height and all that other good QB stuff…but no way is he a Matt Ryan type and ready to start from day one. That’s a joke right?

I do think we go Defensive and a safety like Burnett or a (Off. or Def.) Lineman or a 3-4 LB happens.

I like Ponder alot
But in no way can I see Matt Ryan in him. So are you saying Ponder is at worst the 13 best player in the entire draft? I can’t see any team saying he is the best available player not QB but player at 13.

I agree
Its hard not to want Mcclain or Burnett instead of Ponder

I would hope for the Jaguars
and their fans sake..that if they did have a choice between Ponder and Tebow…in the 3rd round that is…that they chose Ponder.

Well for hypothetical purposes
Lets say Hiller, Tebow, Lefevour, and Ponder all were available in the 3rd.
I’d want Lefevour, Hiller, Tebow, Ponder. In that order.

I don’t think Ponder makes it to round 3 he would be a solid 3rd round pick.
