Saturday NFL Draft watch notes

• No game today could carry as much anticipation as the contest between Washington and Notre Dame. With Jevan Snead struggling and Sam Bradford being hurt, Washington's Jake Locker and Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen have become the top two junior quarterback prospects.

Both have their distinct strengths. For Locker, it's a great arm and really good athleticism. He struggled some against the Stanford blitz last week, but he's the total package. Clausen is similar to former Fighting Irish quarterback Brady Quinn. He's smart and disciplined but doesn't have the best arm.

• The Arkansas State/Iowa game doesn't offer much excitement on paper. However, scouts from the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints will be on hand to observe junior left tackle Bryan Bulaga. Returning from a thyroid issue, Bulaga has been cleared to play. When he's healthy, he's one of the best players in college football.

• Snead will once again be in the spotlight as Mississippi takes on Vanderbilt. Snead has looked indecisive all season and has a way to go to reclaim top prospect status. Picking apart at Commodores pass defense that is one of the best in the nation could go a long way in helping his cause.

Vanderbilt senior cornerback Myron Lewis had two interceptions last week and is beginning to display the promise many had hoped to see all season. He has an NFL frame but not the best speed.

• The possible matchup today between Alabama sophomore wide receiver Julio Jones and Kentucky senior cornerback Trevard Lindley is intriguing. There are questions about how well Lindley holds up against physical wide receivers and few are more physical than Jones.

• The mental part of Eric Berry's game will be tested today against a fast-paced Auburn offense. Tonight he can show how well he adjusts to a no-huddle offense. it could be argued that berry is playing better than anyone in the nation, but the no-name Tigers offense could test him.

Really?
Clausen is similar to former Fighting Irish quarterback Brady Quinn. He’s smart and disciplined but doesn’t have the best arm.

I guess if you consider a Flacco or a Cutler to have the ‘best arm’ then yea, Clausen doesn’t have the ‘best arm’. He’s got an arm-cannon tho, I really don’t know where you see otherwise.

His arm is every bit as good as Locker, that’s for sure.

And is there any doubt that when Julio Jones gets drafted he’s gonna be a great WR? The guy is a sophmore and just dominates. Between him and AJ Green on Georgia the potential WR draft class with those 2 alone is one of the best in a while.

I guess we’ll just disagree on Clausen’s arm strength then. I don’t see it. He floats deep balls.

And also rember that his turf toe is affecting the way he plants his feet, so he doesnt get as much power.

alright...

but I still don’t know where you’re seeing it.

Yea, he may float deep balls, but some times you do put air under the deep ball.

I’ve just seen too many frozen rope 30 yard outs by Clausen to even consider his arm not elite.

I agree.

Claussen’s arm is ok, but when you’re comparing him to pros and pro prospects like Stafford or Jake Locker or Daunte Culpepper, he’s nothing to write home about.

Mark Sanchez has a pretty good arm, and can make all the necessary throws, but no one says that he has great arm strength.

YES! Finally someone agrees with me so I don’t think I’m going nuts.

I will have to agree with Bradshaw here and disagree with Dan. Ive watched Clausen for a while now and I really think he has a great arm and is accurate on deep balls.

And AJ Green and Julio are both great, but Michael Floyd would have been getting a lot of talk too if he didnt break his collarbone.

I agree

Clausen looks like he has a strong arm to me.

What the hell is roughing the snapper?

Seemed like a makeup call from the bad touchdown reversal.

Hopefully after this Washington/Notre Dame game people realize how good Golden Tate is. He’s amazing after the catch and has huge legs.

Also, I loathe the NBC Notre Dame announcers.

He and Jimmy Clausen are both crazy good

Jake Locker

Does anyone have a scouting report on him? I wish I could find a good one but it’s to early in the year to find one so do you guys know one?
