Look for Suh and Weatherspoon to shine tonight
Two of the more exciting defensive prospects will be on the field tonight when Missouri takes on Nebraska.
Clearly the star of tonight's game is senior Ndamukong Suh, the incredible defensive tackle for Nebraska. How is this for insane? Suh is tied for sixth in the nation in passes defended per game with 1.5 a contest. Four of those came in a dominant performance against Virginia Tech on Sept. 19.
Add in three sacks and Suh already has almost a year's worth of production for an interior lineman. He can make so many plays thanks in large part to his quickness. The senior has cemented his place as the top senior defensive tackle in the nation. His play is very similar to that of Shaun Rogers for the Browns, except he's about 40 pounds lighter.
Suh plays with a nasty demeanor and should have another great game tonight.
For the Tigers, Sean Weatherspoon makes plays from sideline-to-sidleine. He already has 38 tackles and is on pace for his third consecutive season of more than 100 tackles.
Weatherspoon doesn't have the most physical style of play, but he's a good tackler and plays disciplined.
Also for the Tigers, keep an eye on senior wide receiver Danario Alexander. Until this season, injuries have ravaged Alexander's career. He came to Missouri with freakish athletic ability, including a reported 46-inch vertical leap.
Some of that leaping ability might be gone, but he's turned himself into sophomore quarterback Blaine Gabbert's favorite target. On the season, Alexander has 29 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns.
Although Gabbert is only a sophomore, watch how he throws the ball. He has the potential to be a first-round pick due to his large frame and great throwing arm.
Other than Suh, Weatherspoon and Alexander, this game does not feature a lot of NFL Draft talent among its upperclassmen.

I dont know about the Shaun Rogers comparison. Suh would be a 34 DE, and Rogers is a Nose Tackle

I’ll be shocked if Suh doesn’t play DT in the NFL.

In a 3-4 he isnt big enough to play DT.

Come on man. Not every team runs a 3-4 and Rogers hasn’t played in a 3-4 his whole career.

I just said in a 3-4. That was all I was talking about. I know that if he is drafted by a 43 team that he will play tackle.

not every 3-4
DE needs to be 650lbs you know.
See: Ratliff, Jay.

Exaggeration fail
Nose tackles should be 325-350
" Of course Steroids should be allowed! I wanna see 700 foot home runs and 90 yard field goals! I litterally want to see someone's d**k get shoved in the dirt!"

?
should be.
Don’t have to be.
Jay Ratliff is one of the best in the game. He’s not even 300lbs.

you're trying to prove something
…that I already said was generally true…
I’m saying the NT doesn’t have to be 900lbs to be considered a NT.
Suh is 305, give or take a cheeseburger or 4.
See :Jason Ferguson, Jay Ratliff, Ogemdi Nwagbuo, Ron Fields, Ron Edwards, Abrayo Franklin..
Yea, most of the very good ones like Wilfork, Rogers and Ngata are well over 320, but there’s also half or more that are under 320.
You are wrong.
If Suh beefs up to 315 and a team wants him to be a NT, there is no reason he can’t. He plays up the middle now anyway, why play him as a 3-4 DE?

I question whether you understand a 3-4.
A 3-4 DE is VERY similar to being a DT in a 4-3. 3-4 DEs are usually 290-315.

when you think like that...
that a lineman needs to be a certain size…you get the Browns.
What the hell do you think I don’t understand?
I know what the 3-4 is….don’t try an act like you are the all knowing authority on it when you watch the Cleveland Browns every week.
Watch Jay Ratliff. Tell me after you watch him play ONE defensive series if all NT must be 350lbs….
Depends on the player and also that particular 3-4 scheme.
Not every team that runs the 3-4 has a gigantic fat as their NT.

All I’m saying is that usually coaches want their NTs to be huge, and I think Suh would be better as a DE in a 3-4. We really are arguing on something that doesnt matter a whole lot, so I’m done.
Just because your team is a million times better than mine doesnt meant that your fans are smarter.

Damn you are a pain in the ass.......
why are you putting words in my mouth?
I said you don’t know it all on the 3-4 cuz your team plays it. I never said anything about smarter fans. There’s dumb and smart fans for every team.
Yea, teams would rather have that bigger player in the middle as the NT….it just doesn’t mean that you automatically aren’t considered it cuz you aren’t ideal for it.

So Dan
Do you think Suh could play NT in a 3-4? Or would he be forced to be a DE or maybe just not be a fit for the scheme at all?
by Brendan Scolari on Oct 8, 2009 10:40 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Since Dan doesn't want to answer it :)
and I’ve been bugged into getting into it…yea, Suh certainly can play NT in a 3-4.
The guy is NOT small, he’s listed at 305 and more than likely can add 10-15lbs if its needed.
Also, the guy is very strong, something possibly the best NT in the game, Jay Ratliff, uses as an “undersized” NT.
It depends on the scheme and the team. Cuz if the team doesn’t have a 400lbs man to play NT, why not try using Suh as the NT? entire college O-line’s are incapable of blocking him and that’s what NT’s are required to do, require multiple blockers to block him.

Sorry Brendan, forget to respond to this one.
Could Suh play 3-4 NT? Sure, but it wouldn’t suit his talents the best. 3-4 NTs generally are supposed to take up two blockers. If they can do more than that, great. Suh isn’t a guy who’s going to take on two blockers. He’s a gap splitter.
