Jake Locker highlight reel

If you haven't had the chance to see many Washington games and don't know a lot about quarterback Jake Locker, check out this highlight video.

Locker hasn't made his pro intentions known yet. In fact, there has been no update on Locker's status in almost a week. Juniors have until Jan. 15 to declare for the draft.

Looks a lot like Matt Cassel

Very similar measurables, elusiveness, baseball style throwing motion, arm strength, and so on and so forth. Locker is a little bit faster.

He looks to have a ton of talent. I was looking at it simply for negatives, and this is my impression:

1. His deep passes required WR adjustments to make the catch, mid range passes looked good. Those jump balls turn into INT’s a lot more often in the pro’s.

2. He is always moving, and not in tiny amounts. Will need to learn pocket patience. so his lineman know where his passing windows are.

3. Speed is a great commodity to lessen pass rush and coverage, he won’t be a runner in the NFL, but that ability helps you succeed.

4. I know squat about analyzing throwing motion, but it looked like work could benefit him there.

5. I really liked that when he was running he was still looking to pass, even on the TD run he was looking for a pass until the last second.

Obviously this is mostly from the video, haven’t watched him much. I’d take him later in a draft, third or fourth round, because if given time and if he works hard he could be something. He’ll need good weapons with him, his passes aren’t going to make receivers look good like Peyton or Brady, they will have to make plays for him.

3rd or 4th round? really?

by TheRealSlimShady on Dec 14, 2009 6:19 PM EST up reply actions

Well, that assumes a very good combine where he makes good throws. Probably still too high.

by Phantaskippy on Dec 14, 2009 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

Damn.

and he doesn’t have much talent around him.

I dunno if he should declare this year tho.

Another year with Sarkesian should help a whole lot.

He seems to have Vick-ish speed/arm strength.

I think he’s a better passer than Vick tho.

A guy who can throw on the run like that is invaluable (See: Vince Young).

He doesn’t have to be the most accurate guy. Once you get on the move like that, no one’s gonna stay with your WR like that.

He will have to learn pocket presence. This is why I’d say he needs to stay another year.

Lot of 5-7+ step drops here. Like to see more quick slants and stuff like that. This sort of stuff he’s doing here doesn’t work much (when he’s in the pocket) in the NFL.

I love his improved release.

It’s quick and crisper.
