Cal junior running back Jahvid Best is still suffering from a concussion and back injury suffered in early November and will not play in the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

For Best, that may mean his next snap will be taken will be in the NFL. But you have to wonder, if his concussion problems are this bad, how that will affect his draft stock?

I feel bad for Best

I’m sure this injury will greatly affect his draft status.

Well it's not like this is a reoccurring thing

He just got really really messed up this one time. If he can come out healthy and looking good in the combine, I think he’ll do just fine. Percy Harvin is doing fine with all of his headaches and what not.

That’s true. But at the same time, injuries are starting to pile up a little on Best. He had elbow surgery last year. And he missed some games as a freshman because of a hip injury.

Concussions are a reoccuring thing actually

Every time you get a concussion it reduces your body’s resistance to getting another one. Same reason some fighters get KO’d badly once and are never the same. I wouldn’t risk any higher than a 3rd rounder on Best at this point. He might end up playing only a season or two with the type of concussion he sustained.

Gimme 1 round!

Best’s bowl game absence has nothing to do with the concussion. Symptoms went away soon after the injury. Pain in his back lingered a bit longer. The reason Best is missing the bowl game is he is not in football shape whatsoever. He has not practiced at all in over a month and Cal plays in less than a week.

I really doubt this affects his draft status at all. He projects from middle of the first round to early second round, and that will only get better at the combine or in his workout where his numbers will likely be off the charts.

That said, do not be surprised if Best stays at Cal for his senior season.

I would sense that’s exactly what he said, what Jeff Tedford said, and what every reporter covering Cal has said. Or, you could speculate wildly.
