Steelers Mock Draft
The Steelers will most likely be somewhere around the 16th pick.
- Rolando McClain- Linebacker (Ala)- The Steelers need a replacement for the aging James Farrior. Another option if they are available are- FS Taylor Mays, or CB Joe Hayden
- Dan Williams DT- (Tenn)- Due to Casey Hampton's age, an immediate need for DT to groom will be addressed through the draft. Another Option here is S Morgan Burnett, DT Terrance Cody, or CD Ras-I Howling
- Anthony Dixon- This guy would be a steal, he is a tough, gritty, Steelers style player that a new OC needs. Other thoughts could be LB Micah Johnson, CB Javier Arenas, or Mike Johnson OL
- Maurice Pouncey OL Florida- A big tough, physical lineman to groom on a slow to connect Oline. Other Options could be OL Sam Young, OL Mike Pouncey, or WR Dexter McCluster COMPENSATORY PICK
- Dexter McCluster WR Ole Miss- Due to his lack of size, he'll probably fall somewhere in the mid to late rounds. He has athleticism that is much needed and could strongly boost the return game. Other picks could be RB Ben Tate, RB Charles Scott, or WR Terrance Tolliver
- Leigh Tiffin K Alabama- This guy is Bama's all time leading scorer. He has a strong and accurate leg and could boost special teams. Other Options CB Walter McFadden, DE Antonio Coleman, or RB Damion Fletcher
- Clint Gresham LS TCU- Due to injuries to Greg Warren back to back, the Steelers will most likely be shopping for a good prospect. Other Viable options could be FB Richard Dickson, FB Clay Harbor or QB Todd Reesing

Would love to see this
But I highly doubt Dan Williams falls to the second round. Too high of a demand for 3-4 NT.

I don't think he falls any farther than the early second round.
Might be a better Nose tackle than Cody. I would take him ahead of Cody.

Same with Cody
I thing we go NT first due to lack of NTs overall, and LB later.
I getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

That has to suck w/everybody stealing (steeling?) your 3-4 defensive players
It must change the way you draft.
surprisingly the offense has lost the same amount people to FA than the D
and has been effected more. The only players who left us in past years were Kimo(the guy who blew out Palmers knee.), Mcfadden, and Hope. Porter, Haggans, and Foote were cut because of Money, backups were better, and age. Offensively we’ve lost Burgess, Randle El, Washington, and Faneca. Randle was finally replaced by Washington last year. Wallace replaced him this year and has made us forget about “butter finger” Washington.

just saying
If Rolando McClain is there in the 1st… we need to snag him. I think we can hold off on DT because Hampton will resign. I’d like to see Joe Hayden or Taylor Mays too.
In my opinion
Neither of the Pouncey twins will fall past the end of the second.

Trust me, you don’t want anything to do with Leigh Tiffin. I know he’s having a solid year and has NFL distance, but I’d hardly call him accurate. He’s missed three extra points this season and he’s a career 25 for 36 from 30-39 yards and 17 for 30 from 40-49. I know Jeff Reed is nothing special, but at least he’s automatic on the kicks that NFL kickers should be automatic on. Kickers have an enormously high bust rate too. Maybe Tiffin will continue to improve and will one day be an NFL kicker, but he’s not a guy you want to rely on as a rookie, especially for a team with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations.
I’m assuming you mean Maurkice Pouncey and if so, there’s no way he’d last until the fourth round. Maybe his brother Michael could make it that far, but Maurkice is a first round type talent and the only player in this draft who could play center who would be worth a pick in the top 75 or so picks.
I think Rolando McClain being available at 16 is a little optimistic and Dan Williams being available in the middle of the 2nd round is even more optimistic, but those are nit-picky concerns for a one team mock.

Confidence breeds success, self-doubt breeds failure
I would like to see the Lions take Dixon in the third round if he is there.
I’d be surprised if he gets to the middle of the third round.
McClain
Doubt he falls to you at 16. denver grabs him him their chi pick or maybe houston. sorry I am a ravens Fan
McClain's not going 16...
probably top 10..maybe top 5.

Earl Thomas still "my boy"
That man can play. Great ballhawk, and could develop into a Polamalu-like safety.

You must hate Crabtree.
True knowledge is knowing you know nothing!
Trade up for Berry Scot it's the move to make. "Who is Berry?"..............Here we go again!!
I have my money on Cody over Williams
You don’t need anything on offense that demands a 1st rounder, so you are safe there. As far as Defense, your NT hasn’t been extended and he could get attention from the Chiefs or another new defense with more money than the Steelers, or maybe he has an attitude by not getting th eextension and goes to play for NE so Wilfork can play DE. The Secondary is an obvios need and I see two or three picks there. Unfortunately only late round ILB’s will be in the future of the Steelers, IMO.

Why? The one name free agent that team has signed in like the last decade was James Farrior. Lawrence Timmons was a first rounder. They’ve got a history of making it a priority position. Not saying they will, but I definitely wouldn’t say that they won’t.
And why would New England have any interest in moving Wilfork off the nose? At 6’2’’, 325 he’s pretty much a prototype NT.

He plays DE in some plays, he is an athletic freak for his size.
The NT is the most essential position to stopping the run in the 3-4 and the Steelers have had one of the best there and may not have him next season, I think that would catapult this to an immediate need over ILB.

Shaun Rogers can play DE, and he is 350
by TheRealSlimShady on Dec 27, 2009 12:16 PM EST up reply actions
Shaun Rogers also has 35.5 career sacks. Wilfork has 7.5. Six seasons, ninety games and Wilfork has seven and a half sacks. He’s not a fit at defensive end in any scheme. Why would NE want to move one of the best NTs in the game to a different position?

But I think New England already has Ron Brace so they wouldn’t need Hampton for moving Wilfork to end.

There are other teams that may want Hampton
IE. the Cowboys, Chiefs, Cardinals, even a 4-3 team could want him. He is good!!

when he was young he was good.

Vince Wilfork can be listed as 325 all he wants....
that man is NOT 325lbs….

Congrats to him.
I wasn’t talking about Shaun Rogers.
Rogers is also 6"4.
Wilfork is generally listed at 6"1. He’s a bowling ball. A perfect NT. You don’t move him to 3-4 DE.
Rogers is more athletic.

Exactly. Wilfork is a natural fit lined up across from the center.

Farrior’s replacement is Timmons. Look at Timmons Strengths, he flies to the ball and covers well (when healthy), exactly what Farrior does. We need Larry Foote type guys, tough, not flashy guys who take on blocks well to compliment a Farrior or Timmons. Timmons and Farrior don’t work great together because they are best at the same position.
For LB I don’t expect any early picks, we just need depth with some youth, our PS guys aren’t working out. But we also do well finding LB depth in FA often, so we may not draft LB at all.
DT and Safety are our big defensive needs, unless there is a top notch Corner out there falling to us, in that case grab them.
Other than that Tackle depth is the only position we are weak at, we can take whatever is good at that point.
Jags
Got a trade with the Steelers name on it. Reggie Nelson and Clint Ingram for a 2nd round pick. Clint has enough beef to play inside and take on blocks, and Reggie Nelson can get in receivers way during routes, well… sometimes he can.

-Akrobatik
I don't think we would take Nelson
at all. We need D-line help more than secondary. We wouldn’t use that pick on a Safety who can’t cover. we already got one like that
I getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
But you could always use another one right...
Anything man. We’d probably take used toilet paper for Nelson and consider it a deal.
