Kansas City Chiefs Mock Draft & FA

After watching 15 games this season, heres what i think would help the Chiefs in 2010. I kept in mind the CBA and i'm basing my 1st and 2nd rounds on ESPN's McShays mock draft. If the CBA situation isn't resolved be the time free agency rolls around, ive selected players who will be un-restricted free agents. They have been in the league more than 5 years, which is the criteria.

Star-divide

Free Agency:

1. NT, Ryan Pickett

2. ILB, D'Qwell Jackson

3. SS, Daniel Manning

4. OG, Logan Mankins

2010 NFL Draft:

Round 1 - FS, Eric Berry

Round 2 - OG, Mike Luptai

Round 2 - OLB, Brandon Graham

Round 3 - ILB, Daryl Washington

Round 4 - WR, Jacoby Ford

Round 5 - RB, Charles Scott

Round 5 - FB, Owen Marecic

Round 5 KR/PR, Brandon James

Starting Lineups:

Offense:

Offensive Line: Brandon Albert, Mike Luptai, Brian Waters, Logan Mankins, Ryan O'Callahan

Receivers: Dwayne Bowe, Chris Chambers, Jacoby Ford, Brad Cottam

QB & Running Backs: Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, Charles Scott

Defense:

Defensive Line: Glenn Dorsey, Ryan Pickett, Tyson Jackson

Linebackers: Tamba Hali, Daryl Washington, D'Qwell Jackson, Brandon Graham

Secondary: Brandon Carr, Daniel Manning, Eric Berry, Brandon Flowers

Special Teams:

Kicker: Ryan Succop

Punter: Dustin Colquitt

Kick Returner: Daniel Manning, Brandon James

Punt Returner: Jacoby Ford, Brandon James

Conclusion: I think this is a very solid team. The team becomes bigger, faster, and smarter. Players like Berry, Ford, Washington, James add much needed speed to all phases of the game, and players like D'Qwell, Mankins, Pickett, Manning add much need veteran leadership. I think this team could definitely compete for the division. What do you think?

I like the acquisitons, but I don't see the Pats letting Mankins walk

Also, Mankins is a LG, not a RG, so you need to make that adjustment on your depth chart.

I also think Waters could be a good center for us (Tim Grunhard agrees) and that Niswanger needs to either learn how to play guard or find a new career. I just don’t see it happening though (or else it would have been done by now).

The pats have not be known to resign players like Mankins

He will probably be the highest paid OG in the league, The pats usually dont sign guys like that back. Plus, They draft some interior linemen last year and could pick up someone like Iupati.

by darwithabar on Dec 31, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

Also

They just resigned one of their other olinemen, and have another one who will be a free agent. I cant imagine the Pats paying all 3 this season. Plus, they have Matt Light, who is another high paid linemen.

common error

it’s mike iupati, not Lupati

but he is the MAN.

Might be kinda triple dipping at LG, like Nick says above… assuming Waters is reatained, you may have 4 linemen who are best suited at LG… Albert, Waters, Mankins, Iupati…

Getting EITHER makins or iupati would be a huge gain for KC, along with a Center and Safety in the draft and a NT in FA…

Iupati might go in the 1st

Depending on what he does at the Senior Bowl. He thinks he can play LT and he has the size and quickness to do so. If he play LT at the Senior Bowl and has a good showing his draft prospects will shoot up the board.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

he looked amazing in the bowl game

he will definately get some consideration in the 2nd half of round one, but could fall to the top / mid part of round 2

Hard to imagine

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

Sorry, posted to early

Its hard to imagine that his college team needed him at guard more than tackle, if he can play that position.

No, you won’t sign Dqwell Jackson. He will be a Brown.

by TheRealSlimShady on Dec 31, 2009 8:11 PM EST reply actions

I know that Mangini has said Dqwell is the leader of our defense and is one of the only 2 players we wouldn’t listen to trade offers for on the team.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 1, 2010 12:26 PM EST up reply actions

What if he doesnt want to resign?

The browns could franchise him, thats probably the only way they keep him. If they dont franchise him, The browns have zero leverage and will probably loss him.

by darwithabar on Jan 1, 2010 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, the Browns have 0 chance at signing someone who was already on our team, but the Chiefs(one of the few teams worse than the Browns) have a great shot at him.

Yeah right.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 1, 2010 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

I never said the Chiefs had a chance at signing him

Also, There is no way the Browns are better then the Chiefs or even the Rams. Both teams suck, If they played each other ten times they would probably both win 5 games.

by darwithabar on Jan 1, 2010 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

WE BEAT YOU JUST A COUPLE WEEKS AGO!!!!!!!!

sometimes I worry about you…

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 1, 2010 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

And the Bears beat the Vikings last week

They played better on that day. The Browns are not better then the Chiefs at all. You got 2 kickoff returns for TDs, Without those the Chiefs win. Any given Sunday a team can win. Your team is 4-11, Its not like they are a playoff team or I would agree. No Slim, Sometimes I worry about you. Your name is the Real Slim Shady for god’s sake. You have no intellgent input in any post ive seen on here. The NFL is filled with Parity, Clevland beat the Giants last year, Were they just the better team? Get Real.

by darwithabar on Jan 1, 2010 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

Also

You had a 300 yd rushing day on us while our best defensive linemen was out. I would hardly say you guys are better. Both the teams suck and are in the bottom 5 of the league.

by darwithabar on Jan 1, 2010 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

We have our best D lineman out. And our best safety. And our two best ILBs.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 3, 2010 12:00 AM EST up reply actions

Special teams is part of the game, quit making excuses.

Who cares if my name is The Real Slim Shady? What the hell is Darwithabar supposed to mean?

You STILL haven’t given me a reason why the Chiefs are better…

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 3, 2010 12:03 AM EST up reply actions

I never said the Chiefs were better

To say the Browns are better is stupid. Glenn Dorsey is the biggest Cog to our Defense. No way you guys rush for over 250 on us if he is in the game. Both of the teams are bad, bottom line. Just because a team beats another team once doesnt make them better. You beat the Giants last year, We just beat the Broncos, We also beat the Steelers. Does that make us a better team then the Steelers? Get real. Seriously, You have zero football intelligence and I cant stand to even debate with you.

by darwithabar on Jan 3, 2010 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

if Dqwell Johnson goes...

there’s a ton of other teams that would grab him..

by FreeBradshaw on Jan 1, 2010 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

He would probably try to sign with a contender.

by darwithabar on Jan 1, 2010 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

I think they could compete for the division if all this happened

But I think we will be lucky to get Pickett and Mankins. The good thing is the Chiefs have over 30 mil in cap room and the only team with more spac has 4 or 5 players they need to resign.

by darwithabar on Dec 31, 2009 8:53 PM EST reply actions

Reshard Langford

We stole him from Philly’s practice squad, emphasis on stole. IMO he’s gonna end up being one of Pioli’s good finds. so we look for help in other areas than safety thru FA.
