Kansas' Dezmon Briscoe expected to enter draft
According to KUsports.com, Kansas junior wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe is expected to declare for the NFL Draft at a Friday news conference.
For his career, Briscoe had 219 receptions for 3,240 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown and a kickoff return touchdown. He earned first-team All-Big 12 honors this season and second-team honors in 2008.
Officially listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Briscoe certainly has impressive size. He uses his frame to get position in the air and does a nice job of beating the jam.
But Briscoe has been hampered throughout his college career by mental lapses and dropped passes. While he can make spectacular catches look routine, Briscoe will drop the easiest of passes. He's also had some fumbling issues and will take plays off.
For me, Briscoe projects as a mid-second-round pick, at best.

He'd probably be good value there
with all the stuff going on around ousted coach Mark Mangino, I might be inclined to interpret some of his lapses as something other than just your standard lack of concentration.
Fumbles are fumbles, no question about that. But the guy will go over the middle and into traffic. He’s also very good on kickoffs.
I’m a Missouri fan, and reflexively hate Dez Briscoe—but I respect the hell out of that kid. I think you’re right about where he projects right now. A solid combine though could get him into the bottom of round 1.
Of course, Danario Alexander is THE man.

How about that Mizz/KU game where a ball hit him in the face mask? I contest that my preseason comparison to Braylon Edwards is spot on.

He's not as fast as Edwards, although that's a pretty good comparison.

I don’t know about Edwards’ speed anymore. He was pretty fast coming out, but he’s had some injuries that I think slowed him down.

I'm not saying the kid doesn't have concentration lapses
merely that he’s big and toolsy. i don’t know his 40 time, but i know he doesn’t get caught from behind. if he works out well at the combine he could get himself into the first round.
as for playing a spread, i think teams have started to figure out better what things translate to the pros and what things are mirages.

If Alexander could beat man coverage he would be the man, but he cant

IMO, Briscoe's a mid-round pick. 3-5 rounds.
He’s slow, he drops way too many passes, and he plays in a spread offense that really has helped his stats. He’s just not that good. He’s going to run a 4.6 at the combine (really slow). I would really be surprised if someone were to take him before round 3.

Hakeem Nicks ran a 4.63
Mohammed Massaquoi ran a 4.66
Brian Robiskie ran a 4.59
Kenny Britt ran a 4.56
All were before round 3.
Draft guru in training.
Nicks ran that 4.6 after his hamstring injury
when he ballooned up to 240lbs.
he actually ran a 4.5 (and 4.42 with some watches).
…just defending HAKEEM THE DREAM
..but yea your right, a 4.6 is not gonna drop Briscoe to the 3rd round.
Bad hands, suspect overall athleticism and running spread offense routes….will.

Exactly.
All those things you mentioned, plus a bad 40 I’d going to kill him. The difference between guys like Nicks and Britt is that yes, they don’t have blazing speed, but they run nice crisp routes and have great hands. Briscoe has neither. He’s a 3-5 rounder. There’s nothing special about him other than the offense he plays in.

Where did you get those 40 times? That's completely wrong.
Nicks and Massaquoi ran in the 4.4’s. Britt and Robiskie ran in the low 4.5’s. Those were there numbers at there pro days. Nicks didn’t run at the NFL combine cause he was hurt.

they are off of nfl.com. under 2009 nfl draft combine results.
Where did you get that Massaquoi ran a 4.4? Hakeem Nicks did run in the NFL combine.
I’m not saying Briscoe is going to be a high pick, I just thought it was funny you mention 4.6 is really slow yet there were some high picks last year that ran in that range.

You're right. Nicks did run at the combine. My mistake.
But he ran a 4.9 at his pro day. At the combine he was hurt. And so did Massaqoui. Do ya, like I said, you really shouldn’t look into there Combine times. There’s were mistakes. Briscoe really does run a 4.6. And if he were to have the same injury that Nicks had at the combine he would run a 4.8 or 4.9.
