Saturday NFL Draft watch notes: West Virginia/Rutgers
Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers: Anyone who doubts Davis' ability did not see the Rutgers/Pittsburgh game. He dominated Greg Romeus and looks ready to be a top-15 pick in April. Davis, a junior, is a powerful left tackle who excels in run blocking. He might not be the most fleet of foot, but he can manhandle defensive ends in front of him.
Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers: McCourty has an odd stat line for a cornerback. He only has one interception, but he leads the Scarlet Knights in tackles. According to Rutgers' official stats, McCourty has 7.5 tackles for a loss. McCourty is a tenacious player and can help against the run. He's undersized at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, but he has good agility and solid technique.
Selvish Capers, OT, West Virginia: Capers entered the season highly touted by draftniks. He's struggled at times this season with his footwork and consistency. Capers' quickness and athleticism is good for a tackle. He's an asset when he can move out on the move and block downfield.
Noel Devine, RB, West Virginia: Devine has been a highlight reel player since high school. Get him the ball and open space and he can make things happen. Devine has had lapses of ineffectiveness, especially in the receiving game, and struggles as a blocker. He's also really undersized, but his speed and quickness will get him a spot in the NFL.
Jarrett Brown, QB, West Virginia: In his first season as the Mountaineers' quarterback, Brown has been average. Many think Brown is simply a spread quarterback who can't make deep out passes and take the ball from under center. His arm strength is good, but he tends to sail passes high.
