Don't expect Donovan Warren back at Michigan

Apologies for overlooking this until now, but Michigan cornerback Donovan Warren is leaning toward entering the NFL Draft.

"I’m not saying one way or the other," Warren told the Detroit Free Press. "I’m definitely, I’d have to say heavily, I like the chances of me coming out."

On the year, Warren had 66 tackles, seven pass breakups and four interceptions. They are good stats, but Warren struggled at times this season. His playing speed get him beat by fast receivers and his agility is only ordinary for a cornerback.

Warren's high-point agility isn't the best and he can be beaten in the air. The picture with this post is of Wisconsin's Nick Toon, an above-average player. Toon rode up Warren's body to the high point and caught a touchdown pass on this play.

Where Warren is at his best is when he can be physical. He's good at jamming receivers at the line and can re-route smaller players. He's a dependable tackler and can help out against the run. Warren has even seen time at free safety, a position he may be able to hold up at in the NFL.

Warren has good size at a listed 6-foot and 185 pounds. Cornerbacks of Warren's size and skill generally don't last long in the draft, so don't be surprised if he's gone by the end of the second round.

Tate and Floyd owned him

But Warren wants to be in the pros

so?

He’s not gonna face Tate and Floyd and Clausen every game.

Give your team credit…..

Lesser talents in college have been made into good pros.

That’s why I don’t think he’s a top 15 pick like some mock drafts have him. A 2nd round pick, late second rounder or early third, is where he should go.

Yeah

But he is going to face the same or better talent than Floyd, Tate and Clausen every week.

still...

one game does not a season make.

If he’s a first rounder…its not cuz he’s horrible.

Actually they burned Cissoko a ton more in that game than Warren...

Donovan played decently well against them considering Michigan had no pass rush on a QB who is going to be a top-ten pick in all likelihood.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Depends on his offseason

I’ve seen him in the top 15..and I’ve seen him in the 3rd round.

Most of the time, you can’t go wrong with a Michigan corner tho.

2nd round sounds about right.

Indeed...

I don’t hear any complaints from Indy about Marlin Jackson or Cincy about Leon Hall…

you can even add Morgan Trent into that as well. Most people didn’t think he’d hang around nor make a good nickleback (as he never played any snaps there in college) but he has been playing really well and broken up countless passes on third down. His play has been really good and he has increasingly being asked to play man-coverage.

Leon Hall has been a brilliant pick, he is playing at probowl level at the moment.
