Florida safety Ahmad Black likely jumping to NFL
The father of Florida junior strong safety Ahmad Black said his son is likely to enter the NFL Draft following the Sugar Bowl.
Talking to Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun, Bruce Black said with 90 percent certainty that his son would go pro. The reason for it stems from Gators coach Urban Meyer not starting Black the first game of the season.
"I would let Ahmad stay if they would show him some respect," Bruce Black said. "I don’t think coach Urban Meyer respects my son."
Yikes.
Black finished second in tackles for the Gators with 65. He also had 2.5 tackles for a loss, a sack and an interception.
At 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, Black lacks the size typically required of a front line safety prospect. Black didn't start the first game of the season in favor of sophomore Will Hill, a player with first-round potential. Black looks to be a fourth-round player, at best.
But Bruce Black wasn't only talking about his son turning pro. He also said it was likely that offensive linemen Maurkice and Mike Pouncey will leave Florida early. So would junior running back Chris Rainey.

Wow, so UF is going to be in rebuilding mode next year for sure. No team can lose that much talent and not take some lumps

Bears suck, Cubs suck, Bulls suck, Illini suck, who would have thought the Blackhawks would be my best shot at a title.

They’ll still be damn good. If Meyer can switch his coaching philosophy a bit, John Brantley looks like a star. The defense will restock easily.

Yes they won’t fall of completely but BCS they won’t go. I think they’ll have a year like USC this year, not bad to most teams (Illinois) but for their standards bad. Brantley is going to have to find some new weapons Deonte Thompson will be back and Andre Dubose should be healthy but it won’t be the profilic offense of years past. Defensively they will always be stout but with loosing Charlie Strong who knows what the new DC (Dan McCarney?) philosophy will be.
I don’t think they’ll fall off the face of the earth but won’t be a BCS team next year.

I Actually Agree
With Ahmad Blacks father there. Black comes up with a game clinching interception in the National Championship, and you can’t start him the first game of the next season against a high school team?

Not when you have Will Hill and Major Wright two very good safety prospects. I would have done the same thing.
I could be wrong but isn’t that why Florida switched to the 3-3-5 to get all three safeties on the field? That seems to me like respect. We’re going to change our whole defense to get you on the field. Sounds like respect to me.

I would have if it was the Pounceys or Meyer saying it. Since it was a bitter father of another player, I held off.

Does he have the athleticism to be a CB/S tweener? (maybe even a little)

Do you think this guy.....
……gets drafted higher than round 6, I don’t. This is already a draft deep at safety position and there are always a few outstanding college corners who lack NFL speed who get drafted and converted.
This is going to be a case of pride being thicker than good sense.

a black was not even playing until d. monroe was injured last season
he does have a knack for being in the right place all the time and that makes up for any size problems. he reminds me of a teddy bruschi type, just a great football player, maybe doesn’t have prolific size, speed, or strength but is always in the right place regardless the situation and will lay the wood to you. and by the way, i thought that charlie strong was the man who would decide who started and who came off the bench on the defensive side of the ball. why is urban meyer being called out here? ol’ kiff must have sent them ut hostesses down to see mr black in the past few weeks.

I would take him in the 4th, maybe 4th depending on his speed
