Scouting report: D.J. Moore

D.J. Moore

5'10, 184 pounds | Vanderbilt | Cornberback

Strengths:
Moore is an aggressive cornerback who likes to mix it up with bigger receivers. Moore has displayed plus play recognition and reads routes nicely. Rarely bites on play action. Uses his smarts to adjust and anticipate properly in zone coverage. He has the speed and quickness to stay in man coverage. Closes on the ball quickly to make a play. Good hands. Also played some on offense during his career. Dangerous after the catch. Willing to support the run.

Weaknesses: At Vanderbilt, Moore wasn't asked to play in man coverage very often and will have to adjust. He's a little shorter than ideal. To make it against stronger NFL receivers, it's imperative that Moore adds muscle. Struggles at times jamming receivers at the line because of his lack of strength. Watches the quarterback for too long, losing track of the receiver. Will get overaggressive going for the interception and give up big plays. While he's a solid tackler, if he added strength he'd be very good for the position.

Final word:
It's unlikely that Moore could have improved his draft stock by returning for his senior season. Moore makes a lot of plays on the ball and will be able to start immediately at the next level. Had six interceptions each of the past two seasons and finished his career with 19 pass breakups. Thrown at much less in 2008. Has added versatility as a receiver and return man.

Round projection: 1
