Scouting report: Eugene Monroe

6’5, 312 pounds | Virginia | Offensive tackle

Strengths: Monroe looks like a prototypical left tackle with a tall, powerful frame and long arms. Quick off the snap, Monroe gets a good base to handle bull rushers. Dominates in the run game, easily neutralizing ends and tackles. Monroe possesses quick feet and has good agility. Moves around well behind the line of scrimmage. Does good job making the pocket bigger for the quarterback. Utilizes proper technique, keeping his hands inside an opponent's body. Plays consistently game in and game out.

Weaknesses: Has trouble from time to time against speed rushers going wide to the outside or quick to the inside. Could stand to add more weight to his frame. Monroe has a small, but troublesome, injury list that includes a dislocated kneecap and sprained knee. Has to utilize his hand punch better. Gets high in his stance when he's on the move. Not always aggressive and needs to maintain blocks longer. Isn't a mauler.

Final word: Watching Virginia tape in 2007 to see Branden Albert, Monroe really popped off the screen. Second-team All American as a senior. Played both tackle and guard. Started for three years at Virginia. In 2008, won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy for the ACC's best blocker. Will be able to start immediately in the NFL.
