Scouting report: Javon Ringer
Javon Ringer
5'9, 202 pounds | Michigan State | Running back
Strengths: Ringer is a strong back with a solid frame. Great technical runner. Keeps his shoulder square to the line of scrimmage at all times and tucks the ball well. He's used to carrying the load after totaling 390 carries his senior year. Great vision, which allows him to find a hole where most won't. Runs low to the ground. A better pass catcher than most running backs. Runs solid routes and can be considered an asset in the passing game. Known by coaches as a hard worker in the weight room.
Weaknesses: What might hold Ringer back at the next level is his general lack of top speed and quickness. Also doesn't have the size to get short yards. Needs to get stronger in his lower body to break tackles more consistently. Used mostly on sweeps and isn't always the most effective going between the tackles. Has some durability concerns and suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in 2006. Tore his ACL as a senior in high school. Missed spring practice his senior year because of a shoulder injury.
Final word: Ringer was an incredibly productive back at Michigan State, finishing with 4,398 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns. He's a good all-around back, which will assure him at least a spot as a complimentary back.
