Phil Loadholt
6’8, 338 pounds | Oklahoma | Offensive tackle
Strengths: A mountainous offensive tackle who is in surprisingly good shape for a man weighing more than 330 pounds. Could probably get bigger if he wanted to. Great kick slide that allows him to quickly take up a lot of space. Powerful drive blocker in the run game. Can neutralize bull rushes fairly easily due to his size and strength. Does a nice job extending his arms and pushing opponents out of a play.
Weaknesses: Not the quickest off the snap. Has a lot of trouble against speed rushers who are quick off the snap. Was dominated as a senior by Brian Orakpo of Texas. Has some trouble redirecting and sliding inside. Needs to continue developing his technique, particularly his hand placement. Suspended for a game as a senior due to an alleged offseason DWI.
Final word: Loadholt is an intimidating presence on the offensive line. A strong run blocker who can handle the strongest of defensive players. However, he lacks quickness and will likely have to convert to right tackle. Only played two years of top college ball after attending community college. Named an All American third team and first-team all-conference player as a senior.
