SB Nation Writers Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick #39

No. 39

JACKSONVILLE
JAGUARS

Pick by Big Cat Country

Brian Robiskie
Wide receiver

Ohio State

Big Cat Country blogger River City Rage is back up following the selection of B.J. Raji in round one.

Currently, the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers consist of an unproven Mike Walker, an established but inconsistent Dennis Northcutt, and the ever-present drops of Troy Williamson. Torry Holt visited the team to add a veteran threat, but left without a contract. When the Jaguars get to the second round, should a receiver like Brian Robiskie be on the board, the needs at the position, in my opinion, require the Jaguars to make the pick and move on from the error-filled days of Reggie Williams, Matt Jones and Jerry Porter. The pick here fills a need and is close to BAP.

MTD thoughts: There might be a couple wide receivers more highly ranked (and talented) than Robiskie, but this is a good choice. Robiskie has proven hands and is a good route runner. That's something Jacksonville hasn't had since Jimmy Smith.

I hate it

Robiskie is my ideal pick for Indy in the second round.

I got Summer hatin' on me cuz I'm hotter than the sun. Spring hatin' on me cuz I ain't never sprung
Winter hatin' on me cuz I'm colder than Y'all. And I will never, I will never, I will never Fall.

I don't like it either

but I’m a Jaguar fan. I just don’t see the upside for Robiskie. He’ll be a good receiver in the league and probably early in his career, but I just don’t see how he’ll ever become a number one guy. I would’ve much preferred to see Alphonso Smith taken and I would’ve absolutely loved to see Josh Freeman taken.

Why do u all want a QB when u have garrard

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Apr 10, 2009 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Believe me, we don't

We just want the best value for the pick, regardless of position. I, as well as most other Jaguar fans, want to trade down out of the #8 spot and get as many picks as possible. I just think Freeman and Smith have more value than Robiskie.

As for the QB position, Garrard is the guy and no one is saying he isn’t. However, he’s 31 and was hit more than anyone in the NFL last year. The backup is Cleo Lemon. The Jaguars need to start grooming a guy to take over the job for the future. Freeman is the absolute perfect guy for the Jaguars. He’s got the size and talent, all he needs is some coaching and time to learn a pro offense behind a veteran. I don’t like the Sanchez or Stafford pick at 8 because they’ll be making too much money to be sitting on the bench. The Jaguars will probably have to rush them into a starting role and not allow them to fully acclimate themselves to the pro game.

Mock Drafts

I love mock drafts, but if Freeman and Pettigrew make it out of the first round (I wouldn’t be surprised if Freeman is gone by 20) I’ll be shocked.

QB's drop

If you look at the last several drafts, QB’s (even the top tier ones) tend to drop on draft day a lot farther than most casual fans (read: mock drafts) would predict. Aaron Rogers, Brady Quinn, etc. And quite frankly, even guys like Rogers & Quinn were ranked higher as NFL QB prospects than any of the QB’s in this year’s draft, all of whom have either flaws or reasons to be seriously concerned about them. In light of that, I would not at all be surprised to see Freeman drop into the 2nd round. I also think it’s hogwash to think that both Stafford and Sanchez go in the first dozen picks (like most mocks seem to indicate). Not gonna happen, mark my words.

I dont get why youd take Robiskie over Britt

Britt

Is too much like Reggie Williams. Us Jags fans don’t want to see a relapse of that.

co-sign

Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did
