Scouting report: Cedric Peerman
Cedric Peerman
5'9, 208 pounds | Running back | Virginia
Strengths: Peerman is a strong runner who has good top-end speed, once he reaches it. He is good between the tackles due in large part to excellent vision and instincts to understand where a hole is going to open up. Keeps his legs pumping. Very good receiver as a running back. Had 44 receptions as a senior. Decent as a pass blocker, but is mostly a mirror blocker.
Weaknesses: Peerman struggles at times due to a lack of quickness. He doesn't explode after the handoff and can routinely get caught in the backfield. In the open field, he doesn't have great elusiveness or agility. Some injury concerns. Not very experienced.
Final word: Peerman started for just a year and half at Virginia. His 2007 season was cut short due to a foot injury that required surgery. He's not the shiftiest back, but he has some good skills. What differentiates him from other second-day backs is his ability as a receiver. Should be a quality backup who has the toughness to contribute in some regard on special teams.
