Scouting report: Louis Murphy
Louis Murphy
6'2, 205 pounds | Florida | Wide receiver
Strengths: Murphy has NFL size and strength, which he used at Florida to get open. Has great timed speed and is solid deep target. Shows great suddenness to get off the line. A good athlete. Shows excellent jumping ability. Can catch high passes and get his feet inbounds. Works hard as a blocker.
Weaknesses: A lack of agility and change-of-direction ability is what holds Murphy back the most. He gets little yards after the catch, which makes you think he's more of a possession receiver than anything else. Route running is fairly poor. Will need to be coached on how to run routes with rounding them off. Not sudden in his cuts. Comes from a spread. Had some serious work ethic issues early in his career, so you have to wonder how he'll do with an NFL paycheck.
Final word: At this point in his development, Murphy is much more of an athlete than football player. He has some good tools, which warrant a high ranking, but he'll need to be coached up in a lot of areas of the game. Was never a top target for the Gators. Has good upside if a team is willing to be patient.
