Scouting report: James Casey
James Casey
6'4, 235 pounds | Rice | Tight end
Strengths: Casey is very reminiscent to Redskins tight end/h-back Chris Cooley. He has excellent athleticism for the position and showed the ability to make difficult catches look easy. Good, but not great, speed for the position. Showed the ability to get good yards after the catch.
Weaknesses: Only played two years of competitive college football after playing baseball. For a tight end, Casey is lacking in bulk and strength. This limits his ability as an in-line blocker. Sort of a man without a position. Needs to become more explosive in his cuts to make his route running better.
Final word: After playing baseball for three years in the Chicago White Sox's farm system, Casey returned to football in 2007. Casey had a stellar 2008, in which he finished with 111 receptions for 1,329 yards and 13 touchdowns. Has had a great offseason where his athletic tools could be on display. However, he's still learning as a football player and will only be a receiver early in his career.
Round projection: 3
