SB Nation Writers Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick #63
![]() |
![]() No. 63 |
ARIZONA |
Following the excellent selection of Chris Wells in the first round, Revenge of the Birds blogger cgolden is back up.
Last year the Cardinals made a surprising pick in the fifth round and took a little known running back from Richmond. This year they hope lightening strikes twice as they go back to Richmond and select Tim Hightower's former room mate, Lawrence Sidbury Jr. Coming into the draft the Cardinals had two big needs, a running back and improving the pass rush. The first round selection of Chris "Beanie" Wells took care of the former and Sidbury shores up the latter. He will have to learn how to play with his hand off the ground and how to play in space but his athletic ability suggest he'll be able to make the transition.
Given the depth at OLB currently, Sidbury won't be forced into early action and might not have much of an impact at all his rookie season, outside of special teams, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. A year learning his new responsibilities and refining his skill set should get him ready for a starting role once guys like Chike Okeafor and Bertrand Berry are gone.
MTD thoughts: Perfect drafting by cgolden. If Arizona follows a similar blueprint, there's no reason to doubt that the team will make it back to the playoffs this season.
Mocking the Draft's Top Five Remaining Prospects - QB Josh Freeman, RB Shonn Greene, CB Victor Harris, RB Javon Ringer, C Jonathan Luigs

Damn Wells at 63????
I can’t see that happening. I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree here. I thought Wells was a top 20 guy? Is there a reason he’s not picked yet?
It's true what they say...Even the NFL's Big Wigs hate the Steelers. On the plus side, I can now tell my future grand kids about Hines Ward and how the NFL made rules because of him. Roger Goodell, you make me sick.

Just curious.
