Is offensive tackle the right pick or the safe pick for St. Louis?

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch raises that question today. He contests that while defensive end Chris Long should be a good player, he was a safe pick last year over defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey and quarterback Matt Ryan.

Would the Rams simply be settling on the safe pick by taking either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe, both offensive tackles?

The answer to that question is both. Taking an offensive tackle is both the right pick and the safe pick.

But, could it be possible that St. Louis makes a daring pick and takes linebacker Aaron Curry? It's not above the realm of possibility.

"Curry was the first guy we put (tape) on, and we were like, 'Wow! This guy is special.,'" Rams general maager Billy Devaney told the Post-Dispatch early in the draft process. "He is really good on tape. And then we started talking about the intangibles, and to a man, everybody said he's top of the line."

The Rams do need as much help as possible on the back seven of the defense, so a spot for Curry could be found. The team's new coach, Steve Spagnuolo, is also a defensive-minded coach and could look to add to the talent on that side of the ball.

Still, I epxect St. Louis to take either Monroe or Smith and find help on defense later in the draft.
