Team-by-team day two thoughts on the NFC draft picks

• To me, Dallas had an awful draft. Jason Williams could be a decent pass rusher and Stephen McGee will allow them to run some trick plays. Robert Brewster is a developmental tackle, Victor Butler seems like a special teams player and Michael Hamlin mirrors Roy Williams, who was cut. Mike Mickens was a good pick in round seven.

• It's a little hard to judge the Giants because the team was drafting for depth after filling the need for wide receiver. The team got a lot of talent which should continue it's run of playoff appearances. Ramses Barden should be an immediate factor in the red zone. Andre Brown was a nice third running back pickup.

• The Eagles continued to get weapons for Donovan McNabb in tight end Cornelius Ingram and wide receiver Brandon Gibson. If either Fenuki Tupou or Paul Fanaika can become a decent player on the offensive, this is a great draft.

Star-divide

• After taking Kevin Barnes in the third round, Washington took several backups, including two linebackers.

• After having no first day selections, the Bears did a nice job adding quality players. Jarron Gilbert is a playmaker on the defensive line, D.J. Moore had good value and Marcus Freeman could eventually crack the starting lineup. Henry Melton was a bit of a questionable selection, but overall the Bears probably did about as good they could've hoped.

• So much for thinking Detroit was beginning to turn its franchise around. After quarterback, the team clearly needed a left tackle and middle linebacker. Neither was added. Very poor second day for Detroit.

• Green Bay did a good job addressing depth on the offensive line by taking T.J. Lang and Jamon Meredith. It wouldn't be a surprise if one or both became a starter. Quinn Johnson was arguably the best blocking fullback in the draft and Brandon Underwood is a solid cornerback prospect.

• While Minnesota didn't have many picks (three), they made the most of them. Cornerback Asher Allen and middle linebacker Jasper Brinkley could both be starters.

• The Falcons reached on cornerbacks Chris Owens and William Middleton, but otherwise had a nice second day. Lawrence Sidbury could be a good pass rush specialist and Vance Walker is a good plugger in the middle of the defensive line.

• Carolina made some good choices on day two with Duke Robinson in round five and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn in round seven. Corvey Irvin fills a depth need and Mike Goodson is a talented running back.

• Pretty boring second day for the Saints. Two Wake Forest players in Chip Vaughn and Stanley Arnoux. Vaughn could develop into a starter.

• Tampa Bay did a nice job on day two taking Roy Miller and Kyle Moore to help on the defensive line. Edjuan Biggers seemed like the cornerback from Western Michigan as Londen Fryar would have been a better choice.

• Arizona added two potential starters on day two in safety Rashad Johnson and guard Herman Johnson. Will Davis is a serviceable player at defensive end and Greg Toler is certainly an athletic cornerback.

• The Rams were able to fill their needs on the second day, especially by picking defensive tackle Dorell Scott. Bradley Fletcher was a bit of a reach at cornerback, though.

• The 49ers had an excellent second day. Scott McKillop is a great foil to Patrick Willis at middle linebacker. Nate Davis could challenge for the starting quarterback job and Bear Pascoe is an excellent blocking tight end.

• Seattle's second day didn't really come close to equaling the team's first day. Deon Butler figures to be a good slot receiver and Cameron Morrah has some upside at tight end. The other three picks -- safety Courtney Greene, quarterback Mike Teel and defensive end/outside linebacker Nick Reed -- are backups at best.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on Owens

It may have been a bit of a reach, but I think he’s a dynamic cornerback.

I'm not a seahawks fan.

It’s just there was no writeup for them earlier. It’s up now.
