Finally, My Mock Draft

OK, so after a last minute complete redo of my mock draft, I am finally done. Please ask or comment on any of the picks, BUT NOT THE TEAM ORDER! If you say something like, "Why are the Colts 15th, idiot?" then I will ignore you. And if you hate my mock, try making your own.

Star-divide

1. St. Louis Rams- Sam Bradford I dont think Spagnuolo is a bad coach but the Rams have very little talent. Bulger isnt the future, so a QB is a good place to start. Bradford is an accurate passer that throws great on the run, which is important with St. Louis's bad O-line.

2. Oakland Raiders- Carlos Dunlap Al Davis likes freak athletes. Dunlap is a freak athlete( 6-6 290, 4.6 40 yd dash). I doubt Mays will run under a 4.40 and since he cant cover, I see him as only a SS in the NFL, and since the Raiders drafted Mitchell last year, I dont think Mays will be picked here.

3. Detroit Lions- Russell Okung Hey! At least this should mean they win at least a game. The lions need some protection for their 48-million dollar investment. Okung is a very strong lineman with good footwork and a great frame.

4. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver)- Eric Berry Safeties as good as Berry dont come around too often, and Seattle isnt afraid to draft for value(like aaron curry), especially since they have another pick in the first round.

5. Cincinnatti Bengals- Ndamukong Suh Suh is just a monster. I cant think of anything he cant do. He will really help the Bengal's defensive line, and the Bengals are the only team in the AFC North without a great DT.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars- Dez Bryant Dez Bryant to me is like a Michael Crabtree that wouldnt holdout. Torry Holt is old, and other than him  I dont see anyone on the Jaguars that could be a #1 receiver.

7. Buffalo Bills- Bryan Baluga The bills will miss Jason Peters, who was their best lineman by far. The bills need to protect Edwards much better, and Baluga is a very good tackle.

8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Gerald McCoy McCoy has shown that he is dominant in just his first 2 seasons at Oklahoma. He also fills a need for the Bucs.

9. Kansas City Chiefs- Jonathan Dwyer

10. Washington Redskins- Jevan Snead If Jason Campbell ends up doing solid-to-good, then I think he will be gone and sign with Tennessee. If he does stay with the Redskins, then I think that will mean he isnt a franchise guy. Jevan Snead is one of the few QBs in this draft that doesnt come from a spread offense, so he could be viewed as less risky.

11. Seattle Seahawks- Colt McCoy

12. Cleveland Browns- Sergio Kindle

13. San Francisco Forty-Niners- Terrence Cody

14. New York Jets- Arrelious Benn

15. Green Bay Packers- Jahvid Best

16. Dallas Cowboys- Taylor Mays

17. Indianapolis Colts- Brandon Spikes

18. New Orleans Saints- Greg Hardy

19. New York Giants- Jermaine Gresham

20. Houston Texans- Joe Haden

21. Philadelphia Eagles- Sean Weatherspoon

22. Minnesota Vikings- Trevard Linley

23. Baltimore Ravens- Brandon LaFell

24. Miami Dolphins- Rolando McClain

25. Atlanta Falcons- Ciron Black

26. Denver Broncos(from Chicago)- Jerry Hughes

27. Arizona Cardinals- George Selvie

28. Pittsburgh Steelers- Trent Williams

29. San Diego Chargers- Mardy Gilyard

30. New England Patriots- CJ Spiller

31. San Francisco 49ers( from Carolina)- Tim Tebow

32. Tennessee Titans- Corey Wooton

Niners

For the Niners I like Terrance Cody, though perhaps not that high. Tebow I don’t like right now, especially as a first rounder. I’d rather go with Snead if he’s available. If he’s not (as in this mock) then I’d hope to go O-line or DB.

by Brendan Scolari on Aug 27, 2009 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

I like most of the top 10 picks though

Except I can’’t see Pioli picking a RB that high, especially with Jamaal Charles already in the fold. I also think the Raiders would take Mays or Berry but Dunlap is a good pick for them.

by Brendan Scolari on Aug 27, 2009 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Why I gave you all Tebow

1. You all already got Cody, and you have a second rounder, so why not take a risk?
2. Singletary likes players with a winner’s mentality. Who has a better mentality than Tebow?
3. I think Tebow would be a pretty good fit in you offense.
4. You need a QB

I understand your reasoning

but O-line and safety are much bigger needs for us, plus receiver if Crabtree doesn’t come to his senses and sign.

Broncos.

Interesting pick for the Broncos at #26. I’ll admit to knowing little about Hughes outside of his stats and some swallow scouting reports (i.e. I haven’t seen him for myself) but it seems like a reasonable pick. There are some potentially interesting 3-4 DE types (Arthur Jones of Syracuse, Vince Oghobasse of Duke and Corey Wooton of Northwestern) that I’d be interested in at that spot.

Arthur Jones and Vince O are mid second round guys IMO. But then again McDaniels wasnt afraid to reach this year.

Overall.

I appreciate that you seem to have broken from the popular concensus with your player rankings and playoff predictions, even if I don’t agree. I’ll avoid commenting on the picking order because that’s a tangent that has sidetracked this site far too much this offseason/preseason. Most of the draft really falls into place nicely for you and I can only think of a couple of picks that just don’t feel right (Spikes to the Colts and Spiller to the Pats). All in all, I’m actually quite impressed. I suppose Syd’Quan Thompson is the most noticeable snub, but that’s perfectly acceptable I think. Nice job, BQiB.

Thank you. I agree that those picks didnt feel entirely right, but they werent that bad of picks for either team

good mock

I’m a Chiefs fan, and can’t see Pioli taking a running back in the 1st next year. Terrence Cody or Arrelious Benn would be more likely selections per your mock.

Very nice work.

by chrisclark_dfw on Aug 27, 2009 9:58 PM EDT reply actions

Thank You. I dont see Larry Johnson being there after this year and Jamaal Charles cant be a feature back so that is why I think Dwyer will make sense.

We'll see

Your reasoning is sound.

Before the offseason, I don’t think any KC fan thought LJ would still be here this year, much less next year. However, LJ really appears to have turned the corner. He is doing/saying all the right things.

by chrisclark_dfw on Aug 27, 2009 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I see what you're saying..

But as someone who writes about the Chiefs, RB in the first round is out of the question.

LJ seems to like this new regime, and will be here next year, and even if he were traded, Jamaal Charles and Jackie Battle would split the running duties, along with Dantrell Savage. This league is going in that direction anyway.

MUCH more likely is the drafting of the BPA of the following positions: WR, OT, OLB, which, by the players available in your mock, is probably Arrelious Benn. Kindle would be considered there also.

Personally I hope Dez Bryant is available.
That, OR the rest of the NFL undervalues Dezmon Briscoe WR, KU, and the Chiefs can nab him in the second round if he comes out. He’s the third best WR coming out this year, and is not that far behind Bryant or Benn. Briscoe only is slightly lacking the speed of the others – that’s it.

by KU2010 on Sep 25, 2009 2:28 AM EDT up reply actions

You really would be content with Chales starting? and Ive never even heard of Jackie Battle

by TheRealSlimShady on Sep 25, 2009 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont see the Chiefs taking another Defensive lineman

by TheRealSlimShady on Sep 25, 2009 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

THE COLTS WON'T BE DRAFTING 17TH YOU MORON11!!!!111!!1!

kidding, (well about the all caps, moron and ignoring your instructions point)

MLB is a very possible pick for Indy with Gary Brackett a 30 year old free agent next year and no backup/replacement in sight

BUT, since we did the team needs talks the Colts LT situation has started to look even worse. Ugoh was demoted in favor of a more consistent but not anywhere close to as talented lineman. I guess they’d rather adjust for a consistent weakness than leave Ugoh on an island and deal with him randomly blowing protections.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

OK fair enough. I just dont see them being as good without Dungy

" Of course Steroids should be allowed! I wanna see 700 foot home runs and 90 yard field goals! I litterally want to see someone's d**k get shoved in the dirt!"

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 27, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

If there is a decline without Dungy it'll probably be delayed

his main strength was being an amazing teacher to the young players. That effect will linger for a good amount of time. Remember the last team Dungy left won the superbowl the next year before beginning a slow decline.

The colts are looking better than 17th so far.

If the Giants pick there (IF)

Gresham is NOT the pick. He’s a good player, but the TE is simply not a focus for a Coughlin O (unless something changes this year). We also drafted Beckum, so no need for another TE

McClain would be ideal, MLB probably will be a need in teh offseason if Pierce slows any more (well, if he slows anymore he’ll be running in reverse).

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 28, 2009 11:32 PM EDT reply actions

Gresham could help the Giants weak passing game

" Of course Steroids should be allowed! I wanna see 700 foot home runs and 90 yard field goals! I litterally want to see someone's d**k get shoved in the dirt!"

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Aug 29, 2009 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions

He could

well,…we don’t know that’s all that weak just yet.

ANd like I said, Coughlin doesn’t use the TE that much, or else he’d put with Shockey or use Kevin Boss more.

And he still might use Boss more, cuz the season didn’t start yet.

Bottom line, unless Gresham falls in the draft, there’s not reason to grab him no matter where the Giants pick. If the Giants draft a TE it will be in the later rounds. And that’s a big IF.

I'd be happy with Selvie

He’s a horse and would be a very nice fit with the Cardinals.

Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

by Bezekira on Aug 31, 2009 1:10 PM EDT reply actions

Gilyard doesn’t seem like a first-round player to me. He doesn’t seem like a No. 1 guy. Same with Jerry Hughes.

I understand why you have New England taking Spiller, but they really do poorly taking offensive skill players in the draft. Only Tom Brady, who was a fluke, was a really good pick this decade. Deion Branch was decent for them, I guess.

Also not sure about Philly taking a linebacker who’s not much of a pass rusher. Otherwise, pretty good stuff.

by Mocking Dan on Sep 2, 2009 11:11 PM EDT reply actions

What makes Brady a Fluke?

I’d be willing to bet when New England took Brady, and Drew Bledsoe was still there, they expected very little from him. Fluke, anomaly, you pick the word.

Matt cassel

by BradyQuinnisBeast on Sep 4, 2009 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Yup.

Brady and Cassel were very talented QB’s who somehow got beaten out at their programs…which are BIG TIME programs.

Look at Aaron Corp, a big time recruit who may not ever play at USC (maybe he’ll transfer…I don’t know).

But Corp is very talented and I would not be surprised if he is drafted by the Patriots that he becomes the next Cassel.

The fact that they ONLY picked him up because he was taller than Ken Dorsey. That’s it. Height.

That’s a fluke

Bills

The scuttlebutt in Buffalo is that Demetrius Bell, last year’s seventh rounder, is on pace to take over the starting left tackle position at any point this season. If that is the case, don’t look for the Bills to take a tackle.

Bills needs – LB, DE, QB possibly, CB possibly

4. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver)- Eric Berry

Alphonso Smith for Eric Berry… somewhere Herschel Walker is laughing about what a stupid move that trade turned out to be.

Yea I never thought of it that way. Thats why should never trade first rounders for second rounders.

the broncos could do considerably better than the 4th pick (they wont but stick with me here) and this is still a trade that will look horrible next spring.

Just look at the names that might be available past 15… jahvid best, gresham, weatherspoon

It will be interesting to hear what people say in 10 years' time.

Especially if that 1st rounder doesn’t pan out (because, you know, all 1st round picks are sure-fire HoF’ers).

I think it could be one of the below scenarios:

Trade down and go BAP
Take Mccoy, or Suh
Go Bap at whatever pick we land
