Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Michael Crabtree

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter Micheal Crabtree will sit out this year in the hope of being a higher darft pick next year.  This raises the question for me of wheather or not this is going to benefit him or if  he will as I believe not even be the number 1 reciever next year.

What are your thoughts?  Will Crabtree be a higher pick then this year and/or will he be the number 1 reciever taken?

Crab wont be a first round pick if he goes in 2010. Everyone will know that he wont sign a reasonable contract

agreed...

Just makes no sense… He isnt signing this contract (as the 10th pick) because he wants 3rd pick money. So wait until next year where he is not only chasing that same money but now trying to make up for a lost year salary as well (and being that much further from URFA and his 2nd contract).

I dont want to say the NFL owners would collude against him but… no owner wants to start the precedent of breaking the salary/draft# scale and/or showing other players that they can be rewarded for sitting out a year

i dont think he will be a first rounder

i really want texans to try and get him next year….use a 2nd or 3rd…tho with dunta, owen, and demeco and prolly slaton aj and mario needing extensions, we need to adress those guys first

Regarding the SF situation

Remember, the 49ers hold the rights to him all the way up to draft day, even if he continues to hold out all the way up until then.

If Dez Bryant stays healthy, I can’t imagine he goes first.

Who would trade for his rights when they know that they can probably get him for next to nothing in the draft.

you are crazy if… you think crabtree is going to be a high 1st round pick

you are even crazier if…. you think crabtree (diva issues and all) will fall later than the 2nd/3rd round

you are INSANE if… you think a 2nd/3rd round pick is worth “next to nothing”

by dt3 on Sep 16, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

By next to nothing I meant that taking him with your own pick in the draft is next to nothing when compared to the task of trying to sign him after a trade, where you would be forced to give up probably 2 or more picks, prior to the draft.

I would be Crabtree is drafted late in the first round next year.

I think there's a chance some team drafts him with a first rounder next year

but I doubt any top 10 team will draft him. We saw what happened when Mike Williams didn’t play for a year too.

Arrelious Benn and Dez Bryant may have given Crabtree a run for the “top spot” this year.

Why the hell would any team draft this guy in round one tho? Who the hell want’s this prima donna on their roster? Its not even like he’s a TO or Chad Johnson, he hasn’t done squat.

It's not a sure thing yet

There’s some talk that he is still considering signing, but it doesn’t look good right now.

Agree with those who don't think he'd be a high first round pick

I believe that the last time a guy sat out a year like this is was Bo Jackson, who just didn’t want to play on the team that drafted him. Unlike Crabtree, he didn’t have any injury concerns. That surgery kept Crabtree from working out at all this year. He won’t be allowed to work out next year because the 49ers will have his rights up to draft day. No way will he be a top 10 pick next year after this.

He probably won’t go in the 2nd round, but he won’t be the first WR taken.

I just think its a possibility

he’d be way out of playing shape, even if he stays fit it would still be over a year since he played in a an actual game, he clearly only cares about the money, all of this factors into a big fall for Crabtree

i think there would be the chance that a team with 2 first rounders

or one that gets 2 first rounders, takes a chance.

I can’t see them doing it cuz of their past with WR who try their hardest to prove they are ignorant grown men, the Giants, but I could in theory see them taking a shot on him cuz of his talent.

Either way, Crabtree is a moron who I think should be allowed to get guaranteed 1st round dollars next year.

Anyone on this site think to highly of a guy leaving $20 million guaranteed on the table?
And its cuz a site liek Mocking the draft said he’s supposed to be drafted by another team?
