They Are Who We Thought They Were!!
This list of players is players I feel I had a good awareness of (you probably did too).
Most are well know prospects that have first round talent.
These are prospects I would consider "Even", based on how they were being evaluated before the season started. The end of this week I will post my Up/Down lists.
Eric Berry- My Mock Draft- #2 to the Browns
Tennessee- Safety
NFL Comparisons- Ed Reed- Darren Sharper
The nation’s best defensive back has been impressive so far this season. Berry has racked up 21 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, and a pick in his last two games. He has lined up all over the field, and with opposing teams looking for him before every play, has still managed to be a big time player. There isn’t a defensive player in the nation that matches his mix of athleticism and football intelligence. There is a great chance he repeats as the SEC’s Defensive player of the year and lands in the top 5 in 2010’s NFL Draft.
Jahvid Best- My Mock Draft- #12 to the Chiefs
Cal - Running Back
NFL Comparisons- Steve Slaton- Chris Johnson
The electric homerun hitter has done nothing to hurt his Heisman campaign. With unbelievable explosion and great vision, Best has tallied up an impressive 471 yards of offense in his first three games. In my opinion, there is no running back in the nation that has the vision and explosion he does. There are backs that may challenge one or the other, but no one cuts and accelerates the way Best does. He will be the first back off the board in 2010.
As I have said before, if you haven’t seen this guy play, you really need to watch the next Cal game. The USC game should be very interesting.
Dez Bryant- My Mock draft- #9 to the Redskins
Oklahoma State- Wide Receiver
NFL Comparisons- Dwayne Bowe- Greg Jennings
Even though his team was overrated, Bryant has been anything but. Despite being doubled teamed most of the time, Bryant has caught 17 balls for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also had an 82 yard punt return for a touchdown. There are going to be several teams in the top 10 in need of a wide receiver. Even if Michael Crabtree is in the 2010 draft class, my number one receiver is Bryant. He has more speed and athletic ability.
Explosive Junior Running Backs
These guys are quick and exciting, but have been extremely unimpressive at times. The inconsistent play has led me to believe these players should be 2nd and possibly 3rd round draft picks in 2010 (if they leave early).
C.J. Spiller
Clemson - Running back
NFL Comparison- Leon Washington
Spiller is a blazer and a threat to take it to the house each time he touches the ball. That being said, his longest run of the year is only 25 yards. With James Davis gone, most expected Spiller to light up the stats sheets each week. He hasn’t done that in the running game, but does have a 65 yard receiving touchdown, 77 yard punt return touchdown, and a 96 yard kick return touchdown. He is a dynamic player that shows up on highlight reels, but I want to see more from him in the running game if I’m going to leave him in my first round mock.
DeMarco Murray
Oklahoma - Running back
NFL Comparison- Jamaal Charles
Murray has shown some flashes of his elite ability this season, but I am still skeptical of his every down potential. He is a hard player to evaluate, due to his lack of touches. He has had two games with just 10 carriers, and one with 12. I was expecting to see him take over the BYU game when Bradford went down, but he finished the game with just 58 yards on the ground. I have to see more from him down the stretch.
I will be watching him very close during the Miami game Oct. 3.
Joe McKnight
USC - Running back
NFL Comparison- Reggie Bush
McKnight has been inconsistent since he started his college career at USC. At times he looks like a Heisman hopeful and other times looks like he is the least talented of USC’s loaded backfield. He has two 100 yard games this season and has a nice 7.4 yard per carry, but I wonder why he hasn’t separated himself from the others in the USC backfield. He came in as the next "Reggie Bush", but his production hasn’t even been comparable. So far he has shown flashes and some great highlights, but has yet to prove he is an every down back.
Noel Devine
West Virginia - Running back
NFL Comparison- Darren Sproles
Out of every back on this list, Devine has been the most consistent this season. He is a game changer with unbelievable acceleration. Devine has started the 2010 campaign very nicely with 320 yards and 5 touchdowns. He already has more touchdowns than last season, but West Virginia’s entire 2009 schedule is weak. It will be interesting to see if Devine can impress each week.
Graig Cooper
Miami - Running back
NFL Comparison- Jerious Norwood
Deservingly so, Copper has been overshadowed by Miami’s sophomore QB Jacory Harris. Copper splits carries with Javarris James, but has managed to make a nice impression both on offense and in the return game. In Miami’s big wins over FSU and Georgia Tech, Copper has averaged over 5 yards a carry, 11 yards a reception and 34 yards on kick returns. If Miami continues to rise in the polls, Copper will be a big reason why.

This is really what Cal fans expected from Jahvid. It’s great though to see the rest of the country take notice.
Also I would like Kendall Hunter on my team. He reminds me of Emmitt Smith when he is running.
I still believe in Ryan Garko...........

Kendall Hunter looked pathetic against Georgia.

Joe McKnight = Reggie Bush.
except he can’t hold onto the ball.
Too bad he probably comes out in 2011, cuz the Raiders don’t have a first rounder and would have drafted him.
Eric Berry might just go #1 overall, depending on who’s picking there. After watching him in on damn near every play to hold Florida to 23 points, he’s that good.
I think the Jahvid Best comparisons to Slaton and Johnson do him Zero justice. Those 2 are good, but I think you gotta say Marshall Faulk when talking about Best.
He’s got that nose for the end zone like Faulk and Faulk’s hands too.

I agree with your analysis on both backs. Best is a stud, McKnight is a wannabe

I agree Berry could be the first safety in NFL history to go number one, based on the players in the 2010 draft. In my opinion there is not a QB or OT worthy of the number one pick. He can step in and immediately upgrade a defense.
I disagree on the Best-Faulk comparison. Faulk was able to line up as a receiver and run sharp routes and work the slot position. I agree Best has good hands, but I don’t see him catching 80 balls a season. I think their vision and field awareness is similar, but Faulk did not have the speed Best does, and Best doesn’t strike me near as versatile in the passing game.

Best has lined up at receiver some this year, but his QB just isnt accurate.

I get what you’re saying but just because a running back lines up as a receiver does make them. Faulk ran routes like he was playing receiver his whole life.

Well...
and Best doesn’t strike me near as versatile in the passing game.
that’s just wrong. Best is an extremely good receiver and does line up all over the field.
His QB is quite ass tho. Can’t even hit him out of the backfield.
Best is goind to be a Faulk type player in the league. That’s a lofty expectation cuz Faulk was one of the best, but Best has that type of talent.

He is a good recevier, and does line up in different spots…. I think you are forgetting how incredible Faulk’s numbers were as a receiver tho.
(I’m a big stats guy)
Rec 767
Rec yards 6815
Rec TD 36
I agree Best can do some great things out of the back field…But he will not even come close to touching Faulk’s receiving stats.
Best will be a 40-50 rec’s player in the NFL…(09’ numbers Slaton 50, Johnson 43)

depends on the offense.
Remember, Faulk played with the Greatest Show on Turf and also the year he had 80+ catches with the Colts, he had that Manning guy.
Playing with a great QB who’s gonna dump it off to a RB that caliber, that’s why he had so many catches.
It matters where he plays, the offense, and who he plays with.
Should Best get drafted by say….the Falcons and play most of his career with Matt Ryan in the Georgia dome or something like that, he could do it too.
He’s definitely a Faulk or even a Westbrook type of player.

I like most of your comparisons, but DeMarco Murray deserves more credit than what you are giving him.
BTW Im surprised you dont have Jimmy Clausen up there.

Marshall Mathers
I like Murray…he is exciting, but I don’t think he is going to do much in the NFL.
Why do you think he is?
Clausen has been unreal so far, and I won’t be surprised if he is the top rated QB on most boards (due to a weak QB class…Yeah…weak… I said it).

I doubt Clausen will go pro, though. I think he wants to win a championship
by TheRealSlimShady on Sep 24, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
which is why he will go pro....
cuz Weiss is getting fired when they don’t get to a bowl game this year.
Not that its Clausen’s fault. He comes out, he’ll be battling it out with the other QB’s at the top of the draft.
Not even Snead have Clausen’s overal combination of talent. Clausen is much better than Brady Quinn coming out, not saying much, but Clausen is legit and if the team picking #1 has any brains, they’ll draft him.

That not getting to a bowl game stuff is bullshit. ND is actually a good team and they will make a good bowl, if not a BCS one.

well...
they’re not even ranked right now….bullshit you say? I say you’re a homer.
They beat UW and USC, then they have a chance.
Lose to those 2, they get a BCS bowl, THAT is bullshit.

I think he goes this is his time. With the injuries to Bradford and Gresham I think alot of prospects will think extra long about coming out.
Five million dollar insurance policy is nice but a guarenteed money from an NFL team is even better.
By the way MBoz CJ Spiller is a senior.

Berry has impressed
I like him alot as a Top 10, Top 5 potential draft pick. Any team that drafts him gets an automatic boost to their D.
