Raiders trade 2011 first-round pick for Seymour
In a rare move, the Raiders have traded their first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to the Patriots for defensive tackle/end Richard Seymour.
Seymour, 29, was the sixth overall pick in the 2001 draft.
This is not the first time Oakland and New England have swapped a player for a future draft pick. The Raiders traded defensive end Derrick Burgess to the Patriots for a third- and fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Trading and trading for picks is common practice for the Patriots. In addition the team has acquired two second-round picks as well as selections in the fifth and seventh rounds of the 2010 draft.
This is a savvy move by the Patriots. Seymour is a free agent after this season and New England was able to maximize his value. The team also selected Ron Brace and Myron Pryor in this year's draft. And if Oakland plays as it usually does, this will be a top 10 pick.
