Al Davis' ears perk up; Carlos Dunlap officially in the draft

For Oakland Raiders undead overlord Al Davis, the draft season has officially begun – Florida junior defensive end is officially in the NFL Draft.

The Al Davis jokes are appropriate. Dunlap is the type of athletic underachiever that Davis covets, be it Darrius Heyward-Bey, Michael Huff or JaMarcus Russell.

Dunlap fits the Davis bill because he's a 6-foot-6, 290-pound pass rusher. He reportedly has a 40-yard dash time of 4.63 seconds. Dunlap had nine sacks this season, and has 19.5 for his career.

"This took a lot of thought and prayer between me and my family, and we decided that this was the best direction for me to take," Dunlap said during a news conference today. "I’ve loved having the chance to play at Florida for Coach [Urban] Meyer, and playing for Coach Charlie Strong. I wouldn’t be the person or the player I am today without them and the other coaches who have helped me along the way."

Dunlap was suspended for the SEC championship game after being charged with a DUI.

Junior center Maurkice Pouncey also announced that was entering the draft. His brother, Mike, opted to return to school to move over to center. (That was something I suggested recently. So, toot toot, you know?)

Nah

He’s not so much a hybrid as he is a 3-4 five technique.

Where does Pouncey fit in the list of available Centers and Guards?

I have read that he is rated as the #1 Center and close to the top of the Guards as well. Or is that his brother? Very confusing.

Maurkice Pouncey is a center. He is in the draft. Unless the other two junior centers declare, he might be the best center in the draft.

Mike Pouncey has played guard. He will return to Florida but play center in 2010. He’s not as highly regarded, but the position change should help him. Or so he hopes.

Maurkice plays guard/center

He excells at both

The Pouncy thats entering the draft is the higher rated of the two. I would say he is in the top 5 at both positions.

A lot of thought and prayer?

If he was smart he would have said “Amen” when the cops walked up to the window of his SUV.

For Dunlap's sake...

I hope the Raiders pass on him.

He has a ton of physical talent..but it would go and die in Raider land. For some reason Al’s pipe dreams for first rounders don’t pan out like the later round guys.

Dunlap could be an all-pro talent…he needs the right teachers tho.

How come China can't vote David Lee for All-Star?

I like him for the rams

But not in the first 2 rounds. Hopefully his Dui topples his stock a little further than I think it will.

Hard to imagine him falling out of the top of the 2nd round

Who would you draft in his place? Even if he dogs it he’s better than most.

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

Well then maybe Suh should fall, although he was under the legal limit he did wreck five cars, totalling one. Maybe that should drop him to the end of the 1st? After all alcohol was involved.

Kindle, Romeus, Hughes

depending on whos available. I just think these guys characters are better and their skill sets comparable. We need a sure thing at #33. If none of these guys are available I’d be surprised but would probably have to go BPA @ DE or OLB
