Possible top 10 pick Rolando McClain enters NFL Draft
Today has been quite a day for early draft entrants. The latest name to join the fray might be the biggest.
Alabama middle linebacker Rolando McClain announced at a 1:30 p.m. news conference that he will skip his senior season and enter the 2010 NFL Draft. McClain, arguably the best linebacker in the nation, could be a top 10 pick.
In 2009, McClain led the Crimson Tide with 105 tackles, 53 of them solo. That goes along with 14.5 tackles for a loss, 14 quarterback hurries, six passes defended, four pass breakups, four sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
McClain is the epitome of an all-around linebacker. He's big, athletic and intelligent. A consensus All-American and team captain, McClain won the Butkus Award for his 2009 efforts.
Look for a scouting report on McClain sometime later this week.

To: GM's of the 1st to the 14th picks
McClain sucks. He is not an NFL player…don’t believe the hype. If was all cuz of Terrence Cody, who’s the best NT prospect in the past 50 years. Go for Cody instead. Or even Javier Areanas.
Thank you.
How come China can't vote David Lee for All-Star?
McClain over Cody
I’d love to have him on the Rams. I just don’t think we could swing a deal to get both him and Suh. That would be my dream though.
McClain makes plays all on his own. he has the instincts, the motor to succeed and he is a film junkie. he is also big fast and strong, and he hasn’t fully developed yet physically.
cody is good but not the best NT in the best 50 years
There are questions about his experience. He has only played one season at Alabama, 2 in junior college.
There are questions about his motor and his durability and he occasionally takes a few plays off. He is injury prone.
He doesn’t have a great reputation for having a great work ethic, especially because of his size and high body fat percent.
these are excerpts from a scouting report on him…now I am not saying he is good, but the best NT in the last 50 years would not take a play off and would have a great work ethic.
He is joking
He is a Giants fan who have the #15 pick that’s why he said GMs 1-14
McShay, Todd McShay you hear me boy? It's me TJ and I'm coming for your damn job boy! Oh be scared, be very scared McShay.

He could be a Raider...
If Carlos Dunlap…Is that right?…Didn’t declare.
McClain, Howard, Morrison. That would be a sick 3 LB’s.
What are the chances McClain falls into late first round, early second?
Other supposedly top 10 linebackers, and at least supposedly guaranteed first round linebackers like Maualuga last year dropped quite far. How far could McClain fall?
The knock on Rey Rey was that he overplayed his man, played undisciplined football, and had several character red flags.
McClain’s only problem is, apparently, slight anger issues.
Teams that needed an ILB still passed on Maualuga simply because he wouldn’t, say, stay in his gap (and lack of gap discipline equals mucho yardage for a savvy running back), something that’s more important to those teams than how hard he can hit.
Presuming nothing goes wrong between now and the draft day, it’s unlikely that McClain will have a Maualuga-like fall.

Maualuga was a 'space cadet' too
no where near the football smarts McClain has.
If there’s anyone who’s gonna fall like Rey, its Brandon Spikes.
McClain is more like Aaron Curry. He probably should be a top 10 pick. I hope he does fall.
Spikes is more like Rey-Rey.

Curry sucks.
McClain better not be drafted in the first round even if he’s anything like him.
Holmgren would have drafted Crabtree.

It was Curry’s rookie year can he get a break?

Don't bait him. Don't even try.

agreed. spikes is more like rey. similar speed and size. McClain is slightly slower than curry but bigger and stronger and better at playing the run. He is the prototypical playmaking ILB in a 3-4. although you can get those guys later, and elite Playmaking ILB for a 3-4 usually comes in the first round, especially the top 10 picks (ray lewis, james farrior, jerrod mayo, etc…)
are you saying Ray Lewis and James Farrior were top 10 picks? or am I misreading?

at least I meant going into the draft.....
and like tj says…give him some time.
Maybe if SEA’s DL’s were any good, he’d be a bit more free to make plays.

The DL isn't responsible for him giving up countless receptions and whiffing on millions of tackles.
And being a useless pass-rusher.
Holmgren would have drafted Crabtree.

All of our pass rushers are bordering on useless.
We just choose to drop Curry into coverage to suck.
Matt Hasselbeck's satellite TV signals would get intercepted.
Well, yeah.
Because he was a ‘coverage LB’ in college, or at least he was pegged as one because he had a few INTs.
Holmgren would have drafted Crabtree.

Maualuga also had average speed and although he was a hard hitter, missed some tackles at times b/c he was trying to go for the big hit.
McClain has almost elite speed, he is bigger than rey, he has no character issues, he has a high motor, and besides a couple of dumb penalties this year, is one of the most disciplined players out there.
I would love the browns to pick him up and #7
For awhile there I was thinking he was going to pull a Brandon Spikes and stay in school. I can’t see him falling out of the top 10.
McShay, Todd McShay you hear me boy? It's me TJ and I'm coming for your damn job boy! Oh be scared, be very scared McShay.
he only has to fall
2 spots out of top 10 to 12. I think IF the Broncos are about fed up with B. Marshall then he could with Bryant going to denver
3 new 2010 starting LBers via 2010 draft
Confidence breeds success, self-doubt breeds failure
I only wonder what they'd do with McClain if they got him.
Conventional thought would be that such a high pick has to start immediately, but that means he’d have to replace either DJ Williams or Andra Davis. Although both had their own problems (Lack of on-field discipline and lack of pass coverage skills, respectively), neither deserves to be outright replaced as the starter. DJ may just need another year to adjust to his new position (it’s his third position change in 4 years) and get comfortable, and Andra’s not horrible in coverage and is still replaced on passing downs by the very capable Wesley Woodyard, anyway.
That said, I wouldn’t very much mind seeing McClain in the orange and blue, and what the Broncos’ do to the linebacking corps in the coming months will shed light on what they’ll be doing to it in the draft.

McClain is an interesting player
I think Cleveland could get him.
Matt Hasselbeck's satellite TV signals would get intercepted.
Would love for the Bills to take him at 9 and slide Poz over. Not having Dick Jauron All-star Keith Ellison staring for us should help our run-d numbers.
