Site rankings, top 100 updated

Following some very long hours over the weekend, the site rankings have been updated. This also means that the overall top 100 has been updated.

Even though the site rankings haven't been adjusted since mid-October, the top four players remain the same in the top 100. That would be as follows:

1. Ndamukong Suh | DT | 6'4, 305 pounds | Nebraska
2. Eric Berry | SS | 5'11, 203 pounds | Tennessee
3. Gerald McCoy | DT | 6'4, 295 pounds | Oklahoma
4. Russell Okung | OT | 6'5, 300 pounds | Oklahoma State

No real shockers there, I don't think. Things really started to change up throughout the rest of the list. Find the top 100 here.

As I said, the site rankings also changed. The declared underclassmen were combined with seniors for much longer lists. Will these rankings grow? Perhaps.

Let your opinion be known on these rankings. However, if you do, don't just write "Clausen too low." If you have an opinion, back it up intelligently and without bias. That is what this site is about. If I'm missing someone, let me know in the comments or via email.

This is just the start of things to come here at MTD. I'm beginning work on a new mock draft tonight. Expect more team needs and mocks from tjdove123. Some interviews might be in the works. The monolith known as the seven-round site mock fronted by JP 23 rolls along. The SB Nation writer's mock is right around the corner. And, as always, even more of the most in-depth player scouting reports you'll find on a free draft site will be published.

QB | RB | WR | TE | OT | G | C | DE | DT | OLB | MLB | CB | FS | SS

Good stuff.

Im surprised to see Kindle so high. Even more surprised at Clausen being that low.

How come China can't vote David Lee for All-Star?

Great work

I think more of Hughes though, I like him more than Kindle.

by dbcouver on Jan 18, 2010 5:30 PM EST reply actions

I like JPP more than Hughes. Hughes hasn’t faced a high level of competition and doesn’t have too much upside.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 18, 2010 5:40 PM EST up reply actions

high level of competition? He plays FBS which is better than FCS, which didn’t stop Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, Joe Flacco, Jerome Simpson, Dexter Jackson, Justin Durant, Danieal Manning from being taken in the 1st or 2nd rounds.

Larry English, Louis Delmas, Mike Mitchell, David Veikune, Paul Kruger, Sebastian Vollmer, Sherrod Martin, Sean Smith, Leodis McKelvin, Ryan Clady, Chris Johnson, Donnie Avery, Tyrell Johnson, Matt Forte, Jason Jones, Joe Staley, Kevin Kolb, Eric Weddle, John Beck, Eric Wright, Ikaika Alama Francis, Samson Satele, Gerald Alexander, Dan Bazuin, DeAngelo Williams, Thomas Howard, Darryn Colledge, Ryan Cook, Greg Jennings, Richard Marshall, Tony Scheffler, all were taken in round 1 or 2.

Explain high level of competition.

I am comparing the competition that JPP faced to what Huges faced. I think Hughes stats look better because the Mountain West doesn’t have many good tackles.

I hope this doesn’t fall under the category of what you don’t want us to do, but I just want to know your opinions on Syd’Quan Thompson?

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 18, 2010 5:38 PM EST reply actions

How's this?

A small, moderately strong cornerback who probably isn’t a starter at the next level. A solid tackler who gets after the ball carrier. His hands and athletic ability are above average. Biggest down-side might be his playing speed. Will have to be a matchup option against slower possession receivers. Has good quickness, which is especially on display when he’s playing zone. Solid punt returner. Very experienced and durable.

Do you think moving to free safety is an option? I know he’s short but he is thick enough for the position.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 18, 2010 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

I think

He could be an excellent nickel corner.

I wonder

Why is Earl Thomas listed as a SS? He seems more like FS. And I wonder why Mays even with his down season is still rated as the number 1 FS? Oh well.

by macjack09 on Jan 18, 2010 7:42 PM EST reply actions

Thomas: Played strong at Texas.

Mays: Who is better at free safety?

by Dan Kadar on Jan 18, 2010 8:01 PM EST up reply actions

From what I have seen in other rankings, Thomas is projected as either a FS or a CB. So that’s why I was wondering. And if so he should be in front of Mays because Mays struggled mightily in coverage this year. Personally I believe he is the 4th best safety behind. Berry, Thomas, and Burnett.

That’s what I’m referring to by site rankings.

I'm actually not surprised Clausen is rated where he is.

I think he gets more hype than a guy like Gerald McCoy just because he’s a QB. I think McCoy is the far better prospect at his position than Clausen is at QB. He’s definitely one of the top two QBs (interchangeable with Bradford), but when you put him next to the others in overall talent, it’s easy to see why he is where he is on the list.

Hmmm...

Seven Gators in the top 100 and not one of them named Tebow? Interesting…

You think Tebow should be in there? He’s in the next grouping…

Well, I Do, But...

I understand why you might not think so highly of him. It’s just shocking to see him left off your board for more than the equivalent of three rounds…

Is there any way to differeniate between defenders who are better suited for a 3-4 or a 4-3?

I know Weatherspoon’s description says he’s strictly a 4-3 guy but can you provide some kind of recommendation on the others. Guys like Bowman, Muckelroy, Edds among others are the guys I’m wondering about. Maybe you could list a “second position” or something like that. Just a suggestion to help us wanna-be know it alls.

Also, why is Sapp so low on your board while others have a first round grade on him?

Can you add a “projected round” category in there somewhere?

I’m going to add 3-4 OLBs and DEs at some point.

Are you talking about the big 100 board, b/c I was talking about the individual rankings (ie if I look at ILB’s I have no idea whether Micah Johnson is a third rounder or fifth rounder in your mind.

Jason Fox

Did his two recent injuries effect you rating him so low or are you just not that high on him? I saw plenty of mocks with him at the end of the first round about a month ago. And when has he ever played guard?

Both injury and play, but mostly the former. I saw that myself in mocks and just didn’t get it.

Bradford one, Clausen two..... you must be crazy

First, Bradford won win the hesiman, which typicall jinxes players. Second, he is from shotgun spread passing formation. no wonder his numbers were sky high two years ago. First game of this junior season he goes down and pedistrian hit and is out of the season. If the biggest Bradford supports would say he durability is questioable at the next level.

Clausen played in a NFL style offense under a NFL offensive cordinator (weis was hired by KC). Second he played hurt most of the season and put up drew brees numbers doing it. So he is a knucklehead and needs mature. He has been training all of his life(since 8th attending a NFL QB preperation clinc) so that he could be an NFL QB. Besides, Moxy is a good thing in a QB. Even “levelheaded” Payton Manning has an ego.

Clausen is worth of a number one overall pick even in a Suh dominated draft class, but I agree their are more talented players on the board, only a few thought.
