Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

NFL MOCK DRAFT 1-10

1 Rams: Ndamukong Suh DT/DE Nebraska

With the Rams currently developing Kieth Null, they chose a beast who can play end or tackle. And who is being compared to the likes of Warren Sapp

2 Lions: Eric Berry SS/FS Tennessee

With a Offensive line that can be fixed in the later rounds, they opt to go the secondary that is young and upcoming.

3 Chiefs: Terrance Cody NT/DT Alabama

Scott Pioli did it again he always takes need over talent and gives KC a bug body to plug the run.

4 Tampa Bay: Russell Okung OT/OG Oklahoma State

With Josh Freemen as there Franchise quarterback, they take Okung to solidify the offensive line.

5 Redskins: Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame

With a new GM and most likely a new head coach, they go QB to rebuild this franchise.

6 Browns: Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State

You cant blame Quinn and Anderson when there starting receivers are Chansi Stuckey and Brian Robiskie. So they chose a play-maker who can remind them of Braylon Edwards

7 Seahawks: Trent Williams OT Oklahoma

With Walter Jones old injury prone body, they sign Trent Williams who could play right tackle and then next year they draft a left tackle whenever Walter retires.

8 Bills: Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma

Same thing as the redskins they have a new coach and a new GM so they draft a QB.

9 Raiders: Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma

The Raiders need desprate help in run defense, so they draft McCoy.

10 Broncos: Rolando McClain MLB/OLB

just thinka linebacker core, with DJ Williams and Rolando McClain.

From KC

I’m from KC and I know Pioli surprised us last year, but Cody is not one of the “right 53.” At least not the right one for the #3 pick, maybe 2nd round material. The sacks on our $63 million QB are more important….I really see it being an OT or Berry. Heck I could even see the surprise being McClain before it would be Cody. The NT spot can be filled later in the draft or in the FA. Cody is not worth it and will not pay off.

How is Cody not the Right 53?

Dont get it twisted, Cody is a good young man. Im not for the pick or anything but dont just make up stuff.

Cody is not a Pioli kind of guy. If there is a huge reach for a NT, it’s for Dan Williams, not Cody.

so?

BJ Raji and Ron Brace didn’t either…didn’t stop them from being future starters at NT in their careers….

T.Cody is a fat pile.

In the 2010 NBA draft the NY Knicks select.....Nate Robinson. 5"9 PG from Pringles' Doghouse U!

Niether of them are starters

I imagine you ment to say “it wont stop them”

Also, Who says that Cody isnt a Pioli guy. Dont just say Cody isnt a Pioli guy, Tell me why he isnt. He doesnt have a criminal record or suspect character. Even if he did Pioli has taken people with suspect backgrounds before in the draft, trade, and in FA.

by darwithabar on Jan 3, 2010 3:22 AM EST up reply actions

The 2nd part was not directed at you FB

Just to the idiots who talk about a “Pioli Guy.” Randy Moss would be considered a Pioli guy right? Also, In regards to you acking below FB if I would rather have a good players. I would like the best guy on the board. If that is Cody to Pioli then thats fine. Pioli has a pretty flawless draft history and I wont question it now. If thats the choice he makes then he can make it. As for people saying he isnt good, I think your nuts. His team has had one of the best run Ds for a reason. He is double teamed more then anyone else. Ive only watched one game in his career where he wasnt double teams over half the time and that was against Auburn and he still was doubled alot.

Tampa does not need a OL....

Better off giving them a QB…I mean they have a young, good player at that position too right????

Tampa would be better off getting McCoy, no doubt.

And I doubt that KC thinks NT is so much of a need..that they take Cody, who could be there in round 2, that early.

Here’s reason 1 that Terrence Cody is not a top 5 pick. Cody is not the type of player I’d guarantee $35 million too…would you?

NT is probably the Chiefs biggest need

Also, Tampa Bay’s LT is a FA that is gonna want alot. You never know if they will resign him or not.

by darwithabar on Jan 2, 2010 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

NT may be the biggest need.

…but wouldn’t you rather get a good player? Might as well reach for Dan Williams..he’s a better player and NT.

As for Tampa…Penn is their LT and even if he’s a FA…I doubt he’ll get the guaranteed cash Okung would want.

..plus, Penn is proven to be a NFL player and a good one at that…more then Okung could say.

Still, You never know if they resign him

Rudd will probably get franchised. He could walk if he wanted.

by darwithabar on Jan 3, 2010 3:24 AM EST up reply actions

Williams

I wasn’t impressed with him at all in their bowl game

Cody is the better player, IMO.

that being said, I think he’s a huge risk at #3… I wouldn’t take him there.

I’m also a Chiefs fan, and I’m hoping for Berry or McClain, I think… but we’ll see what Pioli does

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers

by stagdsp on Jan 3, 2010 10:23 AM EST up reply actions

it was one game for Williams.

Cody didn’t play yet either…either way, its just one game.

In the SEC champ game, only one of the Pouncey’s was needed to take care of him, but the rest of the excellent defensive players on UA took over..like McClain.

I watched the Florida game and they doubled him over half the time. He was a main reason they shut down their running game. Terrence Cody is by far the better player and would warrant a top 20 pick. Idk about the number 3 pick but he wouldnt be bad in the top ten.

by darwithabar on Jan 3, 2010 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

Cody has a double team percentage of 63.6%

which is very impressive. His posistion also gives him value because NTs like him are very rare. Every vdeo I found of the 2009 SEC championship game was very short and not enough info to see if he was doubled most of the time. Througout all the highlights I saw, He was double teamed by every single play. Thats even more impressive when the Pounceys twins have to double him at all.

by darwithabar on Jan 3, 2010 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

Pouncey handled him 1 on 1 a lot of the game.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 3, 2010 11:30 PM EST up reply actions

I saw Double most of the time too

I getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

by Steel in FL on Jan 4, 2010 10:04 AM EST up reply actions

I didn't...

that was one game…and I saw a whole lot of one Pouncey taking care of Cody.

Also..I’ve watched a bunch of Alabama games…Cody’s just plain ineffective most of the time.

THey have 2 very good 3-4 DE’s along side of him.

The’r OLB’s are very good too, and that’s even without their best one, Hightower.

Also they got that McClain guy.

Cody’s not taht good.

I’d say he’s a whole lot like Gabe Watson or Alan Branch…2 former Michigan DT’s who were big and fat…and not a whole lot else.

He’s not BJ Raji…that’s for god damn sure.

Not only would it be a reach to get him in the top 10…it probably would be unwise to get him in the first round.

He’s 6"5 365lbs (after fasting for a month…). Not much else.

With or without a salary cap, Tampa Bay has enough money to resign thier young tackles. Remember they made a serious run after Albert Haynesworth in the offseason because they were almost 30 mil. under the cap. I’m sure they can afford to resign Donald Penn. Plus, if there’s no extension to the CBA then Penn will be a restricted free agent anyway.

by big_jay71 on Jan 3, 2010 9:53 PM EST up reply actions

Penn

Wouldn’t be let go even though he’s a FA but Trueblood may because he costs the team too much with his penalties and lead the league in false starts..so taking a tackle in the later rounds is on board and dont let the salary cap fool anyone because they likely wont get a big player in Free Agency

by Buc-Drunk on Jan 4, 2010 10:16 AM EST up reply actions

If Keith Null

Can throw for 200 yards with Gibson and Avery, there is no reason Quinn and Anderson can’t throw for that too. They may not have the best receiving options, but they barely throw for 100 yards every game. Quinn is a bust and Derek is on the wrong team. Plus, I don’t see the Browns going with a WR that high. especially when there is just as much talent in the later rounds.

by macjack09 on Jan 2, 2010 4:10 PM EST reply actions

Quinn has had some good games, but unless you have actually watched how bad they are, you wouldn’t believe how bad there receivers are. I don’t remember thinking ‘good catch’ once this year. Quinn has had some good games, but his stats have also been hurt by drops and WRs tipping balls to DBs.

Avery is 10x any receiver the Browns have.

OP.

I appreciate your different take on the top ten, though I don’t necessarily agree. As for the Broncos pick, that’s the popular choice for a reason, I think.

"A player who conjugates a verb in the first person singular cannot be part of the squad, he has to conjugate the verb in the first person plural. We. We want to conquer. We are going to conquer. Using the word 'I' when you're in a group makes things complicated." ~ Wanderley Luxemburgo, 1999

Trent Williams and Cody are HUGE reaches here.

by TheRealSlimShady on Jan 3, 2010 12:10 AM EST reply actions

The Bucs

Not again another person giving us a Tackle when McCoy is still on the board..Our problem is stopping the run and rushing the passer..

by Buc-Drunk on Jan 3, 2010 12:14 PM EST reply actions

Can anyone direct me to a recent scouting report

that shows Cody being close to the every day talent of Gerald McCoy? I’m reading McCoy is extremely close to Suh and Cody is ordinary 1st round material ( not that hes bad just not elite)?

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

by lifelongvike on Jan 3, 2010 3:46 PM EST reply actions

Cody could improve his draft stock alot with a good game against UT

His only issue is weight. There has never been a question of his talent. He is physically a top 10 pick he just has weight issues.

by darwithabar on Jan 3, 2010 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

Because of Cody’s weight issues he is only going to be a 2-down player in the NFL, Gerald McCoy is a 3-down player who can actually rush the passer.

by big_jay71 on Jan 3, 2010 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

Do you really belive the Rams are "developing" Kieth Null?

Are you aware that Al Davis does not own the Rams? Suh is the best player, but the Rams will never win more than 4 games in one season with Null at QB. And I do mean never. I don’t care who he has around him.

Also, Dan Snyder probably won’t be as involved in the draft process as he once was, so I wouldn’t bank on the Skins going QB in the first round when their real problem is the O-line.
