Despite miserable junior year, Jevan Snead enters draft
In a year in which he constantly looked flustered in the pocket and threw and equal number of interceptions as touchdowns (20), Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead is going pro.
On the surface, this is a terrible idea. Snead only completed 54.4 percent of his passes this season. His yards and yards per attempt were lower, as were his total touchdowns.
Snead's struggles weren't solely statistical. In 2009, Snead never looked comfortable sitting back in the pocket. He wasn't putting a good touch on his passes and frequently overthrew receivers.
But the Snead who was the No. 1 quarterback prospect entering the season has to be still be in there somewhere. Snead's throwing motion is sound and his arm strength is clearly optimum. He has good size and and is regarded as an intelligent player.
And also consider the quarterbacks in this class. Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen still seem like the only two quarterbacks that are clearly better as prospects than Snead. And a point can be argued for Snead against both of those two. Considering that the last time the third quarterback selected didn't go in the first two rounds was a decade ago, this could be a wise move by Snead.

Well he did have an outstanding Cotton Bowl performance.........
Lets look at the stats please!
13 of 23 for 168 yards and no touchdowns. Oh yeah, and three interceptions.
I will give him major points for chutzpah!
Interceptions
Just remember that interceptions as a statistic can be very deceiving. Tips, dropped balls and wrong routes all lead to interceptions, but don’t show up on the box score.
I’m not trying to vilify Snead completely, he does have issues with his decision making, but I like him better than the numbers show.
I would agree with the second part there. Snead was just so ordinary all year. And his receivers aren’t terrible either.

Not a fan of Snead
He’s a terrible decision maker and he has tough times reading the coverage.
Snead better have one hell of a transformation in the NFL or else this was a waste.
FIRE JIM MORA NOW!
His decision to tun pro after this type of season
CLEARLY shows he is “a terrible decision maker” . . . ;-)
I would love him anywhere after the 3rd round.
Holmgren would have drafted Crabtree.

He's got the talent.
He had basically nothing there at Ole miss to work with…porous OL
He was good last year cuz Mike Wallace is a good WR.
I wouldn’t draft him earlier then round 2. But IMO he’s the second best QB in the draft behind Clausen (cuz Bradford’s college offense = Alex Smith).
N8 !
I know...
But one WR..and McCluster, whatever he is, is not all that good…especially in the SEC.
I mean, I guess its more accurate to say he doesn’t have much?
N8 !
It's a tough decision for any kid like Snead
He has to weigh the risk of injury playing in college in 2010, vs. the possiblity that he would do much better next year in the SEC and get drafted high in the first round and thus make A LOT more money on his rookie contract.
Now if he falls far into the 2nd round, he won’t have much of a signing bonus or salary, and won’t have college time to develop his skills further— he will be on the clock, and if he doesn’t do well when he hits the field in the NFL, has high risk for bust/washout after his rookie contract runs out.
In the second round, it’s highly likely that he’ll still get at least $1 million for a signing bonus.

Obviously Mallett is bigger and Snead has more experience.
But they’re both sort of developmental-type quarterbacks and similar as passers. And with that said, I’d have Mallett over Snead in rankings.

Agree
When I saw them play this fall, I thought Mallett had better accuracy, but Snead had better receivers.
Mallett is inaccurate as hell.
I’m not sure why he’s even considered a first-day QB prospect aside from his unusual size.
Holmgren would have drafted Crabtree.

If this doesnt say anything
The number that really matters for Ole Miss, though, is three. That’s now many starting offensive linemen the Rebels must replace — including All-American left tackle Michael Oher — before they can begin thinking about making a mark in the Southeastern Conference and attaining BCS relevance.
“Really, you got about two guys, three guys at the most, who have experience at all,” coach Houston Nutt said. “So that just concerns you.”
Well I guess Tebow officially isnt the worst QB prospect.

To anyone? I dont think I understand what you mean? Do you mean for the first round?
I mean overall.

Explain how Jevan Snead is a worse NFL quarterback prospect as Tim Tebow. This sort of baffles me.

Worst QB prospect
Is my boy Juice Williams…. Let the Juice loose.
Bears suck, Cubs suck, Bulls suck, Illini suck, who would have thought the Blackhawks would be my best shot at a title.
Tebow
Dan,
I keep thinking that everyone is down on Tebow as a franchise QB. But he is so much more. I see him as a very valuable option at RB, TE, FB, and possible Franchise QB. If you were picking late in the first round is he really that big a risk? If you pick Snead and he can’t be your QB then you have wasted a pick.
As to Snead I don’t get his coming out. Rookie salary cap next year still won’t be less than 2nd round this year. I will say that the injury to Bradford has to weigh heavily on these players minds.
Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes
If he has another year like 2009, his draft value will drop to fourth or fifth round.
His value is probably as high as it will get now. He might sneak into the end of the first round [hard to type that without laughing out loud] this year if some team completely ignores his 2009 performance and focuses on his arm strength and 2008 performance.
Other than being big, what has Tebow done to make you think he can make it as a fullback or tight end? We don’t know if he can block, run routes or catch passes – the cornerstones of those positions. As for being a running back, come on. His speed is marginal.
I’m not saying Snead is a 1st round player, but he’s a better quarterback prospect than Tebow. Easily.

Just a football athlete
Well he’s big, athletic, runs well with the ball. His 40 was 4.59 and he looks as well built as most TE. He’s tall. Granted you haven’t seen him play the positions and I don’t discount that. But watching him play he appears to be able to block like a fullback and I assume his footwork would allow him to be a Tight end. Hard pressed to believe that with his skills he can’t catch. Few college QBs really make it at other positions but few College QBs of Tebows size exist.
I wouldn’t draft him for the Vikes but with the right information I can see a team taking him.
