National title draft stock up/stock down
STOCK UP
Rolando McClain, MLB, Alabama
- Even though McClain didn't need to have a big game, and didn't necessarily. He only had four tackles, which is ordinary. But McClain always seemed to be in the middle of plays. Whether it was his two tackles for a loss or his pass breakup, McClain was a factor. It would be a shock if the junior didn't enter the draft.
Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama
- Arenas showed what he was capable of on Thursday night. His instincts were locked in and Arenas picked off two of Garrett Gilbert's passes. Texas punted away from Arenas all night, proving his value in that area. While Arenas may only be a third-round player, he cemented his status.
Sergio Kindle, DE, Texas
- The best way to describe Kindle's game is ferocious. he was hitting guys all night long totaling 3.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Kindle was dominating and Alabama spent most of the evening using help protection on Kindle.
Jordan Shipley, WR, Texas
- Forget the first half where Shipley only had one reception for five yards. Remember the second half where he had nine catches for 117 yards and two scores. Shipley showed talent evaluators that he is perhaps the best slot receiver option in the draft.
Lamarr Houston, DT, Texas
- Houston had a sensational game with 10 tackles with two for a loss and a sack. There's very little difference comparing Houston to Ziggy Hood, who was taken 32nd overall in the 2009 draft.
DOWN
Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
- McCoy needed the national title game to prove he is worth a second round pick. Instead one of his weaknesses – durability based on his bulk – was exposed.
Adam Ulatoski, OT, Texas
- It was another down game for the senior left tackle. He looked slow-footed throughout the night and showed that he's an ordinary run blocker. He's probably a right tackle in the NFL, but shouldn't be over-drafted based on his position.
Bradon Deaderick, DE/DT, Alabama
- Although he plays end in a 3-4 front, Deaderick had a quiet night. Nothing about his game showed that he's more than a space filler. Deaderick didn't collapse the pocket and didn't move laterally so well. He's a solid 3-4 end prospect, but shouldn't be taken in the first three rounds.

Ingram
All i have to say is Mark Ingram is a monster. He looked great last night as he has all year. Too bad we have to wait until next year’s draft to talk more about him. I was wondering if his lack of carries (i know he had 22 but for how good he is he should have gotten more) is b/c Saben is concerned w/ duribility or just b/c of all the other talent he has at the position?
Jon Dove
I would say it’s because of the other players they have at running back.

Staying away from the kickers I see
Leigh Tiffin looked bad and Hunter Lawrence made both of his kicks, including a 42 yarder straight down the middle.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Lawrence gets drafted.

for the 10 or so snaps
he was in there, he dominated. If he can lose some of that flab, and put on some more muscle, he will be a great 2-down NT in the league.

2 down NT is pushing it....
Tho maybe he wasn’t in there after he did a belly flop on the goal line blocking for Ingram…
N8 !
well, I think we also figured out
that a 375 lb. FB isn’t exactly the most graceful of football players…

re: Sergio Kindle
he is an exact replica of Brian Orakpo. The 4-3 DE/SLB hybrid is something I haven’t seen work for a while, but these two Longhorns are going to restart the trend. After last nights performance, Kindle cemented himself as a 1st round lock, and has proved to scouts that he is more than just a 3-4 OLB.
re: Rolando McClain
He is the next Ray Lewis. That’s simply it. He blitzes better than any LB in college. He is fluid in coverage. He is a conductor of his defense. I’m telling you, he will be a perennial probowler.
My first reaction to watching him also reminded me of Ray Lewis...
maybe Bart Scott too…

re: Javier Arenas
I love the kid, but his small stature will push him to the late 2nd round. But I see Sheldon Brown every time I watch Arenas play. He blitzes almost too well for a corner, he is very physical on the line of scrimmage, and is a rock-solid tackler.
He's taller than Welker though.

and lastly, re: Lemarr Houston
I’d heard his name a little bit before this game, but boy did he dominate. With his size, and expected 40 time of under 4.9, he will make a case to go in the late 1st round. Very Ziggy Hood-like.
Kareem Jackson was impressive
I don’t recall seeing Shipley or any other Texas receiver catch much when matched against Jackson. Shipley seemed to do most of his damage when he was covered by Barron.
