Saturday NFL Draft watch notes
If Missouri is to beat No. 1 Oklahoma today, it will be because of the play of quarterback Blaine Gabbert. We've been slow-playing Gabbert's pro potential all season. He could push his way into the upper echelon of prospects with a good game and a win today. Gabbert plays in a gimmicky offense, so it's a little hard to judge his game. Watch what he does pre-snap, though. That's what can separate top quarterback prospects from stat stuffers.
Should Gabbert be successful, it might be thanks to a bad game from Oklahoma free safety Quinton Carter. But going by how Carter has played this season, that's unlikely to happen. Carter is a dynamic safety who plays the run and pass well. He may never be a superstar in the pros, but he's solid.
One superstar out of today's game could be Oklahoma junior outside linebacker Travis Lewis. He leads the team with 59 tackles and is a to-the-ball linebacker. He can fly. So can end Jeremy Beal. He's a little hard to project to the next level, but it's impossible to dislike his pass rush skills.
The top matchup of the weekend is Oklahoma State redshirt sophomore wide receiver Justin Blackmon going against Nebraska's Prince Amukamara. Blackmon is averaging 159 yards receiving a game and is physical. But his strengths play to Amukamara's. Can you say statement game for Amukamara? The debate on Amukamara vs. Patrick Peterson will go on until draft day. Amukamara can help his cause today.
Another great matchup is in the Kansas State/Baylor game. Don't scoff. Baylor defensive tackle Phil Taylor has the size at 340 pounds and strength to collapse the pocket and disrupt running back Daniel Thomas. Both are having good years, but getting little attention.
Some people have been calling Iowa's Adrian Clayborn a top five player. If you are one of those people, please tell me why. Clayborn is good. And I know he's been getting double-teamed all season. But at some point he has to start making plays. He could line up against Gabe Carimi of Wisconsin today. Carimi, with some help, shut down Ohio State's Cameron Heyward last week.
If your team needs a penetrating defensive tackle, make sure to tune into the LSU/Auburn game. Drake Nevis has been a terror for LSU all season and Auburn's Nick Fairley has been a revelation.
LSU linebacker Kelvin Sheppard also has a chance to shine today. It's not mystery that Auburn's Cam Newton will get to the second level with the ball. It will be Sheppard's task to spy Newton and limit his running.
As always, make sure to check out tweets from Chris Steuber of NFL Draft Scout. He'll clue you in on which scouts are at what games.

I thought Blackmon was a true sophomore?

Nope
He was part of OSU’s ’08 class with S Markelle Martin, & RB Kye Staley

Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
Clayborn did just get the best of Camini on a 3rd and long
Camini was taking him wide of the play, but Clayborn got close enough to reach out and swat the ball out of Tolzien’s hand.

BIG assist from Ballard on that play though
kept Tolzien from stepping up at all.

Enderle vs. Stanzi
Who had the better game? Enderle put up similar #s to Stanzi in only one half of play, but I attribute most of that to difference in opponents.
I wasn’t able to watch any games this week so I’m trying to get an idea which one plays better? Hard to see that kinda stuff in the stats.
Thanks!
What Would Berry Do?? Haha
OR
Who Will Berry Destroy?? Better
Stanzi was less accurate than he had been most of the year
and might have gotten confused at the end costing Iowa their last TO.

Blackmon vs Prince
did anyone watch to see who fared better?
Blackmon had 5 receptions for 157 yards and 2 TD's
not sure if Prince was covering him the whole game though
FWIW he had a huge play on a flea flicker so you can’t fault prince for that.

Anyone
Notice Nick Fairley today? Dominant all day against double teams and had 3.0 sacks. He is really making a case for himself to be one of the top, if not best, 4-3 DTs in the country.

He's playing his way in
I’ve got him as a 2nd rounder, but damn is he playing his ass off

Junior
6’5" 300. He started to become known among Auburn fans last year I remember when he played well on running downs against La Tech. I was expecting good things from him this year, but I didn’t see this coming. He has been pretty much unblockable all eight games

How does Cam Newton project to the next level?

I’m not sure yet since he’s so developmental and this is really his first year. I want to see more of him passing from the pocket.

I think we’ll have to wait for the 2012 Senior Bowl.

Still wasn't impressed with Gabbert
he’s got all that eye test stuff down, but at least Sam Bradford made NFL throws all the time.
All he does is scramble around in the pocket and get the defense moving, then throw a pass. Either that or he throws that WR screen play.
Sounds kinda like Tony Romo, so unless he’s replacing him I don’t see a spot for him in the NFL.
pick me a winner
The reason
I wasn’t a fan last year is he always left the pocket too early. Still does it, but way less. I’m liking him more every time I watch his games
