Rock out with your mock draft out: Todd McShay

The leader of ESPN's Scouts Inc., Todd McShay, has released his first mock of the year. Hooray! No?

This is ESPN Insider content. Nothing says "I wanna pay for this!" like a mock draft in November. Sigh.

Anyway, onto the bits. The first head scratching moment from McShay's mock came with pick nine. He gives the Cardinals offensive tackle Nate Solder of Colorado. I know it's easy to plug an offensive tackle into the top 10, but there's not one worth that pick.

Star-divide

Furthermore, who would Solder be blocking for? Max Hall has already been benched. Ryan Mallett seems like a better choice. At the least, Mallett to Arizona is more logical than Mallett to Jacksonville, which McShay has in spot 12.

It's kind of a surprise to see McShay has five offensive tackles going in the first round. It kind of makes McShay's mock feel like plug 'n play with team needs. It's also kind of shocking to see McShay have A.J. Green last until pick 10. McShay also holds Julio Jones until the Jets with pick 29. Earlier in the mock, he refers to Jones as a "second-tier receiver." Huh?

So if this is the sort of thing that intrigues you, find McShay's mock right here.

McShay tends to McSuck

Especially considering the whole Locker fiasco last off season.

The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun

You remember how McShay was saying Jake Locker would be a top 5 pick if he came out?

Well the NFL draft advisory committee told Locker he’d be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Than McShay said the Draft advisory committee didn’t know what they were talking about. Just a weird situation all around.

And now look at Jake Locker…..looks like McShay bombed on him!

Imagine if he would have come out, he’s having a horrible year right now.

McShay

is just there to be an antagonist to Kiper I suspect.

McShay gives Denver a CB?

I see this is becoming a trend. I dont see them drafting a CB though unless the lose both Champ and Goodman this offseason. They did just draft 2 CB’s last draft and they both have shown flashes.

Its definitly a possibility but they really need a young DL for the future, one who can stop the run. The pass D has been very solid ranking 8th overall, so a CB may not be in there best interest

Mallett not logical to Jacksonville?

Dan, just wondering why you think so? I agree with you, because he doesn’t seem like a Gene Smith type of player, but am interested in your reasoning.

Also, McShay and Kiper don’t hold a candle to Mayock.

You answered your own question. The last coke addicted former Arkansas QB the Jaguars drafted didn’t work out so well. Doubt a 2nd go around is needed.

Also interesting to see he puts Solder before Costanzo

But McShay is honestly better then most when it comes to the national media, especially moreso then biased Kiper. Kiper on Clausen vs. McShay on Clausen further cements my belief in this. Im and ND fan and although I thought Clausen would be succesful oneof the things he had going for him was coming from a pro O and being able to pick the pro game up quickly, which he clearly has not. Maybe its because of the terrible supporting cast in Carolina but its clear he wasnt worth a first round pick

McShay’s descriptions of the offensive tackles are odd as well: according to him, Derek Sherrod’s an inconsistent pass protector who could play guard at the next level, and DeMarcus Love is the most NFL-ready OL prospect.

To me, the Sherrod description sounds like Love, and the Love description sounds like Sherrod.

We all love seeing Kiper eat his words on draft day

Hell I think that’s why most of us keep watching it when our teams aren’t up.

This is how you end up with Levi Brown at Tackle.

I do agree that a tackle or two will go in the top 10, even if they don't grade out as top 10s

That’s what teams do. But like mb16151 said above, McShay does tend to McSuck.

The only people who really know where [the edge] is are the ones who have gone over it.
