Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor not entering NFL Draft
As of right now, Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor is returning for his senior season in 2011. That's according to a report in the Columbus Dispatch today.
If nothing else, that removes one of the biggest 2011 NFL Draft question marks. While Pryor has improved as a pocket passer, it's clear his game still needs refining.
The Cam Newton factor also has to weigh on Pryor's pro future. The two big, athletic quarterbacks will forever be linked as draft prospects. As of right now, people seem to be liking Newton more. So that kind of has me wondering which is better as a prospect. Let me know – and why.

Pryor is the better pro prospect
Newton is better right now. But Pryor plays in a pro style offense, is bigger, faster and has a better arm. And with another year of polish should be able to get himself into the upper half of the first round. Seriously Pryor is the most physically gifted QB prospect since Vick.
The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun
sorry, but could not disagree anymore
The praise you lavish Pryor with I would give to Newton. Newton is bigger, faster and has a better arm
Plus, and here’s the kicker for the NFL: Newton is much more accurate, IMO. They both are completeing 67% f their passes so its hard to debate this, but I just see more crisp passes from Newton, ones that catches his WR’s in stride and all that good junk

Pryor is 6 foot 6 240
And runs a 4.33. Pryor is the better athlete. Newton is what 6 foot 4 and runs I believe a 4.56. It is hard to believe but Pryor is actually a better athlete. He just gets less of a chance to show it off in Tressels offense.

false
Pryor is 233, while Newtons 250. Newton’s also 6-5 and Pyor is 6-6 but that really doesnt make a difference, the weight is huge. Pryor may have the better 40 but give me Newton, I like him better in open field situations honestly.
Not in the NFL
Pryors experience with the Pro-style at the very least gives scouts a look into his potential, as an NFL QB. Newton will be an athletic prospect with unknown pure QB skills. All a QB really needs is enough athleticism to be mobile in the pocket, and not an embarrassment scrambling for a first down. Neither one is Vick.
I’d be willing to bet that Newton doesn’t even become a first string QB in the NFL, at least not a good one.

Everyones brought up valid points.
They are both talented but the truth is neither of them would really tear up the NFL their rookie seasons anyways. Comments are being made that teams need to revamp an offense to make them fit. Well there’s a few teams going to be revamping very soon. 49ers, Bengals, Vikings. (Jags Possibly as well) Where a coaching staff change will occur and an offense could be built around one of them.
Sports = Money.
Lemme rephrase that
Yes, I bet it helps, but I dont buy into spread QB’s not adjusting to the pro game quickly and vice versa
Who knows who’ll be better? I do think Pryor gets a little too much flak, possibly due to the expectations there were with him coming in. But when you consider he’s essentially started since he was a true freshman, note the improvements he’s making, orchestrated a signature win in what was essentially a put-up-or-shut-up game for the entire program last Rose Bowl, I think there’s some things to get excited about.
That said, I think this is a very smart move for him. He does still need seasoning and develop a quicker instinct for passing windows. He does need to improve his touch. And honestly, given health, I think he goes higher in 2012 than 2011, probably due to Newton. I agree Newton’s bettter right now.
I think they’re both first rounders. I hate to do the ole’ “if X then y,” but if Tim Tebow’s a first rounder, Newton and Pryor are first rounders. I’d rather have either of the latter two.
Neither...
…both will be like all the other mobile quarterbacks in the league- mediocre. Not out of lack of ability, but out of the fact that the offense will have to be fully transformed to meet their skill set. Michael Vick is in the perfect situation in Philadelphia, with quick receiver threats. Offenses will need to be revamped if they select either Newton or Pryor.
If the Vikings took one, I think they’d do well. If they went to a team like New England or Indianapolis (just for the sake of things), they wouldn’t succeed. Tebow’s in Denver and he won’t do well. They’re not pocket passers. They’re just not, regardless of how they’re being molded. They need to be put in offenses where they can use their mobility to their advantage- and I don’t think a lot of offenses use their quarterback in that fashion.
I think both of these guys would flourish
If put under the tutelage of a guy like Chan Gailey.

Big and athletic are not the most important traits in a QB
I see Pryor right now as the early version of Vick. An athletic QB with a strong arm but not great accuracy. He cannot throw the 20-yd out with tight coverage or a skinny post between the CB, S, and MLB.
It is easy to look good playing for Ohio State. The talent difference between college programs is much greater than the NFL. Sure, Pryor has looked great against Eastern Michigan this year. But look at his numbers against Miami. Or Wisconsin. You cannot be a successful NFL QB and run 20 times in a game. He might be able to run by those college guys. But if Minnesota drafts him, do you think it will be as easy to run past Matthews and Briggs?
Pryor is staying because he needs another year to try and be considered a serious QB.

Pryor is trying to get his stock in the first round. Thats why he’s staying. Right now he’s a 2nd rounder. IMO, we’ll probably end up disagreeing, but such is life. However even his worst game of the year (Wisconsin) he finished with a QB rating of 85+. I guarantee you right now theirs NFL GM’s salivating over him.

Oh yea
Big and athletic are not the most important traits in a QB
And big and athletic has served plenty of QB’s well in the NFL.

Read that comment again
Are there more Chad Penningtons and Tim Hasselbecks in the NFL or more Terrelle Pryors? While it certainly helps to be big and athletic, teams look for QBs that can throw the ball accurately and make intelligent decisions. Marino. Montana. Stafford and Bradford. That is why Culpepper is in the UFL right now.
And college QB ratings are different from the NFL. Try looking at all of the other stats.
What Pryor needs to do is to spend his senior year pretending he is Kent Graham at QB for the Buckeyes. Pretend he cannot run, and put his success all on his arm. He has been getting better every year. But he is still not ready.
Well obviously they'll be more Hasselbacks than Pryors
Pryor is a once in a decade athlete. Can he improve? Absolutely, could he play in the NFL right now with his physical abilities? Absolutely, you just have to have a flexible offensive coach.

I think the Iowa game will show a lot
I want to see him play like he did in the Rose Bowl last season.
I agree
That he needs another signature win.

It’s too bad you can’t do the martial arts trick of tying an arm behind these guys’ backs in hopes of getting them to develop their lessor skills.
In other words, it’s one thing for Terrelle Pryor to try and refine his game. But come game time, it’s just so typically easier—and effective—for him to just rifle 60-yard ropes to his receivers who have gotten behind the coverage, or to just run the ball if the first or second read aren’t there yet. And it’s not like Jim Tressel’s going to discourage him from doing these things…
finished with a QB rating of 85+.

RE; Pryor staying
he’s staying to win a National Championship….and to develop into a better passer. There is alot left to be desired w/his passing game.
I dont think his decsion making is up to par

I'm a Buckeye through and through, but see no pro future for Pryor
I don’t know how much it comes off on TV, but I go to all the games and his passes are ugly.
There are many things I don’t like about his pro future:
- He struggles to throw TO receivers instead of IN THE VICINITY of receivers. His pass catches have to go GET the ball a lot. I don’t think he’ll ever be able to throw with the accuracy needed in the NFL. I can’t imagine him ever completing a back-shoulder fade.
- He misses reads. Just got back from the Penn State game and on a critical 3rd down play he missed a Sanzenbacker who was wide open after he made his break but Pryor had moved on in his progression before the break and threw a check-down to Boom Herron that was blown up way short of the sticks.
- He uses his athleticism to avoid sacks by staying up-right. In the NFL you can’t just use your strength to stay up. The first time he faces a Pittsbugh pass rush or a DeMarcus Ware coming around the edge on him he’s going to get a rude awakening.
He’s a great athlete but athleticism doesn’t make a great QB. What makes a great QB is accuracy and the ability to see where the best place to throw the ball is. Pryor doesn’t have that.
I’d rate him as a 3rd round talent right now.
So, what was the Wade Phillips era like?

and his spirals are ugly
I don’t know if there’s a stat for how long the ball is in the air… but he lofts balls A LOT. I never see him throw a bullett. His passes hang in the air for an eternity compared to how Payton Manning or Drew Brees zip balls out.

If Tebow and Vince Young are first rounders
someone will draft Pryor in the first. Even if he throws ducks, he’s still got better mechanics then those 2.
As long as he’s not expected to start right away, he’s too good of an athlete to go in the third round. He’s also not a bad character type dude either, so as an elite athlete he’s not falling to the 2nd either.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
i see him as a flex TE in the nfl

well
i’ve seen him catch TD twice now….just saying…he has the speed and hands to be a TE (pass catching ones…..def not a blocker) in the nfl…..there are a few ex qbs in the nfl who are WR’s….
