It is definitely terrible around
here (I live in Charlotte NC). This city has little faith in Clausen. They need a lot of pieces and the GM has been pretty terrible in recent drafts.
I was mad as $#%@ when we drafted Dexter McCluster and now I'm ordering his jersey......oh the irony! Go Chiefs!
Thats why fans dont run teams
they are fickle, too fickle and are too short sighted. Remember too Jimmy Clausen was their first pick of the draft, so ditching on him now would be like ditching on your first round draft pick after one year.
They need to give him something to throw to. I just cant see any reason why they dont draft AJ Green. Lets say they do draft Luck, who’s he gonna throw to? I’ve seen Panthers fans on this website drop the names of scrubs with “potential” but they dont have a guy a young QB can lean on in times of duress. Give your QB something (anything) to work with and then you can decide if Clausen is a failure.
I'm pretty sure
I said this city has little faith in Clausen…..and I’m aware of the situation he’s in.

And that's why you don't run a team
Ditching Jimmy Clausen right now wouldn’t be like giving up on a 1st round pick, it would be like giving up on a mid 2nd round pick because that’s where he was drafted. Just because Jimmy was the Panthers’ first pick last year, doesn’t mean he was a first round pick. Clausen’s contract isn’t huge and he has shown absolutely nothing this year.
To be fair, Jimmy hasn’t had a lot of time to throw the ball this year due to inconsistent O-line play. He was thrown into a bad situation with the purge of veteran talent. Though, I wouldn’t say that Clausen has nobody to throw to. Remember Steve Smith? Some people say that he has lost a step this year, but I disagree. I think it has more to do with the QB play this season than anything else. I also think you are discounting our rookie WRs just because they are rookies. What good would drafting AJ Green do if the QB can’t get him the ball? It seems pretty likely that Andrew Luck will be a much better QB than Clausen will ever be.
You say that we are being short-sighted by wanting to draft Luck. I say we are looking out to the future because Andrew Luck is an upgrade from Jimmy Clausen. I’m guessing you haven’t watched many Panthers’ games this year.
It's a tough predicament for Carolina
Whoever the new Head Coach is, his career will likely tied to the fate of QB Jimmy Clausen or Andrew Luck. So take your pick. If you are hired as the new Head Coach and want to stay there longer than 2 years, who do you want leading your offense? Granted, it’s the GM that does the drafting, but the Head Coach is the one that develops and gives the team a direction. The new Head Coach will have his own fair choice. I’m not sure what the best decision is though for Carolina. I haven’t seen Luck play yet, so he’s all hype at this point to me. Drafting AJ Green would likely open up the playbook for Clausen. No doubt about that. I’m always intrigued by big targets in WR’s. These are your go to guys to move the chains consistently and often.

Lol nice start...
And when it is your first pick of the draft, no matter how late it its, abandoning him is never a good idea. You and I both know he has yet to get a fair shake down there. I may be an ND homer, but if I’m running a team I’d never take 2 QB’s with my first pick in consecutive years, just bad drafting.
You're kidding, right?
2009: E. Brown (Starting DE – decent player); Sherrod Martin (Starting S – good player); Mike Goodson (3rd string RB – Filled in BEAUTIFULLY in the absence of DeAngelo); Captain Munnerlyn (Very good CB – a top nickel back in the league and played well when he’s started)
2008: Jonathan Stewart (Top 15-20 RB); Jeff Otah (Top 10 RT); Charles Godfrey (Good S – Great ballhawk); Dan Connor (Was playing great as the MLB until he got injured)
2007: Jon Beason (2nd best LB in the league); Ryan Kalil (Top 10 C); Charles Johnson (Very good DE)
2006: DeAngelo Williams (Top 10 RB); Richard Marshall (Solid #2 corner, though slacking this year); James Anderson (Most underrated defensive player in the NFL)
You have no clue what you’re talking about.

I'm thinking you took my comment
as some kind of personal attack?
You have no clue what you’re talking about.
I’ve been to Cat Scratch Reader and posted a few times (since I actually care about how the Panthers are doing). You actually seem like a good group. Maybe your having a tough Monday at work or something…..
Anyways, I’ve been watching the Panthers play in person for the past couple of years. I appreciate your pointing out the good individuals coming out of the draft classes. But if the GM was doing such a good job lately, the team wouldn’t be where it is today. I wouldn’t put this year all on Fox, the personnel situation is not good.

Sorry 'bout that
Didn’t mean to come off as hostile. A big reason why Carolina sucks ass this year is because of all of the releases this past offseason. The front office dumped a HUGE amount of salary to improve the future success of the team. Since there’s no cap this year, the releases won’t leave a cap hit, so to say, and that salary is off of the books. When the new CBA is installed, Carolina will be so far under the cap that it’s not even funny. This team really has been murdered by injuries all around the field, as well.

Hell, Everette Brown and Jason Williams went on IR today
Williams was playing GREAT recently. Great waiver-wire pick up.

No worries man
I don’t think I did the best job of actually conveying the fact that I’m also a big fan of the Panthers.
Look at my Chiefs…….we been in the basement for what 3 years now. Our old GM was driving us into the f’ing ground. We kicked him to the curb, and we’re on the upswing and building towards a brighter future.
I witnessed the mass destruction (salary dump) Carolina did this offseason and I knew it was gonna be a tough year. I was a huge fan of Hoover (he was gettin up there yes, but creating monster blocks for the run). Injuries have been a problem also (I was waiting to see Thomas Davis have a monster year).
Thoughts on the first round pick?

Luck
Clausen has shown me nothing at all. Granted, the protection hasn’t been great and all of that, but he hasn’t shown any leadership (Smith just blasted him today for that) and doesn’t have a great pocket presence or arm. I just don’t have any confidence in the guy.

yeah I'd definitely say that Hurney has done a great job overall in the draft.
I just wish he would stay away from trading our draft picks on draft day. Last year’s trade to get Edwards makes me want to throw up. What was he thinking?
DeAngelo Williams (Top 10 RB)
…and you lost me there.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
It doesn't matter
Him and Stew are both top 20 RBs, thus reinforcing the fact that Hurney isn’t a bad drafter.

If they're top-20 then they're pretty close to 19th and 20th

yeah this year hasn't been so good for them
But if we go back to the last two years they have definitely been great RBs
you do realize they are the ONLY two backs to rush for over 1100 yards in one season on the same team right?

please give me 10 better?
You must only be going off of this year. I would take DW over AP any day of the week. AP fumbles waaayyyy too much to be considered a top 10 back.

DeAngelo Williams is a better running back than Adrian Peterson? The one that plays for the Vikings? Anyway:
Chris Johnson
Maurice Jones-Drew
Adrian Peterson
Steven Jackson
Ray Rice
Frank Gore
Michael Turner
Arian Foster
Jamaal Charles
LeSean McCoy
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
agree with the list except for...
Ray Rice (hasn’t done anything this year, only one good year so far), Arian Foster (only one good year so far), LeSean McCoy (only one good year so far). The trust is, if you put DeAngelo Williams on any of the running backs’ teams you’ve listed, DeAngelo would have had a much better year than he did. The O-line for Carolina has been horrible this year. Where ever DeAngelo plays next year he will have a better season than this year.
really?
C’mon man!

let me clarify
I think that other than Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson, that DeAngelo is on the level of the other running backs. I’m sorry I just can’t say the that D Will is as good as CJ and AP.
Well actually, Peterson hasnt even fumbled once this year
so it appears he doesnt fumble waaayyyy too much anymore.
If it's just play on the field
I take AP or CJ over D-Will. But he is to much of a favourite of mine for me say I want them over him.:)

Those are all 1st Round picks
Which as you pointed out, were all good picks. However, the bulk of your roster is built from rounds 2-7. How has your GM faired in those rounds? IDK as i’m not familiar with him or the Panthers. All I know is they are not good and apparently there are a lot of positions to address. The best GM’s find talent deep in the draft. How has he done in that area?

This past year
In the 6th round we got
Greg Hardy looks like a great steal except Fox won’t play him
David Gettis is looking like at least a future 2 WR if not a 1 WR
Jordan Pugh is a good safety backup who I could see competing for a starting job next year.

As a Browns fan that doesn’t follow the Panthers except when we played you guys, I would absolutely take Luck if I were you. I’m not impressed by Claussen at all, and it’s not like you have massive money invested in him. Luck is an amazing prospect, or so I hear, so anybody drafting in the top 5 should absolutely take him if they get the chance.
