49ers Needs: Cornerback
The 49ers secondary has been burned all year long. They need a corner badly. We have faced 4 quarterback's that are in the top 10 in passer rating -- Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Matt Cassel, and Aaron Rodgers. Those 4 have a 4-0 record against us, and have combined for a score of 124-55. They have completed 84 of 120 passes, for 1,075 yards, with 11 touchdowns and 1 interception. That's a combined QB rating of 124.8. Nate Clements and Shawntae Spencer are fine options for now, but they are getting older and we will need a corner for the future.
The top 5 ranked college cornerbacks:(according to drafttek.com)
- Prince Amukamara - Nebraska - Sr.
- Patrick Peterson - LSU - Jr.
- Brandon Harris - Miami(FL) - Jr.
- Janoris Jenkins - Florida - Jr.
- Jimmy Smith - Colorado - Sr.
If we are picking top 10, I would take either Amukamara or Peterson, whoever is left. But should both be gone, don't reach on Harris. Either take someone else or trade pack to the mid-teens if they want him. If we go a whole different position in the first round, Jenkins and Smith would be good options in the second. If somehow both Peterson and Amukamara were left when we pick, it would be a tough choice but I'd probably go for Amukamara.
2010 49ers corners:
Nate Clements (Ohio State, 10 years pro, 31 years old)
At 31 years old, he's lost a step, or two. With his contract, there is no way he is back. He is definitely not worth the $7.2 million he would make next year. I expect his contract to be torn up, and a new one to be offered. If not, bye-bye. He's improved from last year. He is one of the best tackling corners in the league. In 2010 he has 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and a sack. I would like him back for one more year, but not with his current contract.
Shawntae Spencer (Pittsburgh, 7 years pro, 28 years old)
He usually takes on the opposing teams #1 receiver. While he is better in coverage then Clements, he consistently misses tackles. He's bounced back strong from a knee injury he suffered 2 years ago. Has 3 interceptions on the year, and a forced fumble.
Tarell Brown (Texas, 4 years pro, 25 years old)
Started the year as the 3rd corner, but was demoted because of his poor play, and when a concussion knocked out Will James he regained his job back and looks like he's playing the best in his career. He's signed through 2013, so I expect him back.
Will James (Western Illinois, 10 years pro, 31 years old)
He's been inactive since a serious week 10 concussion. He's 31 years old so I don't expect him back next year.
Phillip Adams (South Carolina State, Rookie, 22 years old)
The 7th round rookie has gotten a bit more playing time lately. He's the fastest of the 6 corners. He can also return punts. I like his chances of being back next year.
Tramaine Brock (Belhaven, Rookie, 22 years old)
He has been inactive for all but 1 game this year. He hasn't played a snap on defense. The only reason he made the team was because of a great final preseason game performance. He probably won't make the team next year.

In my opinion
Peterson > Amukamara
Jenkins > Harris
You probably don’t agree, but if I were you guys I would go Cam Newton in the first and Jimmy Smith in the 2nd.
Too many holes on Defense to pick a huge project in Newton (no one will be upset about missing Newton anyways).
If a CB isn’t available at their pick, then they can take any combination of a OLB, DE, DT, S, or even a WR (not likely). So a Robert Quinn, Von Miller, Cameron Hayward, Marcell Dareus, Allen Bailey picks are much more likely then Cam Newton.

not convinced Jimmy Smith will be there in the second.
and i wouldn’t take Cam Newton as high as our pick will be.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
If we're picking top 10.
I definitely would not want to pick Newton that high.

Sorry to rain on your parade...
However, there is NO way, barring a trade by the 9ers, that SF could obtain Pat Peterson. He’ll be gone in the top 5. Sorry, but thinking Pat Peterson will be available by the time the 49ers pick is simply wishful thinking. And as for Amukamara, he’ll probably go in the top 10, so that might leave ya’ll plain out of luck as for both of them.
this is a draft site
not a fuckin 49ers site. go take ur 49er pussy shit on a 49er site. everyone else does not give a fuck. if it was on corners well so b it. but its on the goddamn shitty ass 49ers

Its time for you to stop posting.
I think every sentence you type has to include as many curse words as possible or your simple mind will explode.
And for god sakes it “your” not “ur”, “you” not "u’, and “be” not “b”.
I really hope someone buys you Hooked on Phonics for Christmas so you don’t kill any more of other peoples brain cells when they read your simplistic writing.
Here it is in image form so even you can understand:

This is what I think they should do:
Take Amukamara if they can. If not, take Harris. That way, you have your guy who can replace Spencer in guarding the #1s. Then, you move Spencer to the other Corner spot.
Phillip Adams and Tarell Brown battle for the #3 spot.
Clements? I say they rework his contract and move him to FS. He can be an excellent FS. He is a guy I would trust as the last line of defense in centerfield (I mean, he is a step slow for a CB, but he makes good reads and has decent FS speed). he is also good in run support and at 205 pounds, is thicker than your average CB.
Goldston seems more of a SS than a FS. I have seen him get burned a couple times. he is really good against the run, but his skill set is more SS than FS.
If they can get Amukamara, that is a solid Secondary. I think Amukamara can be a #1 CB almost from Day 1. Yes, that would mean benching Mays but he isn’t yet anything special as a starter from what I have seen.

Intensive Purposes? I could care less...
your whole argument is a fallacy!
