JKP Mock Draft V1
Carolina (1-12)- Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
To the dismay of Panther fandom, Andrew Luck decides not to enter the draft citing unresolved CBA issues and graduating from Stanford. So, the Panthers basically have to choose between AJ Green and Pat Peterson. They go with Peterson. Although Green is the best wideout prospect since Calvin Johnson, the Panthers have too much young promise at the position, not to mention Steve Smith. And although the defensive line is in need of upgrades, the Panthers go with a Cornerback. Starter Richard Marshall won’t be back next year and Chris Gamble has had injuries and played poorly the past year. So, with the trouble at Cornerback, the Panthers select the Deion Sanders-esque Patrick Peterson.
Cincinnati (2-11)- Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
So Andrew Luck doesn’t come out, and this pick is too high to pick a QB such as Mallett or Locker. Cincy decides to wait on a QB, and one of their biggest need is on the defensive line, as their luck picking DE’s has been poor. Michael Johnson hasn’t amounted to anything, and Robert Geathers has seen better years. Bowers will team up with the up and coming Carlos Dunlap to form a good tandem. Therefore, Cincy elects to pick the Bronko Nagurski winning Bowers, hoping he’s the next Mario Williams.
Denver (3-10)- Robert Quinn, DE/OLB, UNC
QB? No, Tebow looks like the future in Denver. The offense looks pretty set, however the Defense needs some help. Quinn will help the 2nd worst run defense as an OLB.
Detroit (3-10)- Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
Cornerback is a glaring need in Detroit. And the Lions couldn’t be happier to land the 2nd best corner in college football. With Ndamukong Suh up front and Amukamara in the secondary, this Lion’s defense is going to have some serious bite!
Buffalo (3-10)- AJ Green, WR, UGA
After Ryan Fitzpatrick’s productive year, Buffalo scoffs at the thought of taking a quarterback. Steve Johnson isn’t bad, and they do have Lee Evans, however the Bills just can’t resist AJ Green just like they couldn’t resist CJ Spiller last year!
Arizona (4-9)- Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
It’s pretty obvious that Skelton and Hall aren’t the answer at QB in Arizona. Mallet is the perfect candidate for them. Big, tall, has a cannon for an arm, and comes from Bobby Petrino’s high flying offense.
Dallas (4-9)- Marcell Dareus, DT, Bama
No need to upgrade offense, Dallas replaces Chris Canty one year late.
San Francisco (5-8)- Jake Locker, QB, Washington
New coach, new QB. Alex Smith is an incredibly volatile QB, one week he perfroms well, the next week he’s terrible. While Troy Smith was great at Ohio St, he isn’t the answer. San Fran needs someone to build around, and Jake Locker will usher in the new era.
Tennessee (5-8)- Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska
SURPRISE! Kiper and McShay are in shock! Most expected Crick to go in the 2nd, however just like Tyson Alualu last year, Crick goes earlier than expected. Actually, if you look at his production, it’s not such a surprise. With or without Ndamukong Suh at his side, he’s produced around 70 tackles and 10 sacks a year. He goes ahead of Fairley because of consistency because Fairley is afterall, a one-year wonder.
Washington (5-8)- Julio Jones, WR, Bama
Shanahan needs to get someone for McNabb to throw to and Jones is a perfect fit for this offense!
Houston (5-8)- Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
Houston is thrilled to have Fairley fall this far, and with their need for a disruptive interior lineman, Fairley is an easy choice.
Minnesota (5-8)- Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
No, Newton won’t go in the top 10, but it is likely that someone will reach for him in the 1st. Some team desperate for a QB…a team like Minnesota. The Vikes can’t rely on Favre to be back next year, or even to be back to his Pro Bowl form. Learning from their mistake of not picking Jimmy Clausen last year, they go with Newton. Hey, if Tim Tebow went in the 1st round, Cam’s got a shot!
Cleveland (5-8)- Michael Floyd, WR, ND
Colt McCoy is the QB of the future in Cleveland, and he needs someone to throw to. Mohammad Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie are decent, however this offense needs a dominant #1 like Floyd to rise out of being one of the worst passing offenses in the NFL.
New England - from Oakland (6-7)- Mark Ingram, RB, Bama
While it is very possible that NE does a lot of wheeling and dealing during draft weekend, they can’t pass up Ingram. BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been an adequate fill in, however Ingram would instantly upgrade this offense, and potentially make it unstoppable. With Seattle, Miami, Tampa Bay, Green Bay, and New Orleans possibly coveting Ingram, New England almost HAS to draft him.
Seattle (6-7)- Allen Bailey, DT/DE, Miami
They’ve got no one on the interior, and the alligator wrestling, country strong Bailey will beef it up.
San Diego (7-6)- Joseph Barksdale, OT/G, LSU
The Chargers have had difficulty running the ball this year, typically one of their strong suits. They need to get back to that. Barksdale is surprisingly the 1st lineman taken in a weaker class.
Indianapolis (7-6)- Derek Sherrod, OT, Miss State
You can have the best QB in the game, but if you can’t protect him from the other team, then he’s not going to be as good as he could be. So, Indy springs for a lineman.
Miami (7-6)- Marcus Cannon, OG, TCU
OG Richie Incognito walks from the fins as a free agent. The fins have had trouble running anyway, so they draft a massive guard.
Tampa Bay (8-5)- Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
Last year they beefed up the interior with Gerald McCoy and Brian Price, and now they’ve got to tackle the ends. Kerrigan is a strong DE with great production, and Tampa is excited to welcome him to the Gulf Coast.
Green Bay (8-5)- Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
Beside Charles Woodson, the Packers are going to have another shutdown corner.
St. Louis* (6-7)- Jon Baldwin, WR, Pitt
Getting a young QB a young WR to grow with has been a tried and true formula. The Rams get Bradford a target, a very tall and athletic one.
Jacksonville* (8-5)- Deunta Williams, S, UNC
The Jags have to face Payton Manning and Matt Schaub twice a year, and they need an upgrade at Safety.
Kansas City* (8-5)- Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
Mike Vrabel is old and needs to be replaced. Ayers is one of the best outside backers in the draft.
Chicago* (9-4)- Anthony Castonzo, OT, BC
Doesn’t need much explanation here, because Cutler has seen a lot of grass up close this year.
New York Giants* (9-4)- Bruce Carter, LB, UNC
The Giants get the dominant LB they’ve needed in the super-athletic Carter.
New York Jets* (9-4)- Cameron Jordan, DT, Cal
Jets choose to upgrade their 3-4 D-line with a 3-4 lineman from Cal.
Baltimore* (9-4)- Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida
Although the Raven D is fearsome, their corners aren’t!
New Orleans* (10-3)- Drake Nevis, DT, LSU
Facing Turner the Burner and Carolina’s Double Trouble twice a year, the Saints need to upgrade their D-Line.
Philadelphia* (9-4)- Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
Carimi upgrades the weakness of the line, King Dunlap.
Pittsburgh* (10-3)- Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida
The Pouncey Bros reunite in Pittsburgh.
Atlanta* (11-2)- Kyle Rudolph, TE, ND
Tony Gonzalez retires, and the Falcons draft Rudolph because they need a playmaker to take his place.
New England* (11-2)- Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn State
With lots of issues on the O-Line the Pats take the versatile Wisniewski.

Hey man. Like the different take with no Luck in there.
Tell me what you like about Barksdale.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Thanks!
Yeah, it seems that the consensus is that Luck WILL BE the Panthers pick at #1, however I think the odds of him entering the draft are lower than most would think. Not sure how most think that Luck entering will be a certainty!
About Barksdale, it’s not so much about me liking him. I have Barksdale going earlier than most think for a number of reasons:
1) Drafticians just don’t follow the positional rankings as we mock drafters do. They have different ideas of who’s the better ____. Additionally teams value guys differently than other teams do. Case in point is last year. It was commonly assumed that Russell Okung was the top tackle, however Washington picked Trent Williams over him. Williams fit their style more, and I guess they just had a different opinion about Okung and Williams, and who was better.
2) Secondly, I did it just for the case of being different and the element of surprise. No one knows how these things will work out. Some like Bruce Campbell have major slides and others like Tyson Alualu jump up into the 1st round. Barksdale is a guy that I could see moving up…
3) Barksdale seems to be, in some circles, one of the better tackles. He has very good size, for an OT or OG, has great technique, and that raw athleticism that you look for in an OT.
Now, I could be completely in left field here. However, I think Barksdale is very likely a 1-2 round prospect with the potential for the first round.
ha yea for sure.

9ers won't take Locker.
At that point, I would take Fairley at that point, or trade back and get Harris.
Shanahan needs to get someone for McNabb to throw to and Jones is a perfect fit for this offense!
McNabb will not be back next year for them…

Redskins will trade up in the draft to get Andrew Luck or will draft Ryan Mallett
there’s no way in hell McNabb is back in Washington next year.

Trade up for Luck?
They would then have to trade a whole lot of pick. They’ll just stay put and get Mallet or Newton

I know...
Trust me I know, but if Mike Shanahan really wants Andrew Luck he’ll get Andrew Luck. The marginal amount of picks goes up a lot the higher you want to trade up.

If Luck declares It'll take for the Panthers...
McNabb and Haynesworth (but Snyder has to pay the salaries while they are there), and Fred Davis, plus the 2011 1st and 2nd round picks, 2012 1st and 3rd and a cheerleader to be named later.

Yeah, that's not happening for you guys.
If your asking price even involves an extra 1st round pick than the one already included this year we’re going to take Ryan Mallett for sure.

wasn't the future supposed to be Kevin Kolb
how’s that turn out for you?

wrong team
I’m Giants.
Although I think Kolb will be a hot commodity this offseason.
Terps fan?
Tell me what you think of Torrey Smith.

Torrey Smith
will translate into a solid receiver in the NFL, at this point in time he’s better than Darrius Heyward-Bey ever was. Torrey Smith has elite speed, he doesn’t have as much size (6’1 and around 208-210) as you want, but he’s a very strong kid so he’s above average in that regard. His route running skills are pretty good and when he’s forced to break a route he’ll often make a play. He has reliable hands and will catch 9 out of 10 balls unless he’s about to be hit hard. He’s willing to catch passes through the middle. What he does need work on the most is working against double coverage. I say he goes in the 3rd to 4th rounds of the draft. Either way he’s a steal at that position, he’ll make an excellent receiver in the NFL simply because the kid’s work ethic is amazing.

Mikeinsp, could you elaborate as to why the "9ers won't take Locker"....
Just saying that they won’t because they won’t doesn’t give me much reason to believe they won’t. Is it just Locker, or is it that they won’t pick a QB?
From my standpoint, the 49ers desperately need a QB, and Locker seems to be that round 1-2 prospect. Now maybe the 49ers think that Locker shares too many similarities with Alex Smith, and that I could understand. However, it seems that the 49ers might have a new coaching staff next year, and they usually like to pick their own QBs.
garrard has 22 touchdowns passing, and 4 touchdowns rushing, and about 7 of his interceptions were in wr's hands..
David Garrard is not that bad, and the QB position is not the biggest need for JAX right now.

And if the niners DO take Locker
I will be super PISSED

Hmm...
I think Denver is fine at OLB. They are getting Doom back next year, have still developing Ayers as a good run defender (hopefully improves as a rusher next year), and have good depth in Haggan and Hunter. Plus, a lot of people think Ayers was a bad pick because he is too big for OLB, so why would we go ahead and draft one of similar size? I realize Quinn is more of a freak then Ayers, but still I question his ability to be a 3-4 OLB.
OLB is a likely possibility of being drafted for Denver, but not this high. With a D so devout of talent, they need to go secondary and DL early, and if any pick other then DL is made this high expect a lot of remotes going through TV’s in Denver. Peterson could reduce that number if he is the pick, but really watching their games its embarrassing watching this pop warner DL get killed every play, and watching the only 2 worth a damn on the bench half the game cuz they are so old (Bannan and Williams)
and denver MUST draft defense lol..i like quinn
by FgallosJAGS on Dec 20, 2010 11:52 PM EST up reply actions
Quinn really?
When Scheme and need are taken into account, no. I realize its a possibility but to do so would be stupid. It gets us no where. We need a run stopping DL, where as Quinn would play OLB for us. Yes, D is a must, but someone who would help us in an area of need would be better then Quinn. e got a pass rush with Doom, no need for Quinn

forgot your run defense was that bad..whens doomey get back..next year i assume ?
i forgot about him, then yea take a DT
by FgallosJAGS on Dec 21, 2010 10:22 AM EST up reply actions
Doom will come back next year
just tore his pec, so I doubt it will linger. They said he might have been ready by December this year but they wanted that roster spot. He should be fine.
Not really anymore.
Right now we have our undersized 5’9" 186 LB nickel corner covering #1 receivers like Roddy White and Larry Fitzgerald, hasn’t went to well.
Our #1 corner has been benched/or injured past 4 weeks and our #2 corner is just plain bad and thinks he should get shutdown corner $.

lmao..
Green Bay (8-5)- Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
Beside Charles Woodson, the Packers are going to have another shutdown corner.
-They just signed Tramon Williams to a huge contract, did you follow that or no ? they have 2 shut down corners already.
Look at that division and the offensive philosophies
Teams in the NFC North need 4 good CBs.
Is Woodson 22 still?
I know he usually plays like it, but nothing wrong with stealing (and it would be a steal) Brandon Harris there.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
and i like deunta williams for the jags, but might be able to steal him in the second..
for the first 3 picks for JAX its gonna be DE/OLB/S not in that order.
I would hope Dallas would take Fairley over Dareus.
The need at DE definitely has to be addressed though.

If I had a nickel for every time the Eagles won the Super Bowl, I would have zero nickels
Philly correction
Dunlap is the backup, Justice the starter, just signed an extension of a couple of years at the beginning of this season. Philly needs interior OL.
Patriots don't need a first round running back...
…not at all. The Patriots running backs are as good as the offensive line in front of them. I like the Wisniewski pick, but I think the Patriots need to grab an OT with the first pick, or, even better, a DE. I think Bailey or Jordan would be the better selections for the Patriots with the first pick. They can grab an OT in the second. The Patriots don’t have a feature back and they’re not looking for one- therefore, they won’t take a player who won’t be an every down player on offense with a top 15 pick.
Would love to get Sherrod for Indy
no Clayborn in the 1st though?
