Current NFL Draft order and quick top 10 mock
Although Carolina is locked into the No. 1 pick, there is plenty of calamity in the 2011 NFL Draft top 10. Three teams have 4-11 records while six teams are at 5-10. Because of that, I'm holding off on a full mock draft until next week when things are a little more settled. For now, check out the current draft order and a quick top 10 mock after the jump.
Of course, everything will be thrown out the window if Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck decides to return to school.
1. Carolina Panthers - 2-13 (.575)
Opponent Sunday: at Atlanta
Mock pick: Andrew Luck | QB | Stanford
2. Denver Broncos - 4-11 (.508)
Opponent Sunday: vs. San Diego
Mock pick: Nick Fairley | DT | Auburn
3. Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11 (.579)
Opponent Sunday: at Baltimore
Mock pick: A.J. Green | WR | Georgia
4. Buffalo Bills - 4-11 (.583)
Opponent Sunday: at New York Jets
Mock pick: Da'Quan Bowers | DE | Clemson
5. Arizona Cardinals - 5-10 (.458)
Opponent Sunday: at San Francisco
Mock pick: Ryan Mallett | QB | Arkansas
6. San Francisco 49ers - 5-10 (.492)
Opponent Sunday: vs. Arizona
Mock pick: Cameron Newton | QB | Auburn
7. Dallas Cowboys - 5-10 (.521)
Opponent Sunday: at Philadelphia
Mock pick: Patrick Peterson | CB | LSU
8. Houston Texans - 5-10 (.525)
Opponent Sunday: vs. Jacksonville
Mock pick: Prince Amukamara | CB | Nebraska
9. Detroit Lions - 5-10 (.550)
Opponent Sunday: vs. Minnesota
Mock pick: Robert Quinn | DE | North Carolina
10. Cleveland Browns - 5-10 (.575)
Opponent Sunday: vs. Pittsburgh
Mock pick: Julio Jones | WR | Alabama
The first game that sticks out is Arizona at San Francisco. The loser will automatically get a higher pick. There are also four teams at 6-9 (Seattle, Tennessee, Washington and Minnesota). So if you don't think Week 17 of the NFL season is mostly inconsequential for bad teams, think again.
Here's the rest of the current draft order:
11. Seattle Seahawks - 6-9 (.488)
12. Tennessee Titans - 6-9 (.504)
13. Washington Redskins - 6-9 (.513)
14. Minnesota Vikings - 6-9 (.513)
15. New England Patriots (from Oakland) - 7-8 (.471)
16. Miami Dolphins - 7-8 (.538)
17. Jacksonville Jaguars - 8-7 (.450)
18. San Diego Chargers - 8-7 (.458)
19. New York Giants - 9-6 (.454)
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 9-6 (.479)
21. St. Louis Rams - 7-8 (.442)
22. Indianapolis Colts - 9-6 (.475)
23. Green Bay Packers - 9-6 (.521)
24. Kansas City Chiefs - 10-5 (.408)
25. Philadelphia Eagles - 10-5 (.483)
26. New York Jets - 10-5 (.496)
27. New Orleans Saints - 11-4 (.463)
28. Chicago Bears - 11-4 (.467)
29. Baltimore Ravens - 11-4 (.488)
30. Pittsburgh Steelers - 11-4 (.504)
31. Atlanta Falcons - 12-3 (.488)
32. New England Patriots - 13-2 (.504)

will caronlina really take luck considering they took clausen last season?
"the man who created a legend; the legend who resurrected a franchise."
I don't think they can afford not to take the franchise QB
Clausen really has not shown anything this year, and I’m not really sure who would offer a huge players+picks deal for #1 overall
Cassel out, Andrew Luck in!

Yes
Luck is probably one of the best NFL ready QB’s coming out of college since 2004. Unless a team unloads a ton of picks to move up to #1 and draft him Luck will be a Panther.
Part of me thinks he is the best NFL ready QB since Peyton Manning. Watching Luck this year felt like you were already seeing an NFL QB. It is amazing he is only three years removed from high school.

Yes
I am a Clausen fan. I think he has a ton of potential…. but Luck is about as close to a can’t miss franchise QB prospect that has come along in a very long time. I think you have to take him and then trade Clausen. Clausen would still probably bring you a 2nd – 3rd round pick which isn’t too bad.

4th is around where I believe they would get if they shopped him
However he has a decent contract so it really wouldn’t be too bad to keep him there and develop him behind the scenes to see what he can do.

If Detroit gets Quinn or Bowers
that line will be scary. If Stafford can stay healthy one year that team has a shot to make the playoffs and do some damage.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
How is Dallas higher than Houston
when they beat Houston
and the clouds opened up and God said "I Hate you Texans Fans."
If they have the same record,
whichever team has the easier strenght of schedule gets the higher pick
Actually it makes a lot of sense
What if the Cowboys beat the Texans, but the Texans beat the Lions, and the Lions beat the Cowboys….how would you set up that order??
Also, what if there were 6 teams at 5-11 at the end of the year, and out of those teams only two had played each other, one teams SOS was last out of the 6, and the others was 1st, and the team who had the highest or last SOS lost to the team with the lowest or 1st, then the the team with the highest SOS would jump not only the team with the lowest, but all the other teams that never had an opportunity to play the team that just jumped them. Make sense??? Probably not because I’m having troubles making sense out of what I just wrote, but it makes sense in my head….so yeah

where only 2 of them played each other.
but i get your point.

Da'Quan Bowers
I would love this pick. I think the Bills should address the defensive front in the top 10 here, and I think Bowers is the best prospect available here (even ahead of Fairley, IMO).
As much as the Brownies need a #1 WR, I'm looking at Patty Peterson at #7 and hoping we have a chance at getting him.
Would lock up a truly elite secondary for years to come.

I don’t see him falling that far. Peterson is a rare talent.

I agree.
I’m just hoping we lose on Sunday and the Lions, Texans, Cowboys, 49ers/Cardinals, Bills, and Bengals win.
This would give us a solid chance at Peterson/Quinn/AJ Green.

I'm surprised
there isn’t more love for Amukamara. He’s right at Peterson’s level for me.

Me too.
Although I’m biased. But then again, I did watch every one of his games the last 2 years.

Bubba Starling to say "Screw baseball" and head to Lincoln to take Taylor Martinez's job.
Maybe I saw him at the wrong time.
He looked terrible against Okie State albeit against Justin Blackmon and looked fairly bad against Oklahoma.

The Okie ST. game was the worst game I've seen him play.
Wheeden was underthrowing Blackmon all day, and Blackmon just came back to the ball and made some huge plays. He played better in the 2nd half, although he did get burned nig in the 1st. I don’t remember how he did against OU (I’ve washed that game out of my memory).
Teams were scared of Prince all year, and rarely threw his way. But it seemed like every time a ball was thrown his way he’d step in front of the guy and knock it down. He was near the top of the list for PBUs this season, despite not being targeted very much like I said.
I’m no draft expert and I don’t know how he stacks up athletically with NFL athletes, but I do know he is very, very good.

Buffalo taking a defensive player is en vogue now
But it’s not the right choice. Playoff teams have franchise QB’s. Buffalo doesn’t. The Bills are picking this high thanks to their 0-8 start, and that can’t be expected next year. They’ve got to make their play for a QB this year.
Option 1 needs to be trade up for Luck, if he declares.
Option 2 is draft Gabbert (if he declares) or Locker.
Then sit the drafted QB behind Fitzpatrick for a year or two. Worked wonders for Rivers and Rodgers.
Defensive help can be acquired later in the draft, future drafts, or free agency.

I had a dream the night after the first round. Buffalo traded for Tim Tebow. Josh McDaniels is gone; does the new coach like Tebow as much? It could happen.
Since I don’t do trades in mocks, I almost went with Mallett there. I don’t think Locker will go that high, unless he dazzles against Nebraska and in the Senior Bowl.

I think Gabbert could go 4th when it's all said and done, as well

i agree with option 1. whatever it costs, the bills need to make an offer to carolina and draft luck. whatever it costs! you get the qb, then players will come.
"the man who created a legend; the legend who resurrected a franchise."
I am sure even a Ricky Williams type deal would be enough to get Luck. Funny how starting Fitzpatrick over Edwards improved your football team but might have cost you a shot at Andrew Luck.

I think Buffalo is more likely to take a QB in the second round than the first.

if they pass on a QB with their first pick, they'd more likely trade up into the 20's to secure one of the remaining QBs.

Why would the Niners pass on Patrick Peterson to get Newton
The niners secondary is horrid.
Kellen Moore is awesome
What wins teams more games, quarterbacks or cornerbacks? Further, a corner could be found later in the draft and a franchise quarterback probably not.

Because the 49ers have NOTHING at QB, and new coaches draft QBs.

Texans Pick?
I know that it’s VERY painfully obvious that we need some DB help, but does that mean we get ANOTHER young defensive back? Shouldn’t that be more of a Free Agency pickup, trying to get a CB that actually has a clue about playing the position?
Besides, where’s the good safety we desperately need? Seems like that’s a more pressing issue for HOU than CB.
Two things in my defense. Look at what Cincinnati has done by drafting corners close to each other in Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall. Or even Kansas City.
The other thing is that Amukamara could be moved to safety in the pros. He’s a strong corner and a good tackler.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
SF lets the Cowboys have Patrick Peterson
just so we can take Cam Newton too early?
it’s like Anthony Davis over Dez Bryant all over again…
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.

okay, now where's this franchise QB you speak of?
you gave us a running QB who throws wobbly passes far too often.

Nick Fairley
I’m really hoping that Denver doesn’t pick up this guy. He’ll give up more yards spearing people then he will get tackling them. I like passion but a quick YouTube search will show you this guy is cheap. Raiders would love him.

Then Again
It was pointed out to me that things like this can be fixed with coaching but passion is something you can’t teach. I’m torn. Maybe this guy will be great for Denver.
