2010 NFL Mock Draft Pre-Combine
2010 NFL Mock Draft Rd. 1
-
Rams: Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma
The Rams need a franchise QB to build their team around. Spagnuola knows this, and Michael Vick is not the answer. Bradford’s arm will be fine. The last few years justify this pick: Flacco, Stanford, Ryan, Sanchez, Freeman, Young… Get my point. -
Lions: Ndamukong Suh (DT/DE) – Nebraska
The Lions are content with their LT so defensive minded Shwartz get’s his next defensive project (previous – hansworth). Detroits future looks bright. -
Bucs: Gerald McCoy (DT/DE) – Oklahoma
The Bucs defensive line is absolutely horrendous. Eric Berry is a possibility but the defensive line is just absolutely horrendous. Ranked dead last against the run in the NFL. -
Redskins: Russel Okung (OT) – Oklahoma State
Shanahan is content with Jason Campbell, and I think Campbell will thrive with his teaching and system. Shanahan likes running the ball. The Redskins line is absolutely horrendous. -
Chiefs: Anthony Davis (OT) – Rutgers
After watching tape Davis has the most upside out of any offensive tackle in the draft. His work ethic and weight are a concern but something Charlie Weiss won’t have a problem dealing with. Chiefs have to protect Cassel’s blindside -
Seahawks: Eric Berry (S) – Tennessee
Could be the best player in the draft, and Carroll must be excited that he fell this far. Seahawks need a safety and get the best defensive back in the draft. -
Browns: Joe Haden (CB) – Florida – 5’11” 190lb
Desperate need of help in the secondary, and need a cover corner. The defense played very well towards the end of the season. -
Raiders: Bruce Campbell (OT) – Maryland
Raiders need desperate help on the line and if Campbell runs the 40 under 5 seconds, Al Davis will drool. -
TRADE: 49ers trade 1st (13) and 3rd (81) round pick to Buffalo.
49ers: Rolondo McClain (LB) – Alabama
49ers get the top LB in the draft to team up with Patrick Willis. McClain is larger and can also play outside, helping the pass rush. Spikes is getting old. Now you have the best LB combo in the NFL -
Jaguars: Tim Tebow (QB) – Florida
Tim Tebow should not be picked this high, but this is purely on the basis that he sells tickets. There is no doubt about it. Whether Jaguars trade down or not is an option. But they have to leave with Tebow. He will take time to develop but has the physical characteristics, and work ethic to do so. -
Broncos: Dez Bryant (WR) – Oklahoma State
Good bye Brandon Marshall, hello Dez Bryant. Need a weapon on offense. -
TRADE - Texans trade 1st (20), 3rd (84), and 7th (204) for Dolphins 1st (12)
Texans: Derrick Morgan (OLB/DE) - Georgia Tech
Texans have to answer only one question. How do we beat Manning and the Colts? Bring the pressure and force turnovers. Derrick Morgan is one of the best DE in the draft and will perfectly compliment Williams and make the defensive line much stronger. -
TRADE - from 49ers
Buffalo: Bryan Bulaga (OT) – Iowa
I think Gailey sticks with Trent Edwards. Edwards has potential. Bulaga is quickly moving up the boards and is a franchise LT. Need to find a LT before we find a QB -
Seahawks: C.J. Spiller (RB) - Clemson
Walter Jones is retiring. Offensive lineman is an option here but they loose out on the top prospects. Seahawks take the best player available and explosive weapon this offense needs desperately. Carrol will use him the same way he used Bush in USC -
Giants: Brian Price (DT) – UCLA
Giants were poor against the run, and brining pressure to the QB. Price will be a perfect fit for Fewel’s Cover 2 defense. -
Titans: Jason Pierre Paul (DE) - South Florida
Loosing Hansworth, and Shwartz was huge. The Titans need to improve their pass rush -
49ers: Trent Williams (OT/RT) – Oklahoma
SF has a big need at RT, and Trent Williams is the perfect for the position -
Steelers: Earl Thomas (S) – Texas
Steelers played poorly against the pass last season, partially due to Troy’s injury. The cornerbacks are getting old and played poorly. Early Thomas will perfectly compliment Troy, and dramatically improve Steelers pass defense. Hampton gets tagged. -
Falcons: Sean Weatherspoon (OLB) – Missouri
Falcons have a big hole at OLB with Peterson at the ripe age of 34. -
Dolphins: Sergio Kindle (OLB/DE) - Texas
The Dolphins are loosing Jason Taylor and Porter. LB core is severely depleted. Moving down gives them more picks to shore up their defense. Nolan will work his magic. -
Bengals: Jermaine Gresham (TE) – Oklahoma
Bengals are in desperate need of another weapon to compliment Ocho. Gresham is the best TE in the draft and wills a huge need. -
Patriots: Brandon Graham (OLB/DE) - Michigan
One of the worst pass rushing teams in the NFL. Need to upgrade the 3-4 rush LB position. They grab Graham whose performance at the Senior Bowl was excellent and made a living in opponents back field. The Patriots could always move up for someone they really want as they have 3 second round picks. -
Packers: Arthur Jones (DT/DE) - Syracuse
The Packers – according to numbers were rated as one of the best defenses in the NFL. In the game against Arizona, it did not matter. They could not apply pressure to Warner, and need to upgrade the 3-4DE position. Arthur Jones is good, very good. -
TRADE - Buffalo trades 2nd (41) and 3rd (72) round picks to Eagles
Buffalo: Dan Williams (NT) - Tennessee
Buffalo gets the best NT in the draft and plug a very important hole in their new 3-4 defensive look. -
Ravens: Damian Williams (WR) – USC
Flacco needs more weapons, simple as that. -
Cardinals: Jimmy Clausen (QB) – Notre Dame
Yes, unless some team moves up I believe Clausen will drop this far. I’m not sold on Matt, nor is the front office. Bring in Clausen to provide competition, or maybe even provide a future franchise QB. -
Cowboys: Mike Iupati (G) – Idaho
Fits perfectly into the Cowboys offensive line philosophy. -
Chargers: Jonathon Dwyer (RB) - Georgia Tech
Chargers get an all purpose RB that replaces LT. Dwyer is a bulky, in between the tackles runner, with explosion. -
Jets: Golden Tate (WR) – Notre Dame
Jets are great on defense. They are great on the offensive line. But they need to get more weapons for their franchise QB. Tate is a great deep threat and talented receiver. -
Vikings: Donovan Warren (CB) – Michigan
Lost Cedric Griffen with an ACL tear. Pat Williams may retire, so Cody could be an option, but CB is more immediate and their pass defense could use an upgrade -
Colts: Maurkice Pouncey (G/C) - Syracuse
Very intelligent lineman who can play guard, center, and right tackle. Eventual successor of Jeff Saturday. Polian made it clear that the offensive line was an issue (Kind of makes me upset pointing fingers). -
Saints: Everson Griffen (DE) - USC
The Saints have the longest list of significant free agents. Most importantly, they need to add pressure on the other side of their defensive line across Will Smith.
TOP TEN RD. 2
-
Rams: Eric Noorwood (DE) - Northwestern
Upgrade their DE/pass rush over Leanord Little. Give Chris long a nice sidekick -
Lions: Jahvid Best (RB) - California
Best will upgrade running game, short passing game, and special teams. -
Bucs: Arrelious Benn (WR) - Illinois
Desperate need of a starting no. 1 wide receiver -
Chiefs: Terrence Cody (NT) - Alabama
Poili gets his next Wilfork. I don't care if he is fat. And his draft stock fell blah blah blah. You saw the BCS championship. You saw Alabama all season. This guy is a disruptive force. Now look at the Chiefs defensive line: Tyson Jackson, Terrence Cody, Glenn Dorsey. WoW. -
Redskins: Charles Brown (OT) - USC
The biggest problem the Redskins had was on their offensive-line. Shanhan continues rebuilding this line and getting ready for their zone blocking scheme. -
Browns: Taylor Mays (S) - USC
Mays falls and browns get additional help in their secondary. -
Raiders: Carlos Dunlap (DE/DT) - Florida
Dunlap should not be take in the first round. Al Davis is peeing his pants because he fell to him in the second round. Still think he is over-rated. -
Seahawks: Jason Fox (OT) - Miami
Walter Jones departure left a giant hole on the offensive line. Jason Fox anchored Miami's left side but then suffered a serious knee injury. He comes back healthy and is a good prospect -
Trade: Pick received from Bills
Eagles: Reshad Jones (S) - Georgia
Eagles need serious help in the secondary. There last two games against the Cowboys were disaster. They could not stop the run, nor could they stop the pass. But they need more help in the corner and safety position. -
Bucs: Jerry Hughes (OLB/DE) - TCU
- Dolphins: Jared Odrick (DT/DE) - Penn State
- Patriots: Ricky Sapp (OLB) - Clemson
More help in bringing pass rush and strengthening their linebackers - Broncos: Cam Thomas (NT) - Tennessee
NT to properly change to the 3-4 defense - Giants: Brand Spikes (LB) - Florida
Continue to work on the defense that played very poorly last season - Patriots: Nate Allen (S) - South Florida
Get some help in the secondary that has been facing issues. - Panthers: Brandon LaFell (WR) - LSU
The Panthers need a receiver to play across Steve Smith as Muhsin gets old. - 49ers: Patrick Robinson (CB) - Florida State
SF needs to get some younger secondary players as Nate Clements gets old. - Chiefs: Rob Gronkowski (TE) - Arizona
Continue to shore up offensive line, but need to find a replacement for the departed Gonzalez and find another weapon for Cassel to throw to. Polian loves his tight ends. - Texans: Anthony Dixon (RB) - Mississippi State
Texans need a bruiser back to match up with Steve Slaten. I think all 245lbs of Dixon should do the job. - Steelers: Joe McKnight (RB) - USC
Willie Parker is gone and McKnight will be a great change of pace back with Mendenhaul. He will also improve special teams and return team. - Patriots: Jordan Shipley (WR) - Texas
Wes Welker is coming back from a knee injury and they lost TEs. Randy Moss situation is uncertain. Shipley is a very sure handed WR - Bengals: Dexter McCluster (WR/KR)
Enhance special teams and provide Palmer with another weapon - Eagles: Toby Gerhart (RB) - Stanford
Westbrooks future is uncertain. But when I watch and think about the Eagles games against the Cowboys, they confuse me. Why is McNabb stepping back 80% of the time and throwing? What happened to their running game? Gerhart will compliment McCoy and get that much closer to a superbowl. - Packers: Vladimir Ducasse (G) - UMass
Strengthen an offensive line that surrendered way too many sacks - Ravens: Novorro Bowman (LB) - Penn State
Lewis is getting old, could use some added depth at LB. - Cardinals: Selvish Capers (OT) - West Virginia
Kurt Warner was beaten out of his football career. The line needs work to help protect their new QB, whoever it may be. - Cowboys: Brandon Ghee (CB) - Wake Forest
The Cowboys got destroyed by Brett Favre's air attack. They have to improve at corner. - Chargers: Lamarr Houston (DT/DE) - Texas
Help shore up a defensive line that needs help stopping the run - Jets: Corey Wootton (DT/DE) - Northwestern
Continue to strengthen their already great defense. Always could use rotations at the 3-4 DE position to add pressure. - Vikings: Torrell Troup (DT) - Central Florida
Not sure if Pat Williams is coming back, or retiring - Colts: Jermaine Cunningham (OLB/DE) - Florida
Colts need depth at the DE position and it clearly showed in the superbowl. - Saints: Sam Young (OT) - Notre Dame
They need depth at tackle.

Colts Round 2 Number 31...
Jermaine Gresham is a tight end
by stonewall12345678 on Feb 19, 2010 12:22 PM EST reply actions
What?
Jermaine Gresham is a tight end that he has going #21 overall, however he has Jermaine Cunningham going to the Colts. Two different players.

No
there were no draft questions in school, I barely graduated high school, I can’t remember ever raising my hand.
Sorry I’ll try not to correct anyone again.

I don’t see the Cards drafting a QB in the first round and as a result that makes the RT the blindside protector and changes up your 2nd round pick.
I would love however if the Bills were able to get Bulaga and Dan Williams, talk about getting centerpieces for both O and D
I was born in Buffalo, and NO, it's not a suburb of New York City
Agreed, Cards are not going QB in 1st round.
They’ve already given an indication that OL and LB is biggest priority this off season.
ya but
the eagles would never trade a 1st for a 2nd and a 3rd so that was horrible
by HawaiiEaglesFanatic on Feb 19, 2010 11:04 PM EST up reply actions
I hope for the sake of my sanity that the Cowboys would grab
Morgan Burnett in the second round instead of Brandon Ghee.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
Hmm
I’m not sure who you’re referring to in the second round. Gresham is a TE AND the Colts need help at DE. I like Pouncey, but they shouldn’t take an interior lineman over a tackle. Tackle would address more problems, and Charles Brown was availalable. This sounds like a broken record. That said, I will reiterate, I really like Pouncey and for all the reasons you stated, he’d be a very nice pickup.
Whoever you’re referring to in the second round (and it’s not Gresham because you mocked him in the first) remember the Colts need a LOT of help on the line, and there were some good options left, including Rodger Saffold and Jared Veldheer. Also, the Colts could use a kick returner who’s also a serviceable CB. DE’s a fine choice too, if it’s a guy who fits the scheme. MLB is an option, as TCU’s Daryl Washington was still available.
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
Brown over Pouncey for sure
In the 2nd you mentioned Washington, Saffold and Veldheer, I’ll throw Arenas out there (clearly who you alluded to) along with Morgan Burnett, Matt Tennant and Kyle Calloway

+1 For Calloway.
Instant starter at RT.
I’m starting to sour a bit on Brown in the first because of his run blocking. I’m pretty indifferent between he and Pouncey at this point.

CJ isn't a great run blocker at tackle either
they were worse running left last year than 2008 and much worse than 2007 (when they were 2nd in the league on runs behind left tackle, why can’t we have that Ugoh back?)

If Tarik Glenn were still alive
He’d never stand for this. Seriously. If doesn’t weigh too much to walk, you think we could bring him in and remind some of these guys how to run block?
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
Rookie Ugoh put even Glenn to shame
that’s why I’m so disappointed. Ugoh flat out regressed.

The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL
The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back
The 2009-10 New Jersey Devils: Allergic to second periods
it was a joke
he retired and dropped off the map

Bad draft for the Chiefs.
3 picks and only 1 need adressed :/. If Berry is there the Chiefs should/will take him. Our safeties suck.
we can get a TE in the later rounds thats not much of a need to use are top picks on should have went Oline and like i said befor there is no way the Chiefs will pass on Berry if he is there
~Im a star n the making just ask about me im soon to be da Chiefs 1st round pick~

I've given up on saying it

Calling people idiots will probably not help prove your point.
If the Jags feel a team like the Niners would take him later on in the 1st, and Tebow is their guy, they will take him. Why gamble that he will be around in the 2nd or 3rd round if they want the guy. Plus this is a deep draft and there is plenty of starting talent available in the 2nd-4th rounds.

No, our GM is not like that
He doesn’t reach that high just because he thinks someone else will get a popular player. Its BPA in Jax and Tebow isn’t BAP at the 10/11 spot.

You call someone an idiot because they think the Jags will draft Tebow in the 1st when in all actuality, the poster probably has as much insider knowledge as you do.

Like writer for the Florida Times Union,Michael C. Wright. Here’s a conversation he was having with Jonathan Loesche of Big Cat Country on Twitter.
Michael C. Wright: Visiting the office 2day for the first time in months. Meeting with editor to discuss plans for the NFL Draft/Tebow
Jonathan Loesche: Why, not like the Jags are gonna take him
Michael C. Wright: I know. Nobody in the building likes him. But he’s a local kid.

Disagree on Texans
No way Smithiak (Kubiak & Smith) move up to pick a DE/OLB. They use a 4-3, neither Morgan or Kindle fit the mold. And, for that matter, if Kindle is going to be available at 20 (debatable), Morgan isn’t so clearly better that it’s worth giving up a 3rd. I don’t know if you heard, but the Tejanos happened to pick a pretty good OLB in the 1st last year.
Morgan is a prototypical 4-3 DE
He played DE in college on a 4-3 defense and has the size/speed to play the position in the NFL.
ageed
Morgan would be a very fine pick if you needed or wanted to draft a 4-3 DE

I like the Gerhart pick for the Iggle's
I just don’t see us trading out of the first round when we need a big name player on defense, depending on who has fallen to us.

Draft
Hey guys,
I know my draft is a bit crazy but I based it on my own rankings of each position and a big board i created, so when choosing players i really thought about need in addition to the best player available, but the draft is so fickle we can never be sure.
Thanks for comments, do continue and discuss.
lions
we do need a RB.. but not one like best.. we already have our speed back in brown.. we need more of a bwtwin that takle type of back some one that can take 30 a game if he had to… best cant do that..
also 2nd is a little soon.. by the sounds of things smith will be ready in time so we might not need one at all
also kyle wilson is still on the bored
i cant see him at all… i will beat any thing the lions take him if he is there.. CB is our 2nd bigst need behind DT.. and the FO loved willson at the bowl alll the talked about.. so i just cant see them passing on him
I have yet to see one mock draft that had the NOT taking a WR/TE or CB.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
I wonder why…..
Raven’s are a win now team. Win now teams pick for need.

My thoughts
Houston signed Smith and drafted Barwin to play RDE last year. So although Morgan is good, I don’t see a big move for him.
Bills need lots of help. Trading down makes sense for them, but not trading back up. Not sure SF gives up a pick for such a non-need.
You do seem to favor picking NTs. Mays to Cleveland is a good thought. Last year Philly developed Weaver as a power runner.
Bills
Love the Bills making a move to get 2 first round picks (although, I don’t know if Philly would really give up their first like that). I’d be incredibly happy with this turn out.
Trample the weak, hurdle the dead!
Marshall.
If Marshall is gone, then we’d get some sort of compensation, which you don’t seem to include despite the fact that you incorporated trades. The picks are nice though…

Chiefs are not going to take a TE until very late if at all
It just doesn’t make sense with the young talent they already have. Additionally, TE are not a critical piece in the offense they run, and with the needs and talent on D this draft provides, I just don’t see any TE’s being considered by the Chiefs.
Tebow over Clausen for the Jags?
For some reason I have a feeling that the Jags would never take Tebow over Clausen if he is still on the board. He is the best pure passer in the draft this year, why pass that up? I am still not sold on Bradford’s ability to play under center. I think we have learned our lesson during the years that Shack Harris was the GM…

We already have a back that has ball control issues
we don’t need another one. Nor do we need help on PR and KR. Our current one just set records for most return yards. We’d take Troup.
I getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
