Size of top quarterbacks Bradford and Clausen top expectations
Thanks to Daniel Jeremiah of Move the Sticks, we have some early morning size numbers from Indianapolis.
Some expected Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen to measure in at 6'1. However, he officially stands at 6'2 1/2 and 222 pounds.
The other notable measurement was the weight of Sam Bradford. After weighing only as much as 228 pounds at Oklahoma, Bradford came in at 236 pounds at 6'4. This should quell any concerns about whether or not he can carry weight.
Jeremiah also notes that Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant came in at 6'2, 225 pounds. But that's just part of the intrigue. His hands measured 9 3/4 inches with a 34-inch arm length.
More weigh-in results:
Tim Tebow - 6'2 3/4, 236 pounds
Jevan Snead - 6'3, 219 pounds
Colt McCoy - 6'1 1/8, 216 pounds
Arrelious Benn - 6'1, 219 pounds
Dezmon Briscoe - 6'2, 207 pounds
Demaryius Thomas - 6'3 1/4, 224 pounds
Damien Williams - 6'0 5/8, 197 pounds
Golden Tate - 5'10 1/4, 199 pounds
Jordan Shipley - 5'11 1/4, 193 pounds
Mike Williams - 6'1 1/2, 221 pounds
C.J. Spiller - 5'10 5/8, 196 pounds
Joe McKnight - 5'11 3/8, 198 pounds
Ryan Matthews - 5'11 5/8, 218 pounds
Jonathan Dwyer - 5'11 1/4, 229 pounds
Toby Gerhart - 6'0, 231 pounds
LeGarrette Blount - 6'0 1/2, 241 pounds
Jahvid Best - 5'10 1/8, 199 pounds

1 inch. So? Does that really change your opinion on him?

Nope
It just means he has a better chance of falling to Carolina at #47.

i think he went and lost weight because hes trying to put in a good 40, then hell build it back later
Isn't that just odd.
“He needs to be bigger.”
“He needs to be faster.”
So what does he do. He slims down to run, appearing “faster.” Then he bulks back up, to be “bigger.” However, the “faster” becomes null and void when the “bigger” occurs, or vice versa.
So which is he, bigger or faster? UGH! Can’t have both maximized, but we want the listings for both as far as his measureables.
ridiculous.

Exactly
If he had to pick one, I’d say bigger. He needs to develop as a pocket passer who can occasionally move, like Roethlisberger. He’s not going to be Michael Vick, so his running ability isn’t that important for playing QB.
I've never seen the word "only" before 236 lbs when describing a QB
Now if he were 6’6" then I’d see the reason to be surprised. He might have played in the SEC like 250, but 236 sounds about right.

How big was Cody?
I getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
370 Ibs? Still???
If Cody really did weigh 270 Ibs at the Combine (meaning he didn’t lose a single pound since the Senior Bowl) then I don’t see how he gets drafted within the first 50 picks. How do you not try to lose a pound in 2 months of preperation??? I would not be surprised anymore if Cam Thomas was taken over him, or if he slipped to the 3rd round. Unbelievable….

You just wait
Until he runs a 4.22 40 weighing 370. He’s just keeping the weight on to make his 40-time more impressive.
Seriously, though, this is the reason why they have the combine. You set up an arbitrary set of hoops for these guys to jump through and make sure that they can get their crap together enough to do it. If they can’t get their crap together for the combine, they probably won’t be able to get their crap together once they’re drafted.
They haven't weighed DLs yet at Combine.
That is still his Senior Bowl measure.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Brandon Banks sure is tiny. 5’7" 149lbs.
How many NFL players have ever weighed under 150?
I’ld like to see a picture of Banks next to Cody.
By three pounds and minus a half inch! HAR HAR!

No clue. Probably not much bigger than he was at the Senior Bowl. That was 6’0, 245 pounds.

I'm starting to like those GT guys even more!
Dwyer and Thomas are beasts.
I expected Clausen to measure much smaller. He looks tiny on film. That was a huge concern for me.
How did Pike and LeFevour measure in? Height, weight, hand size?

LOL Nice catch JM. I guess it depends on how big your TV screen is.
How does the camera always add ten pounds, yet you look smaller?
Dude?
Why did so many people expect Clausen to measure at 6’1" or less? Because of how small he looks. And since most people like myself have only seen him on TV (I have a 73" by the way) that’s where we get our size impression of him.

He has an inconsistent size
He is a lot bigger on my 50" living room TV than on my 13" bedroom TV. A lot bigger.
Maybe that’s because Notre Dame’s OL is GIGANTIC.
They;re all about 6"5 320lbs

I wonder if Dwyer's weight is "good" weight or "bad" weight
I’ve read that he added a bunch of weight last year, but it left him slower and not much more powerful.
Hey Dan,
Any insight into how stupid rumors about a player’s height or weight are spread? I read that Clausen was pushing 6’1" on NFL Draft Scout, and not only does it blow my mind that NFL people do not already know his height, but I think it’s embarrassing to forward that rumor and especially embarrassing now that it’s proven false.
Guys just watch TV and saw him standing next to, I think, a running back billed as 5’11. Clausen “looked” only an inch or two taller, so it must be true! People don’t realize that a football field is crowned. So when the camera man is literally standing below the players, it’ll have that visual effect.
Mocking the Draft: Your NFL Draft source.
Only outdoor, natural grass surfaces are crowned anymore
So I guess for homegames your explaination might work. But most camera angles are from above the field anyway, so its a moot point. If the camera was below the individual, it would make him look taller and not smaller. Its a common camera trick used to make actors like Tom Cruise taller than they are.

I love this pic. Shows how small the governator is, when compared to two of the most impressive physical specimens in the history of the world.

He was measured the same for the Senior Bowl
He’s probably listed on the team site as a little higher and some places might round up the height to 6’3".

I thought
Demaryius Thomas was a little heavier than that. Still, such intriguing size for a wideout with his speed.

I remember when the whole “Jimmy Clausen is 5’11 OMG!” thing came up I told everybody I’ve seen him in person and he is probably 6’3 and at least 6’2, and I was dismissed because I apparently am a homer and don’t know anything. So to those people (this means you, dar);

Why no love for Shay Hodge out of Ole Miss
He led the SEC in receiving and he has sure hands…he isn’t the fastest receiver but he had Snead as his QB this year and still dominated SEC corners?
He just isn’t really good anything.
