Shake's Mock Draft: Ready for Primetime.
To pass some of the last 24 hours before the Super Bowl I ran a thorough revision. Let me know what you think.
| Round 1 | |||||
| 1 | St Louis | Ndamukong Suh | DT | Nebraksa | The Rams lost 2 QBs to injury last season. You don't take a Franchise QB if you can't protect him. They have their LT of the future in place though, so they take the best player in the draft and wait for Jason Smith to develop |
| 2 | Detroit | Gerald McCoy | DT | Oklahoma | If the Lions weren't interested in Oher in the second half of the 1st round last year, they are going to keep rolling with their current tackles. Likely to Matt Stafford's detriment. |
| 3 | Tampa Bay |
Eric Berry | S | Tennessee | The Bucs abandoned their switch away from the Tampa-2, making Berry's experience under Monte Kiffin a plus on an already great prospect. |
| 4 | Washington | Russell Okung |
OT | Ok State | A broken franchise QB is like not having one, but more expensive. |
| 5 | Kansas City | Rolando McClain |
ILB | Alabama |
The Chiefs OL may have turned the corner late in the year allowing just 8 sacks in their last 6 games after giving up 37 in their first 10. This lets them address a hole on the D and worry about the OL later. |
| 6 | Seattle | Jimmy Clausen |
QB | Notre Dame | Matt Hasselbeck is nearing the end of the line and Senneca Wallace isn't stepping into his shoes. |
| 7 | Cleveland | Joe Haden | CB | Florida | Such horrid pass D is rare with a competent pass rush. The Browns need serious coverage help. |
| 8 | Oakland | Bruce Campbell | OT | Maryland |
Too much sense for a Raiders pick? |
| 9 | Buffalo | Sam Bradford |
QB | Oklahoma | Ryan Fitzpatrick is not a starting QB and Trent Edwards lost his job to him. |
| 10 | Jacksonville | Derrick Morgan | DE | Georgia Tech | Pass rush lacking Jags try that whole top 10 DE thing over again. |
| 11 | Denver | Dez Bryant | WR | Ok. St. | Assuming Marshall is gone, but since Eddie Royal's issues against the press might make him a better fit in the slot, the pick's not totally impossible even if Marshall is still in Denver in April. |
| 12 | Miami | Dan Williams |
NT |
Tennessee |
The Dolphins add a NT to shore up a D that had issues stopping short yardage. |
| 13 | San Fran | C.J. Spiller | RB | Clemson | Niners get a massive boost in the return game (a major asset to a defense center team that'll be playing the field position game) and add a compliment to Frank Gore. |
| 14 | Seattle | Anthony Davis |
OT | Rutgers | Seahawks rebuild the line after getting a Franchise QB. |
| 15 | NY Giants | Brian Price | DT | UCLA | Perfect fit to shoot gaps in a 4-3 |
| 16 | Tennessee | Carlos Dunlap |
DE | Florida | Kyle Vanden Bosch's indefatigable motor netted just 3 sacks last year and the Titans pass defense suffered greatly as a result. |
| 17 | San Fran | Bryan Bulaga |
OT | Iowa | Bulaga was finally back to his dominating form of 2008 in the Orange Bowl and will be well rewarded for it. He'll be more than competent at RT and able to slide to LT in a pinch. |
| 18 | Pittsburgh | Earl Thomas |
S |
Texas | A bit early for a guy that couldn't get under 370 for the start of pre-draft workouts, so the Steelers get a excellent complement to Polamalu |
| 19 | Atlanta | Jerry Hughes | DE | TCU | Falcons pass D needs more pressure from the front 4 to improve. Hughes at DE should be a big help. |
| 20 | Houston | Taylor Mays | S | USC | Bernard Pollard gave the Texans some passable safety play, but there's a reason he was cut and the John Busing/Brian Russell combo at the other safety spot is horrendous. |
| 21 | Cincinnati | Damian Williams |
WR |
USC | The Bengals have the QB and the OL to be a great passing O, but the targets are lacking. |
| 22 | New England | Sergio Kindle | OLB | Texas | The Pats are desperately in need of a pass rush. |
| 23 | Green Bay | Brandon Graham |
OLB | Michigan | While OT is a major need, the Pack could use a edge rusher since Kampman didn't take to the 3-4 as well as hoped, is coming off a season ending injury and will hit free agency. Graham looked phenomenal in the Senior Bowl. |
| 24 | Philadelphia | Everson Griffen |
DE | USC | Eagles love to bring the heat, a top rusher to put opposite Trent Cole would certainly do it. |
| 25 | Baltimore | Jermaine Gresham |
TE | Oklahoma | Todd Heap has morphed into an athletic tackle and "The Franchise Player" isn't an answer at all. |
| 26 | Arizona | Brandon Spikes |
ILB | Florida | Carlos Dansby may walk away which would be a hole that needs to be filled. A high flying pass attack needs a strong pass D to prevent teams from keeping pace or closing deficits. |
| 27 | Dallas | Mike Iupati | G | Idaho | The 'Boys need OL help badly. Iupati might not be a pro LT, but the only other 1st round OT option remaining, Charles Brown, is far too light for Dallas' taste. |
| 28 | San Diego | Jonathan Dwyer | RB | Georgia Tech | LDT basically told the Chargers to shove it, so they'll need a bigger back to complement the dangerous, but severely undersized Sproles. |
| 29 | NY Jets | Jared Odrick |
DE | Penn State |
Odrick fills one of the Jets Ds few gaps |
| 30 | Minnesota | Kyle Wilson |
CB | Boise State |
Riser from the senior bowl fills one of the Vikings big needs |
| 31 | New Orleans | Sean Weatherspoon |
OLB | Missouri | Both Saints OLBs are over 30, Weatherspoon should add some more attacking speed to that D. |
| 32 | Indianapolis | Charles Brown | OT | USC | The Colts have given up just 10 sacks, but that's a near miracle given the flaws Charlie Johnson and Ryan Diem have in pass protection. Brown will let them move CJ or Diem inside, making avoiding the rush easier on Peyton and improving the terrible run blocking. |
| Round 2 | |||||
| 33 | St Louis | Jason Pierre-Paul | DE | So. Florida | The Rams DL will look like Spagnolo's Giants with Long, Suh, Carriker and Pierre-Paul |
| 34 | Detroit | Jon Asamoah |
OG | Illinois | The Lions add some OL to protect their big investment and keep their offense moving. |
| 35 | Tampa Bay | Arthur Jones | DT | Syracuse | After missing out on Suh/McCoy the Bucs get a quality DT in the 2nd |
| 36 | Kansas City | Terrence Cody | NT | Alabama | Cody will make some 3-4 very happy on 1st and 2nd down each Sunday, and very frustrated the vast majority of the time. |
| 37 | Washington | Colt McCoy |
QB | Texas | The new Redskins regime adds their QB of the future |
| 38 | Cleveland | Ricky Sapp |
OLB | Clemson |
The pass rush wasn't bad, but has plenty of room from improvement. |
| 39 | Oakland | Vladimir Ducasse | OL | Massachusetts | A great prospect, but clearly a project. |
| 40 | Seattle | Greg Hardy |
DE | Mississippi | Seahawks snag a very talented DE who will be a massive boost to a sub-par pass rush if he's healthy and motivated. |
| 41 | Buffalo | Trent Williams |
OT | Oklahoma | Another piece for the Bills young developing OL |
| 42 | Tampa Bay | Navarro Bowman | OLB | Penn State |
Even if Ruud stays the Bucs could use some more LB talent. |
| 43 | Miami | Willie Young |
OLB | NC State |
Young edge rusher since Porter and Taylor are getting on in years. |
| 44 | New England | Ryan Mathews |
RB | Fresno State |
The Pats upgrade from the RB hodgepodge of recent history. |
| 45 | Denver | Maurkice Pouncey | C/G | Florida | Denver's running game was generally strong, but repeatedly failed in short yardage. Shoring up the middle should fix that. |
| 46 | NY Giants | Morgan Burnett | S | Georgia Tech | The Giants don't have much back there at safety. |
| 47 | New England | Tyson Alualu | DT | Cal | The Pats add another piece to the ailing front 7 |
| 48 | Carolina | Golden Tate |
WR | Notre Dame | The Panthers passing O needs a target across from Steve Smith |
| 49 | San Francisco | Chad Jones |
S | LSU |
LB sized SS to bring the pain in the secondary |
| 50 | Kansas City | Mike Johnson |
G | Alabama | Chiefs shore up the OL. |
| 51 | Houston | Brandon LaFell |
WR | LSU |
A great compliment to Andre Johnson, so the Texans can keep lighting it up on O. |
| 52 | Pittsburgh | Jake Fox |
OT | Miami | While much of the Steelers sacks come from Big Ben's style, there's more they could do to protect him. |
| 53 | New England | Eric Norwood |
LB | South Carolina |
Versatile pass rushing LB to add to the Pats aging front 7 |
| 54 | Cincinnati | Rob Gronkowski |
TE | Arizona | With a top TE and WR added to the O the Bengals should get their passing game back off the ground. |
| 55 | Philadelphia | Brandon Ghee |
CB | Wake Forest | An explosive O without a strong pass D plays shootouts every week. |
| 56 | Green Bay | Ciron Black | OT | LSU | The Packers can't put off tackle help much longer. |
| 57 | Baltimore | Devin McCourty |
CB | Rutgers | The CB spots are the weakest point of a very good Ravens D. |
| 58 | NY Jets | Donovan Warren |
CB | Michigan |
Revis is great, but the CBs opposite him can be exploited by the Pierre Garçons and Austin Collies of the world. |
| 59 | Arizona | Jason Worlids |
DE/OLB | Virginia Tech |
An explosive offense needs to be complimented with a pass rush on D to prevent weekly shootouts. |
| 60 | Dallas | Arrelious Benn |
WR | Illinois |
Roy Williams still isn't working out. If he doesn't turn it around Benn can be the big target out wide. |
| 61 | Minnesota | George Selvie |
DE | So. Florida |
Vikings add an edge rusher to insure the heat stays on, even in Ray Edwards departs. |
| 62 | San Diego | Corey Wootten |
DE | Norwestern | The Chargers reinforce a DL that struggled against the run without Jamal Williams |
| 63 | New Orleans | D'Anthony Smith |
DT | Lousiana Tech | Run D was the teams weakest phase. |
| 64 | Indianapolis | Daryl Washington | MLB | TCU | Gary Brackett will turn 30 and hit free agency this offseason. The Colts will need an athletic cover MLB to replace him sooner rather than later. |
| Round 3 | |||||
| 65 | St. Louis | T.J. Ward | S | Oregon | With the DL beasting, some DB help to collect up all the hurried passes. |
| 66 | Detroit | Jahvid Best |
RB | Cal |
Fantastic value on a compliment to Kevin Smith. |
| 67 | Tampa Bay | Brandon Lang |
DE | Troy |
The Bucs are also in need of another pass rusher, and pickup a rush DE. |
| 68 | Kansas City | Demaryious Thomas |
WR | Georgia Tech |
KC picks up a target for Cassel to compliment Bowe. |
| 69 | Washington | Forfeit | X | X | Pick used in '09 Supplement Draft |
| 70 | Oakland | Lamarr Houston |
DT | Texas |
strengthens up the middle and adds some push against the pass. |
| 71 | Philadelphia | Nate Allen |
S | Buffalo |
With a new edge rusher, CB and S the Eagles pass D should take a massive leap forward |
| 72 | Cleveland | Anthony Dixon |
RB | Miss St. |
Browns add a big pounder of a back to go with the speedy Jerome Harrison. |
| 73 | Buffalo | Torrell Troup | NT | Cent. Florida |
A NT to drop down in the middle of the Bills new 3-4 |
| 74 | Miami | Micah Johnson |
ILB | Kentucky |
Two new LBs and a NT give the Dolphins an even better compliment to their pounding ground camp. |
| 75 | Jacksonville | Tim Tebow | QB | Florida | By the 3rd round, football and finance interests are close enough to justify the pick. |
| 76 | Chicago | Kyle Calloway |
OT | Iowa |
The downgrade in WRs and OL really derailed Cutler, with no picks in the first 2 rounds the Bears can only address one of those problems at a time. |
| 77 | NY Giants | Matt Tennant | C | Boston College |
A team with the Giants stable of RBs, a credible passing threat and a generally good OL shouldn't rank in the 20s in power running and running between the tackles. |
| 78 | Tennessee | Perrish Cox | CB | Alabama | Fills two major needs, CB help and a competent returner. |
| 79 | Carolina | Mike Neal | DT | Purdue | An athletic DT for the Panthers Ron Meeks Tampa-2 |
| 80 | San Francisco | John Jerry | OG | Mississippi | The Niners OL gets a major boost with Bulaga and Jerry incoming |
| 81 | Denver | Patrick Robinson |
CB |
Florida State |
The Champ is on his last legs |
| 82 | Texans | Toby Gerhart |
RB | Stanford | Texans pick up a bigger back to compliment the shifty Slaton |
| 83 | Pittsburgh |
Cam Thomas |
NT | North Carolina |
Hampton might be on the way out, so a senior bowl riser enters for Pitt. |
| 84 | Atlanta | Syd'quan Thompson | CB | Cal | Lost a very good CB last year and suffered for it. |
| 85 | Cincinnati | Darrell Stuckey | S | Kansas | Roy Williams is still in the league? Really? |
| 86 | Oakland | Sean Lee |
MLB | Penn State |
Lee gives the Raiders a great 3 LB lineup. |
| 87 | Green Bay | Akwasi Owusu-Ansah | CB | Indiana (PA) | Big CB for the Pack's physical style |
| 88 | Philadelphia | A.J. Edds | OLB | Iowa |
Edds was a poor mans' Chad Greenway in college, that's enough for a top 90 pick. |
| 89 | Cleveland | Tony Pike | QB | Cincinnati | Quinn deserves a shot with some real weapons, but plan B should be in mind (and no a 15th shot for Anderson is not a plan B) |
| 90 | Baltimore | Mardy Gilyard |
WR | Cincinnati | Derrick Mason can't go on forever, and they don't really have a great #2 WR option either. |
| 91 | Arizona | Jerome Murphy |
CB | So. Florida |
talented DBs are great to have when your O is forcing opponents to go pass heavy |
| 92 | Dallas | Sam Young | OT | Notre Dame | With a stud G and a RT prospect Romo might not be running for his life all season. |
| 93 | Minnesota | Dan LeFevour | QB | Cent Michigan | Who is the QB in 2 years? A 42 year old Favre? Tavaris? The Rosenchoppa? |
| 94 | San Diego | Jared Veldheer | OT | Hillsdale | That high flying O comes to a crashing halt without great protection |
| 95 | New Orleans | Zane Beadles | OT/G | Utah | (see previous pick's comments) |
| 96 | Indianapolis | Javier Arenas |
CB | Alabama | Can contribute in the nickel/dime, but his real value would be upgrading the Colts terrible return game |

Broncos.
I think I would give that haul very high marks if it happened in real life. Personally, I love Dez Bryant as a prospect, would be shocked to get the best C and likely second best interior lineman in the 2nd round and Patrick Robinson in the third feels like incredible potential value. Honestly, if you want me to pick a nit, I’d be interested in the two guys you have following our selection at #81 (Gerhart and especially Cam Thomas) instead of Robinson…

nooooo not that
I have the #3 on down CBs falling too far already.

He never lived up to expectations and has big character concerns.

It's hard to live up to expectations when people are expecting you to become to next Reggie Bush.
As for character concerns, I don’t think NFL scouts are too concerned that a kid drove a Range Rover.

I see no way he doesn't...
RB is not a value of great need and there are at least half a dozen backs better than McKnight in this year’s class.

Name
Six backs better than McKnight.
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
Spiller, Dwyer, Best, Matthews.
I’d take Anthony Dixon and Toby Gerhart over him too.
The guy has every bit the potential of the speed guys…but he fumbles more then all of them combined.
Rectum? Damn near killed em!
Aight
My rankings go as:
Spiller
Dwyer
Best
Dixon
McKnight
Matthews
I don’t think Gerhart is going to do anything in the NFL
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
Fumbles are easily fixed. You guys are buggin.
Joe McKnight has the size, speed, agility, vision, and body to be an every down back, and a damn good one.

why would the lions pick OG Jon Asamoah with OG Mike Johnson still on bored??
lions will not go best.. we have a speed back in brown.. try harder
a 6th round pick with under 30 carries? forgive me if I'm not sold on the guy.
point taken on the guards though.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
I like Asamoah better...
too bad about the injury at the Senior Bowl. He’s quite a bit more versitile than Johnson. Johnson is more of a in-line blocker. Really depends on the team philosphy, but overall i’d go Asamoah. I really don’t see Best falling that far. May not be the biggest area of need, but would be a solid value pick that late.
by invisibulman on Feb 7, 2010 11:58 AM EST up reply actions
Best is great value for the Lions in the third.
I am a little worried about his concussion issues.
I am not sold on either Asamoah or Johnson at #34. Pouncey is a much better value pick. He can play Guard and Center and he is bigger. Although this is [a little] too early for him too. IMO.
At #34 LaFell WR or Nate Allen S or even Ducasse OL would be better picks for Detroit.
I like it from a Seahawks perspective.
I’m not wild about Anthony Davis, but I can’t complain with Clausen, a LT, and Greg Hardy.
I’m not sure Tate will fall that far either.
Vikes fan: I’d have to give this a seal of approval. Although with guys like Lamarr Houston and D’Antony Smith still on the board in the 2nd I’d pick nits and take him over Selvie. Edwards is a RFA and I think he’ll stay, making tackle a more pressing need. Kyle Wilson, Lamarr Houston, Dan LeFevour….I’d be happy.
Also, I need to fix something: “Who is the QB in 2 years next year?” There.
I figured Favre doesn't want to go out like that
and LeFevour isn’t going to be ready to go his rookie year.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Agree Favre will be back
he had too much fun, likes his teamates and walking away because of one bad game will be difficult when he knows his arm is healed.
Finally a smart mocker
KC Fan – Im glad you realized that the oline drastically improved over the last half of the season. Brandon Albert shut down edge rushers, and the online only gave up 8 sacks in the last 6 games. A LT is not needed at the 5th pick, and pioli DOES NOT select OL in the first rd. The pick will be McClain, or trade back and grab Graham.
Cowboys
I would be pleased with that draft if that is how it shakes out. I would hope that Morgan Burnett falls to the Cowboys in the second.
PLease god not Sam Young
He is terrible. He plays with poor leverage, absolutely no power and has slow feet. OT is not nearly as big a need as S. Myron Rolle is the selection in the 3rd.
I like the mock from a Dolphins perspective ...
but I think FA will shake up this board big time. I can see the Dolphins going after a playmaker like Spiller or a WR in the 2nd round if they address the NT and WR position in FA (I also feel Williams is a reach at 12) But if not I would def still be very please with these results
i think we could very well go after a FA WR,

2009 NY Phin PhansFantasy League Champion
2009 Best Regular Season Record in NYPPL.
you really think Iupita will drop to the Cowboys?
I’ve seen some mocks with him going to Pitt or Hou
Both of those teams have bigger needs
There is a very good chance Iupati falls.
Funny...
How Brown conveniently falls to us at 32 in this mock. You think that’ll happen? I hope so, but dude’s got top 20 potential if he comes to the combine close to 300. I know you have a theory on Daryl Washington in the 2nd, but I’m still skeptical the Colts will draft a line backer that early. Joe Pawelek in the 5th seems more their style (though don’t get me wrong, Washington is a perfect fit).
I love the Arenas pick; it kills two birds with one stone. The Colts need CB depth and a dynamic returner, and he’s the second or third best punt returner in this draft. He strangely doesn’t have a very fast timed speed; shades of Jerraud Powers. But I always see him going way before you have him. For most of the year people considered him a fringe second rounder and you have him at the last pick in the third.
So I could see the Colts trading down if they don’t land Brown in the first. Since they don’t have a bunch of needs they could try to develop a guy like Ducasse or Selvish Capers (who’s like a bigger, rawer version of Brown). Then if it were me, right now, I’d go ahead and take Arenas at the end of the second and take a pass rusher in the 3rd (by the time the draft rolls around people will be all about Austen Lane in the 3rd…he could tower over the rest of our undersized defenders like a Pop Warner coach does over his players).
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
Yeah...
This draft worked out great for the Colts. Have to wonder if shakes’s hopeful homerism is showing a bit. : ) The Colts are really in a bind if all the top OTs are gone by the 32nd pick. Trading down would look really good at that point, but you always need a dance partner for that to work. If all else failed, I wouldn’t mind seeing Maurkice Pouncey taken at that spot. Obviously, not ideal, but the Colts like versatile interior linemen. Pouncey would likely replace Devan at gaurd and would be heir apparent to Saturday when he retires (not sold on Jamie Richard.)
Under that scenario, the Second round pick would then be used on Kyle Calloway to replace Ryan Diem.

From what I see, Matt Tennant can play OG
so that’s good.
They probably need a RT sooner then a OG, but Tennant’s too good to pass up.
If you did 5 rounds, hopefully its Angerer in round 4 and RT in round 5.
I like Morgan Burnett (and Chad Jones) but I’m on the Nate Allen bandwagon right now. Until the combine/pro days for these other 2 at least.
Rectum? Damn near killed em!
I'd take both to be honest...
who knows how long Brackett’s got in the tank, he could be like Pierce…give us 2-3 good years then take a dump.
Tho, I’m worried that Jon Goff might be getting oversold. I think he needs a chance. He was all over the field at Vandy during his time there, maybe he’s the answer and not any of these others?
…I just can’t pass up Angerer tho. He’s angrier then angry.
Rectum? Damn near killed em!
Chiefs - Close, but not quite
Pioli likes flexibility in players, so I have a hard time believing they will take a bet on T Cody. He has bust written all over him from my perspective. A few adjustments to an otherwise good draft:
1) McClain – completely agree, though hopefully trade down and still end up with him
2a) Pouncey – the quality of Pouncey over Cody at an equally vital position makes for a understandable slight reach here, understanding they probably couldn’t get him with 2b
2b) Johnson – completely fine with this pick unless a high quality S falls
3) Shipley – depending on his projections, I think Pioli/Haley/Weis are going to grab their version of Welker to provide a playmaking outlet for Cassel that can step in and be productive from Day 1. If he’s projected to fall to the 4th, then grabbing a high impact OLB would be my pick here in the 3rd.
mgrex03 over at Stampede Blue taught me some HTML to make pretty tables
though if you don’t have writer privileges anywhere putting a table into a post would take way more work on the HTML.

Iupati would probably replace Kosier at guard I should think
That was Larry Allen’s spot. It would be nice to have a pro-bowler there again.
2009 BTB Fantasy Champ... Deal with it
I like this one a lot!
Nice job. I like the Viking picks but do agree with jianfu above. I think they will keep Ray Edwards and that need is less than picking up Lamar Houston.
Also, yes the Raiders pick makes too much sense. No way they do that. They are always looking for that bang pick. This doesn’t fit that mold.
I'm really getting sick of this Tebow thing.
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
Even if T J Ward was a 3rd round prospect
The Rams should probably go a different direction for that pick, like offense. It would be hard to pass on Best if he was still available at the top of the third.
The first 2 picks are right in line with what I’d do. I think Best won’t make it that far so I wouldn’t be disappointed in defense if we got Arenas or Perrish Cox.
Also Syd’quan Thompson is from Cal
fixed Syd'quan
forgot to change the school there while bumping CBs down the board.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Buffalo
Nope, Buffalo won’t use a first rounder on a QB. A left tackle is a higher need as a NT (as the Bills transition to a 3-4) and linebacking help. The new regime in Buffalo will bring in a QB from another team and build from there.
left tackle
Was a need last year. And they picked two guys to play guard. The new regime needs to have one draft before we can start predicting them with any certainty.
If the old GM was still there, I think you’d have to be mocking a punter in the 1st round.
Cards Draft
This is one of the better and more realistic drafts for the Cards to date. LB’s and defense is our top priority.
seconded
Every time I see a mock draft with the Cards taking a TE or QB in the first 2 rounds really makes me question whether that person even saw the Cards playoff games much less the season.
I don’t think TE in round 2 is out of question, If they view Gronkowski/Hernandez as good value there. ILB doesn’t have many guys valued at a round 2 selection. There could be a corner in there or tackle but I wouldn’t rule out a TE.
McShay, Todd McShay you hear me boy? It's me TJ and I'm coming for your damn job boy! Oh be scared, be very scared McShay.
Hughes to Atlanta
They have Abraham at right end and are developing Sidbury behind him. I think they would be looking for a larger guy to play left end, and that is not Hughes. Griffen would be a better fit there.
I honestly have trouble seeing Anthony Davis being the Seahawks' selection at #14. The logic does not fit.
First off, his athleticism is not his forte. His size is. He is more mauler than he is athlete. He did not play in a zone blocking system.
Davis is 330 lbs or so. Alex Gibbs has a reputation for playing O-linemen who are less than 315 lbs, and he monitors their weight throughout the season. He wants athletic linemen with excellent feet. That is not the profile that Davis fits. Gibbs runs the ZBS, a system of blocking that Rutgers does not utilize.
Of course, even if Davis’ athletic measurables surprise people at the combine and that it caught Alex Gibbs’ attention, it would leave the idea open that Davis could I have a hard time seeing him losing weight before or after the combine, as it would affect his draft stock. Again, Davis could shed that weight for training camp and the regular season. However, given his frame, and the type of blocking that he’s used to, I’m not so sure that would be advisable for him. He came to Rutgers at 368 lbs, and had to shed 40 lbs. to play.
The two linemen that seems to fit the Alex Gibbs profile athletically are Charles Brown and Mike Iupati, though Iupati is also 330 lbs. and as I have suggested, the weight can be shed before training camp, and his frame can withstand losing 15 lbs.
Talents that I covet:
Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Sam Bradford, Mike Iupati, Golden Tate, Earl Thomas, and Freddie Barnes
No way
Brown will be gone because everyone thinks he will be a Cowboy. ;)
Brown won't be a Cowboy...
He’s too small. Colts fans are all praying that he falls to 31. No way he goes any farther than that.
He is perfect for a zone blocking
Quick and athletic. I hope Seattle trades down out of 6 or 14 to pick up a 3rd rounder and grabs him in the 20s
Don't think there's any way the Packers take an OLB in the first round.
Secondary and OT are huge needs and the pass rush didn’t look bad with Clay Matthews and Brad Jones off the edge. It could get better in Raji’s second year too.
Selgy
One, I don't think there is anyway the Jets waste a first on a 3-4 DE.
Unless they think he is Haloti Ngata., 3-4 DE’s just don’t do much other then take up space. They won’t pick Odrick. I think they would take Kyle wilson in that situation, and even if they didn’t, and wen’t Odrick, if Perrish Cox were still there in the 2nd I am fairly certain they go Cox over Warren. I think the way you have things lined up the Jets pick Kyle Wilson and Demaryus Thomas.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

Redskins
I like the Okung pick in the 1st a lot, but not so sure about Colt McCoy in the 2nd. Is he your pick because you think that highly of him, or do you think that Daniel Snyder will be pushing for him?? I am not sure if he is #1 QB type player or if he will turn out to be #2 QB type player for his career.I guess his arm strength would be the biggest downside IMO but who knows….
Sadly, you might have to consider Dan Snyder’s insanity while mocking for the Skins. Kind of like Davis for the Raiders.

I like the O-Line pick in the 2nd, but the Bills probably have enough RT candidates that it’s pretty imperative they get a LEFT tackle more than a right.

Bengals
why does everybody have Damien Williams going to the Bengals? Is he better than Demarius Thomas? not in my rankings. And im not the only one who thinks this. Please add some creativity in your mocks
www.fantasydaddy.com
do you want a WR who's route running skill is highly developed (Williams)?
or do you want a raw WR prospect who while probably being the best WR athlete aside from Dez Bryant, only knows how to run straight down the field and jump?
I thought Carson Palmer could use a WR who could play right away, not one who probably should sit for a year and learn.

here we go with creativity
Mocks are supposed to be what WE think will happen. Sorry if it’s not “creative” enough for you. Please come up with your own mock so we can see how creative you can be.
I like Demaryius Thomas alot, but Damien Williams is will produce faster than Thomas. Thomas knows one route……the go route. Williams is arguably the best route runner in this draft.
Please come out with a mock to show all of us that are doing it wrong how to be creative.
McShay, Todd McShay you hear me boy? It's me TJ and I'm coming for your damn job boy! Oh be scared, be very scared McShay.
creativity
what i mean is, rank a player differently than other people. Who are your sleepers? I bet real GMs think the same thing. Thats why players go higher than we expect every year. I would like to see some mocks that predict somebody who falls or a reach. Those are fun because we will all be wrong in the end anywyas

rank a player differently than other people
So basically don’t go off your own opinion?
Here is my new and improved and “creative” top 5
1. Rams G Mike Iupati Idaho
He’s the real deal.
2. Lions QB Juice Williams Illinois
Stafford is getting killed out there, surely it’s not the offensive lines fault. Williams can scramble so this is a no brainer.
3. Bucs TE/T/? Ali Villanueva Army
He can play a little TE and a little T, hell the dude is 6’10 that should get him drafted.
4. Redskins RB Shawnbrey McNeal SMU
He catches the ball very good out of the backfield, Shanahan will like that.
5. Chiefs ATH Trindon Holliday LSU
He can catch, run, return, Pioli would be stupid to pass this up.
Creative enough? God forbid people have the same rankings, great minds can’t think alike.
McShay, Todd McShay you hear me boy? It's me TJ and I'm coming for your damn job boy! Oh be scared, be very scared McShay.
love it
You just introduced me to 2 new players, thats what I like to see.
Ali Vilanueva is interesting, Jason Peters was a TE comming out of arkansas

IF
someone were to post a 1st round mock like that it wouldn’t be pretty here. If that is the kind of stuff you are looking for, you are going to be dissapointed on this site.

ive been on this site a long time, im not dissapointed
Well a first round dosnt have to be crazy, just have your own twist to it

"or do you want a raw WR prospect who while probably being the best WR athlete aside from Dez Bryant, only knows how to run straight down the field and jump?"
thats exactly what we need. A big guy on the outside that can stretch the field. a Rookie WR isnt going to do much anyways. So why not have a guy that excells at doing one particular thing? We need to replace Chris Henry. Andre Caldwell is our guy that can start opposite of chad. Now we need a guy to get deep
www.fantasydaddy.com
fair enough...
but unless Thomas is there in round 2…there’s no need to reach for a one dimensional player is there?
There’s a few players like Carlton Mitchell and that big dude from Mizzou who’s name I can’t remember…that’s be there in the 2nd or probably the 3rd.
Rectum? Damn near killed em!
Maybe....
be interesting to see who sets themselves apart as the 2nd tier of WR from Dez Bryant.
Damian Williams and Golden Tate are the most polished. Brandon Lafell might be the best.
I don’t really see Thomas doing that, he’s too raw. Probably more so then Arrelious Benn (tho Benn’s not all that raw, he had a worse QB then Lafell at LSU…).
Its more so…do you want to wait 2-3 years, cuz he might not be ready to contribute in the 1st year.
Rectum? Damn near killed em!
and for the bengals
we just need a guy that can run 64 deep routes all season (4 per game)
Andre Caldwell is entering his 3rd season and should start opposite of Chad

It's funny as a Raiders fan
that pretty much every mock draft referrences how crazy the team’s picks are. The Raiders almost need a range of picks or some kind of qualifying answer that the pick will depend on Davis acquiring some level of sanity.
Woohoo, I get to look forward to another 7-6 season ("at best") in 2010! There's nothing like going to Idaho for a bowl game.
it's tough to pick for them
because they don’t do what you’d expect, but most attempts to get their pick right make the pick look like a joke or the poster look like he’s being a dick.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Well
This: “Bernard Pollard gave the Texans some passable safety play, but there’s a reason he was cut and the John Busing/Brian Russell combo at the other safety spot is horrendous”
isn’t quite right. Although picking up a safety could be a good thing for the Texans, and the Busing/Russell combination IS terrible, the other safety is Eugene Wilson, who spent time this year on the IR, and is passable. The texans probably have bigger holes at DT and cornerback than safety, and just as much depth/starter concerns at Oline as at safety..
And the texans going with WR in the second is only going to happen if Kevin Walter leaves in FA. If not, then there is no way that happens.
