was pretty sure you would like the 1st pick & it could easily fall out that way. Saffold that early seemed like a reach but I didn’t see him still there for you in the 3rd
my god
if it played out that way…that’s beastly
Jerry Reese = Omar Minaya?
by BigBlueIntervention on Mar 13, 2010 11:01 AM EST up reply actions
this is awesome
Are you Jerry Reese? I love these picks for the Giants, even down to picking a KR in the 7th. We fill all of our needs, plus get value. I think even the specific players you chose would work for us.
Although if I really wanted to be picky, I think Saffold would play RT. We have Beatty at LT and he doesn’t seem like the RT type – he needs to get stronger. But we need a RT.
I like Chad Jones over Saffold
I havent heard much about Saffold but Chad Jones out of LSU (i think) would fill a major need
And even better
Zoltan Mesko goes undrafted!!!!!! we could pick him up
and he could fill in at MLB if needed

I agree, I like Chad Jones there too
but don’t say that about Saffold if you don’t know who he is.
He could be BPA at #46 in the draft, so that wouldn’t be a bad pick

Saffold dosent sound impressive
He seems a little weak for RT and a little slow for LT (which will be fillled by beatty anyway). I think Jones sounds like the better player as well as the better fit for us right now. I worry more about phillips knees then the combined knees of Diehl and Mckenzie
colt mccoy?
sorry man but we already have 3 qb’s with our qb of the future. not sure if you read but the eagles put a 2 first round trade cap on kevin kolb. i dont think they plan on having him going anywhere. we have to many other needs to go qb in round 2 such as olb, cb depth, id even say dt.
but then again. it is andy reid. and everything else was spot on
"Never give in, never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
An Eagles fan
had said on here that as funny as it sounded with Vick, McNabb & Kolb that he thought you gys would need a QB because he thought that one or two of those guys would be gone by the beginning of the season & I thought he might be right. That is why I gave you McCoy in the 3rd, but I could easily be way off on that one.
I think it's good reasoning.
The Eagles have no QB signed after 2010.

Colts
Odrick is fine if the board is that bare of guys I really like. Like Ghee in the 2nd a lot.
In the 3rd I’d like Kyle Calloway, I think he’s a guy they can drop right in at RT.
Beadles is good there, Indy needs to add something on the OL, and pretty much any spot helps.
Schofield would be a DE in the Mathis mold, Indy asks too much of their LBs in coverage to expect someone who didn’t play coverage regularly in college to learn fast and well enough for them. The pick is fine, but I like C.J. Wilson better since he fills the Raheem Brock role so will contribute right now. Schofield wouldn’t play unless Freeney/Mathis were hurt, even if he was healthy, while Wilson would contribute taking run downs and maybe playing some 3-tech DT in passing situations.
Like Olsen that late, but Tiffin would be hard to pass up. Vinatieri is old, expensive and isn’t staying healthy. Tiffin’s accurate with a strong leg.

Vikings comments
The Vikings can take the BPA, but I don’t think Campbell is the BPA there. Weatherspoon, Mays, and Gresham would all fit the Vikings well and they are proven football players, while Campbell is not.
The rest of the picks were not that great. Two defensive tackles? I guess, but those picks were just not inspiring.
Lions
I like the picks except for the 2nd rd. I think Jahvid Best would be a better pick there. I didn’t see his name anywhere in there
I can't think of a good sig to put here
The worst Buc
Mock i’ve seen. I’d pass on Benn because we have one already on the roster and his name is Michael ( cant catch ) Clayton. Taking a CB in the 4th when you’ve already done that in the 3rd and when LB is a need. Taking a FS when there is no need for it.
I disagree
You make no sense when you say that you don’t need a WR when you already have one “Michael ( can’t catch ) Clayton”, doesn’t the ( can’t catch ) part of your statement mean that you do need a WR & didn’t you just lose Antonio Bryant ?? I like Ronde Barber but isn’t the guy about ready for social security, & most teams have more than one CB. Busting on me for taking a FS in the 7th is BS, that is when you are drafting BPA .
Jaguars
Don’t see them taking 2, if any, WRs especially in the later rounds.
I know i'm being picky here
but you left off quite a few players including Dexter McCluster and you have Jevan Snead drafted twice.
Mclusters in the 4th
and sneads only once
both great picks for that team
and also
if the 9ers draft both Haden and Spiller (which would be amazing value) Haden would be 13 and Spiller at 17 as the secondary would be their greater need.
Haden in the top CB talent in the draft
that 40 time is being blown way out of proportion..it’s not even a representation of his actual speed. I haven’t seen a mock with Haden lower than 15. If he was available at 15 I’d expect the Giants to draft him even without the need for a corner.
The Giants will not draft Haden with McClain on the board
& that 40 time is what he ran, regardless, & it will affect his draft stock.
Jags
The first and third round were ideal.
I was going to say we should’ve taken Walton in the 4th round because the Broncos took him 7 picks later, but that’s ok because we just stole him away from them in the 6th.
As for the WR picks, that’s very doubtful. Alterraun Verner, Brandon Lang and J.D. Walton would make more sense in the 4th round spot instead of Shipley.
Phillip Dillard is a guy the Jags have showed interest in so I think they’d scoop him up if he’s available in the 5th. Kevin Basped, Myron Lewis and Vince Oghobaase would also make sense in that 5th round spot.
If you end up taking J.D. Walton from us in the 6th round, I’d be ok with whoever is the BAP. Looking at the rest of the board I’d go Donovan Warren, Eric Olsen or C.J. Wilson.
I don’t want to sound too much like a stickler. The first and third round picks were perfect for the Jags.
Follow me on Twitter
Fixed the 2nd Walton pick
sorry about the two WRs, that was not intentional but I do like Shipley a lot, I thought he was a great value in the 4th but I shouldn’t have gone with another one in the 5th
Stites said everything...
I loved the 1st and 3rd (though I thought Berry was a strong safety, not free?).

I'm very happy with that draft
the only thing I’d change would be adding a OLB maybe Schofield
I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
I don't see the Patriots taking a WR in the 1st.
That could be spent on a OL or a combo DE/OLB.
The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL
The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back
The 2009-10 New Jersey Devils: Allergic to second periods
what happened
with the raiders 2nd round pick?
i doubt oakland will take tim tebow
theres really no reason to, we have a project QB already
we have bigger meeds than a safety in the 3rd round
u didnt take an OT, that kinda scares me
the rest of the picks are fine
Sorry about the 2nd
I wrote the packers down in your spot, it’s changed now but I am not too sure if CB would be a good fit for your team. I think that Al Davis might draft Tebow with the thought that he could say he drafted him for his athletic abilities & not because he screwed up by taking Russell. Tackle was the 2nd highest need on my list for you, so I have no excuse for not taking one, maybe if I hadn’t messed up your 2nd rd. pick I would have taken one there
thanks
we could take a CB, across from nnamdi, chris johnson sucks
im not to knowledgeable on dan williams, is he good
yea id rather have a OT in the second or third

I don’t like the Browns draft.
No way the Browns pass on Berry. ESPECIALLY for Morgan
Spikes is fine.
Price? Carlton Mitchell would be a much better fit, and so would a CB. like maybe Cox.
Pitta isn’t really a good fit. He can’t block.
Blount is good.
Baspeed wouldn’t be able to play in our defense.
That is too early for Haslam.

Sorry Slim
I don’t understand why you guys are so down on my picks for your team, I have always respected your opinion here on MTD so here is my reasoning
I don’t see how any team will go wrong with Derrick Morgan & Brandon Spikes 1 & 2 in a 3-4 D
I used NFLDraftscout for my projections & they had Taylor Price slightly ahead of Cameron Mitchell at 2nd or 3rd rd.you got him in the 3rd.
Dennis Pitta at 2nd or 3rd rd. you got him in the 4th. & I had not heard that he can’t block
Blount was projected at the 6th rd. you got him in the 5th but I thought he would be a good fit as a power RB
Arthur Moats projected at 5th,you got him in the 6th
Haslam projected at 5-6 you got him in the 7th.
Lets look at the browns because you obviously didn’t follow free agency, or even the past season.
Round 1: Lets see, a team that was top 5 at rushing the passer last year and might have had the worst secondary, passes up the best secondary player for a pass rusher? and you say it is best for their need
Round 2: Okay, the browns get DQwell Jackson back healthy and just got Scott Fujita as a free agent, and they use their second round pick on an ILB?? Have you ever watched a browns game? brandon mcdonald is a TERRIBLE CB and the browns pass up some great CBs in round 2.
Round 3: A team that could use another good young RB like Gerhart or Hardesty, or a young QB to groom like Lefevour passes up all of those to reach a little for a receiver? after reaching for receivers last year??? Highly unlikely and very stupid…remember, mangini isn’t the GM anymore.
Roound 3 (2nd pick): the browns pass up More CBs (like Perrish Cox) and passes up a couple of good DTs for the 3-4 (like Mike Neal) to get another receiver? and this one doesn’t fit the new offensive style either…so you actually think the browns will draft 4 WRs in the first 3 rounds, in 2 years?
Round 4: At this point, there are still a couple good CBs available. Also, the browns could use depth at NT and troup can play NT.
Round 5: finally get their RB but still passing up positions such as CB and Safety.
the browns WILL draft at least one DB before the fifth round. that is obvious to anyone who knows anything about the team.
Browns
I’m working on my own 7-rounder, and have many of the same general thoughts about the Browns as this draft. I’ll probably have Morgan in the 1st (Berry is gone in mine), and the CB need does not get addressed quickly. However, between questions about who to pair with Wright and the release of Pool, I think they will draft at least one DB early. Maybe two. Then again, Holmgren thinks Delhomme is a good QB. Under those assumptions, we could see Zoltan in the 1st.
7 rounders are hard. The Browns signed Fujita, I changed 30 picks on my board. And comp picks are still to come!
Top five in rushing the passer??
You guys had the 32nd ranked D in YPG, you were 31st against the rush & 28th against the pass & 29th in YPR which is yards per run. Your DEs stink, the sacks you are getting are from your LBers Wimbley & Bowens. Derrick Morgan is the beast DE in this draft & would improve your pass defense & your run defense, ( that’s right Einstein, DEs, especially in a 3-4 are supposed to stop the run, not just rush the passer )You also got Brandon Spikes, one of the best ILBs & probably the best run stopping ILB in this draft. I am not going to go into your other snotty comments, if you don’t like my draft then don’t read it. I am not an expert on your team or on the draft & I am not pretending to be. It is something that I find to be very interesting, this is not the real thing, that s in April.
The stats you sited didn't directly address the claim of the pass rush
They were 8th in the league in sacks, but the pass D was still wretched, that’s how bad the coverage is.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
by shake n bake on Mar 14, 2010 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions
I am not disputing their coverage was terrible Shake
My point was that a DE is also a run stopper not just a pass rusher,& they were ranked 31st against the run, only Detroit was worse. Also a lot of those sacks came from their LBers not the DEs which is why I gave them Derrick Morgan. I am not even saying I was right, I have no doubt that he knows his team much better than I do but there is no need for the snotty attitude or comments like “highly unlikely & very stupid”. I came up with the team needs by reading what people had said here on MTD which for the Browns were CB,WR,TE,FS,RT or RG,Power RB DE/OLB ILB & from a site called Football Futures which had their needs as RT,3-4DE ILB,WR,S,& TE put the two together & picked accordingly. They picked up Tony Pashos in FA so I left that off, if my other picks did not fit bross09 needs for his team, I think I will still be able to sleep at night.
The sacks are coming from OLBs because in a 3-4 that is where pressure should come from. There is no way Morgan could be a 2 gap DE in a 3-4. NO WAY at all.
Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

Morgan
I agree, he is not a 3-4 DE. He measured in smaller than projected, so he is even less of a 4-3 LDE prospect now. I was picking him for the Browns as an OLB – really liked the agility he showed at the combine. And given Wimbley’s trade today, my guess looks even better.
Morgan will be a 3-4 OLB
they run the 3-4 and thats why their DE’s dont get any sacks
you got
Dickson going twice in the fourth.

Jets
You did so well on the Giants, but missed on the Jets. Their o-line is the strongest part of the team. Two of their oldest players are the starting 3-4 DEs, and one is a UFA, but the position does not seem to have been addressed (Young is a 4-3 DE and Ivey seems to be more of a NT). Other than DE, top needs are a speed WR, CB, and linebacker depth. And probably a free safety, Pool’s concussions are a concern.
You are probably right
& on my team needs I had 3-4 DE & 3-4 OLB as their two top needs but because their D was so good last year I went O-line in the 1st to eventually replace Faneca who I have read has become one dimensional & is also aging. Eric Norwood will be a very good OLB/DE & would be a very good fit in Rex Ryans D IMO. Willie Young is a 3-4 DE & Walter Thurmond was a highly respected prospect at CB until a knee injury sidelined him in October. Eric Decker is not a speed WR but he is a big target with good hands & he has medium (4.54 ) speed. Ivey is a NT, I thought he would provide depth at the position
Jets
Faneca is not what he once was but he should still have multiple years left, and the rest of the line is so good that they can cover for whoever plays there. Norwood would be a good player for them, and might make sense if they had filled one of their holes in the 1st. Decker and Thurmond are both talented guys that the pros like but many here are not familiar with because their injuries have held them out of recent events. Young was only 251 lbs at the combine., and apparently that is following an effort to gain weight. I can’t find a 3-4 DE that plays serious time that is less than 285 lbs.
So if you had given them Odrick in the 1st (went soon after to Indy), and given them more a more appropriate depth player in the 5th (3-4 DE, ILB, CB, or S, or even G), that would be fine.
He is projected in a 3-4
but not as a DE, as a LB ( which is where I screwed it up ).This is from Draft Scout Rankings
“12/01/09 – 12/01 NFL Draft Scout Riser : Willie Young, DE North Carolina State: Though Young didn’t add to his 2009 total of eight sacks in the 28 – 27 win over North Carolina, it was easy to see why NFL teams using a 3-4 base defensive scheme are intrigued by his potential as a linebacker. A lanky but strong 6-5, 250 lb.s, Youngs length & active hands allow him to beat tackles on an outside pass rush.” I blew right thru the LBer part & missed ( or never even thought about ) his weight.
Pretty good Cowboys draft.
If you changed Selvie to the OG Marshall Newhouse it would be a great draft. I am not that huge a fan of Tate, but since we get Veldeheer in the 2nd it works. I am a little iffy on Wright, but he is climbing a lot of draft boards.
Ravens
Like the picks. Doubt Hernandes will be available late in 5.
Good job
talent vs. need
There are actually not many teams that “need” a TE, although the talent pool is strong. I’m finding it hard to project who will pick them at their projected value spots myself.
Terrible draft for the Chiefs
I was thinking Berry FS, Golden Tate WR, J.D Walton C, Linval Joseph NT, and Micah Johnson ILB
The Dolphins need a FS, not a SS.
